Can I do this in Photoshop CS6?
Frankly, I'm not sure. CS6 was 12 years ago. I do know the layout and filter locations have changed somewhat. I assume you have CS6? If so, give it a go.
for me, it does not pixelate the gradient background. Why?
It could be due to one of many reasons. One would have to inspect your file to determine the source of the problem.
