- Passengers onboard a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 at Denver International Airport witnessed a terrifying ordeal on Sunday, April 7th, as the aircraft’s right engine cowling tore off during takeoff and slammed into the wing. The Dallas-based carrier, along with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), are investigating to determine the cause of the incident.

Perfect illustration of how once your good name is compromised, anything can harm it even more, regardless of any justification.
Facts
Yup. And this is why I tell people that far from 'laughing at Boeing', Airbus is deeply concerned about media hyper focus on aviation given their tendency to sensationalize even mundane issues.
Sure! Mainly by those who don't understand anything about the subject!
If maintenance did leave the cowl unlatched, it should have been noticed by one of the pilots on their pre-flight walk around.
I think the last person who did maintenance for that engine might be looking for other employment 😂
United Airlines: Phew! Glad it was not us on the news this time.
Can't blame Boeing for this. But some will.
Strange how many Boeing using airlines have suddenly forgotten how to do maintenance apparently.
Yeah but then everyone blames Boeing for it for some reason
@@Itsparotthe media who don't know aviation and make the situation seem more extreme than it really is
Cheap is cheap.
Gotta make sure those latches are secured!
It's a human error
@@jjiglesiasg It certainly is and I’m sure the investigation will confirm that
Why don't have pilots dashcams onboard monitoring engines, wheels etc?
Very scary!
Somebody probably didn't close it properly
Yup!!
I’m glad they’re all okay.
DC 10: I am proud my son
😂😂😂😂😂
What kind of maintenance is needed for engine cover anyway ?
It depends what your doing to the cowling or what’s behind it
It’s kind of strange that now Boeing has issues with more airlines. It now seams that Southwest has suddenly forgotten how to do maintenance on their jets. United has been getting better. Hopefully this is the only incident for Southwest
You would be surprised how much of this goes on!!!
Dawg it was one incident and it was one person unlike United with 4 incidents this year
You can’t blame the airline it was one person who didn’t do their job with the plane
@@Ramian_gaming I’m not blaming the airline but I know there’s going to be some people that are going to take it all on Boeing. Not their fault either
@@PlaneSpotterRVer314 ok
How is it that plants don't have cameras ask the way around for pilots to view?? I mean this is standard on Teslas!
Now the pilots will do better pre check of the aircraft.

Is history repeating?
I saw tape. Was it taped on? Must have lost the screws and figured tape would do.
Of course not. 🙄
Fan fact spirit aero system makes the cover for 737 engines
FALSE the Cowlings are made by RORH (Goodrich Aerostructures)
It doesn't matter who made it maintenance needs to make sure latches are secured. The plane was 9 years old.
@@jjiglesiasg I believe that's ROHR and the parent company is now Raytheon.
Do they latch them too?
Conduct walk around check to if toilet has been removed or door is left open?😂
Cfm 56-7 fan cowls have 3 latches located at bottom of the cowls. Mechanical failure, latch(s) not closed or latches out of adjustment are possibilities.
Again SW
This happens all the time...
Forget dismissals because after countless fiascos what is needed is arrests.
Who's gonna get arrested?
At least it occurred during takeoff instead of over civilian areas
Take off and landing are the most dangerous parts of the flight. If the engine had failed past V1, this could have ended in disaster.
@@phuketexplorer but engine thrust wasn’t affected, or was it?
also good vid.

Looks like engine cowlings should now be part of the take off check list, seems to happen quite frequently nowadays.
They already are
Technician did not secure the engine cowling properly, no experience mechanic not well educated or understand of aircraft maintenance
not ANOTHER boeing incident (i know its not boeings falt but i had to say it...)

@@rajeshraghavan2248 how long did it take to think about this joke?
Lol Boeing, truth is most of the problems are actually spirit aerosystems. Problems should reduce once Boeing buys them back
Except this isn't a manufacturer issue. Most likely maintenance/ground crew.
Cowlings are NOT MADE by Spirits but by Goodrich Aerostructures
The truth is, somebody forgot to latch the cowling...
Boeing's CEO stepped down so he doesn't have to deal with this stuff.
He dealt with SW's mechanics?
Why are all these accidents happening are 737 related it's like it's a coincidence 😂
It’s a meme now
Why? Because the media, that's why... Two Delta A330s have recently lost their panels but Simply Flying has stayed quiet about that.
Because Boeing only produces the best quality & safest airplanes, all endorsed by world-famous quality control expert John Barnett.
That's why Boeing is the unparalleled leader in safe aircraft & aviation safety.
Sabotage
@@rc70ys by whom exactly?
No panic. Just another Boeing incident ...
E
wow again
i thought only the 737 max was dangerous...
It wasn't Boeing's fault.
Going by that logic, every passenger plane is dangerous because their engine cowlings can fall off at any point.
The 737 max is not dangerous. Stop taking every news article and opinion on it on face value.
