    DRV does almost everything right! ❤ Every time I see one I am very impressed. I haven’t finished the video, but others I’ve seen had a completely covered underside, not just with cheap plastic wrap, but a fiberglass bottom! These are MEANT to be used!

      I agree with you on both points. However, several major manufacturers have moved away from Schwintek slides because they are notoriously difficult to repair when they get out of alignment which is becoming all to frequent. Personally I like the looks of Schwintek but I don’t need the headaches they cause.

    Interesting floor plan, but I noticed some stuff that I would critique for what I assume is a very high price.
    1) Interior cabinet construction seems the same as every other mass produced RV on the road. Cabinet doors seem well built. Great comment about those trays not extending the entire depth.
    2) Still have RV appliances. Yes, upgraded, but not higher end like GE Profile that we're seeing on other high end RVs.
    3) Did I miss the washer/dryer or hookups?
    4) Copper manifold is great, but the rest of the plumbing has plastic pex fittings.
    5) I would have expected slim rack in lieu of the cable slides. I mean, I have cable on my run of the mill Keystone Cougar...

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  10 месяцев назад +7

      I agree with everything you stated other than the appliances. GE profile appliances are simply rebranded graystone.

    • @TDub_ADV
      @TDub_ADV 10 месяцев назад

      I dont 100% agree. I have crawled around these as well as lots of others when we were in our search for an RV. We also went to Elkhart and toured a few factories to see whats under the covers too. DRV is for sure well ahead of the mass produced units and its the stuff you don't see where the differences are. After those tours i have a very different opinion. There are some brands( and one that get a LOT of attention here on RUclips) that i would not buy period.
      1)RE: Cabinets Those cabinets are not constructed like mass produced units. They don't use any MDF or Lumbercore anywhere in their construction. Face frames are assembled with pocket screws, not staples like a lot of them. You wont find any laminate products either anywhere. Also the materials on the drawers and shelves are thicker. for instance the drawer bottoms are 1/2" VS most others 1/4" luan bottoms, drawer sides are also 1/2" vs 3/8" and as i mentioned no MDF(aka fallaparticle board) or chipboard. The thing i think they could do better is on drawer construction. They really should dovetail them, that would be so much better. The only 5th wheel manufacturers i have seen that do it are Luxe, New Horizons and Spacecraft, all of which cost a LOT more, in some cases like a SC over double. I do agree on the trays, dumb that they don't go all the way back and they seem narrower than they should be too. As a person that has been a woodworker for all of my adult life, these cabinets while not perfect are better than most and will last which is the most important part.
      2) How are these "RV appliances"? Insignia is a residential appliance brand found in many homes. I have some in my current house right now and believe it or not the insignia refrigerator we have replaced a very problematic GE Profile. It been better then the GE and way better then the Samsung i had in my old house.
      3) You missed it, the prep is in the half bath, he showed it and pointed it out.
      4) I agree they should use copper on all of the fittings but im sure weight is a factor here too.
      5) I think they all junk when they are broken. The Slimrack and Schwintek have plenty of reported and repeated issues as well, just go read any RV forum.
      I also feel like the term "high price" is relative. Compared to a Luxe or NH a DRV is a lot cheaper and not that far behind in quality. To me there are the low end mass produced units like a Cougar, higher end mass produced like a Grand Design. Semi mass produced units like DRV and Riverstone and then the super high end custom units like Luxe, NH and SC. Quality and cost goes up with each tier.

      Cable slides are lightweight and reliable. Its why you see them everywhere, you can use it over and over again until the wires stretch or break. Slim rack mechanisms are awful, hateful things with rails that bend, deform and break, with a weak drive system that will just eat its self when it wants to.

    Hey, JD out of all the DRVS you recently shown. I like this one the best, but for that kind of money, I'm still a big fan of the LUXE That would be my choice in that price range.

    • @TDub_ADV
      @TDub_ADV 10 месяцев назад

      Only problem is Luxe is not in this price range. A Luxe is significantly more probably 100k or more retail, and you would need a truck bigger than a standard 1 ton dually to pull it. Luxe is commercial truck territory due to the extreme pin weights.
      We priced a Luxe 45FB toy hauler last year and it came in 110k higher than a similar DRV and we could have easily made that price gap even higher. We also would have needed a 5500 sized truck or bigger to pull it too, the pin weight would have been right around 5k according to Luxe with the features we wanted. They suggested a Freightliner Sportchassis which would have been another 250k+.

    The build quality is top notch, but the living room seemed cramped to me, and the cloth interior while probably really nice material, looked a bit cheap to me. Given that this is a DRV, I was surprised they put an Insignia TV and Refrigerator in it. I also didn’t care that it has floor vents. The master bathroom shower surround seemed cheap for a DRV. At this price point, I’d expect to see a nice tile/Granite/Marble surround.
    The bunk room area was very unique. I could see the desk area really being nice for kids with homework, computer gaming, etc, or even an office workspace. It would be really nice if they gave the customers a few options to configure that space. I was also surprised to see cable slides at this price. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a DRV interior that I really liked. Everything about the brand is quality, I just don’t care for their floor plans and color schemes. Perhaps I just expect to be blown away given the price. Based on this model, it looks to me like they’re trying to cut costs in certain areas. It’s a very nice rig, it’s just not for me. For the money, I’d rather buy a Forest River unit.

      @@johndoran3274 And if you crawl around under and inside all of them sorry they are not at all in the same quality class, not even close. Let’s see, chipboard floors, slide floors and roof, MDF cabinets, paper wrapped MDF everywhere, Laminated MDF counters, single pane windows, a less heavy duties frame, leaf springs, drum brakes etc etc, those are the things you will find in those brands, none of those things will be present in a DRV.
      The only brand on your list that comes close is Forrest river in the Riverstone Legacy line. They are built very similar and retail for similar money.

    I think it would have been better to have double bunk beds in the bunk room, so 4 children could sleep there. Since there is quite a lot of storage in the wall surrounding the tv, as well as under the beds. The middle desk table is good but seems a bit like wasted space (empty beneath or above).
    I think this is in the right direction though, having functional spaces. That is for full time living.
    The master bedroom has tons of storage in that wall, but then no windows to see the outside (in front of the bed I mean). Everything has its price.. (speaking of which I wonder what the price of this unit is). Cheers
