I think they should have focused the engineering efforts on the core functions of the unit itself and told marketing to take their voice command ideas to a toy manufacturer. Outside of novelty I don't think anyone is going to be using that in a professional setting.
Voice control is a great accessibility feature, for those technicians without arms. It's also neat that it doesn't recognize proper english accents, instead favoring those of us with a broken english. I'll take five, thanks!
Hi Steve, thanks for another great video. Do you have any incoming videos for a desoldering station? My Pace ST-125/SX-90 is not performing anymore, and I need something to upgrade to. I would be nice to find something that can suck solder from through-hole components with large ground planes. Thank you!
@@sdgelectronics very often. One of my most common repairs is removing oxidized connectors from water damaged car ECUs, and its a pain to desolder 80 to 160 pins each time.
@@thereverant5203 the Metcal system I have works well, but you do need an external compressor. It delivers a lot of heat into large planes. I'm not sure of the competition though.
@@sdgelectronics is it the MX-DS1 from a 10-year old video that you have uploaded? What's the 10 year status update? And most importantly, which one is the silent compressor that you have? Thank a lot Steve!
Would also be a lot better if it also only acknowledge the wake word with a "hey" and not the rest of it. It seems very annoying to have to wait for it to finish before giving it the command.
Yeah, if they'd just reduced it to something short like "Hey" or "Yes?" it would be so much more expeditious. At least they didn't get the "Bluetooth device is connected" lady to record the voice. 😆
if this expensive device couldn't desolder at low temp without preheater in mass ground plane board, then i guess cheaper atten st862 + preheater can do the job.
@@ampuh214 it's mostly true, a hot air station isn't going to be too effective at heating up an entire pcb so a preheater is essential. It does go up to 500C which is how many of the repair channels remove parts, but that's not the correct way to do it.
For this price its a bargain. I expected to se a $500 tag, but under $300 its a no brainer. Im sure someone will hack it and improve the voice commands, altough i dont see much use for them. Plus the long response is annoying, but I'm hooeful someone with more free time will "fix" that.
What is the sense of voice control?the most infortant is the function of heating and air..ycs r1 pro is better than this quick specially for REMOVING CPU
For someone outside an English speaking country, it's all the same. British, Australian or US, it's all the same. Whatever popped up first on Baidu, or whatever equivalent of Google they used to find this version of English, is what they uploaded.

No one is using that feature period.

Technician's without arms? If they don't have arms, how are they going to use a hot air rework station?
@@Wil_Bloodworth whooosh.
I like how when she says 5 it sounds like a US Southerner.
In the programmed thermal profiles, are there only 3 segments or can you have more than 3 segments?
3 segments only
Looks like a nice and quite economical alternative to extremely expensive Hakko options.
Really cool, but I already have a Hakko :) Though if I didn't - I'd seriously consider this.
That really is a "light weight" motor driver pcb, so light weight i thought it was a photo of the pcb like big clive does sometimes!

Hakko FR-301 from japan they go for 160e and tax is over 50 e and 20e the transformer
How often do you find yourself doing desoldering work? I do have a low cost option which is in my pile of stuff to review.

What would be better, Aixun H314 or Quick? How does 15-50m/s airflow convert to liters per minute?
It doesn't. One is airspeed, the other is volume
@@AnnaVannieuwenhuyse Aixun gives airspeed in their spec, no volume information. Blower looks just as big as in Quick.
@@codernov not sure, I've only tested the H312. Arguably the electronics design is a bit better in the Quick units, but they'll both do the job well

I'll stick with my TR1300A
Which do you recommend the Quick 861DW or the Quick 861 Pro?
Steve, if you want to get into comedy videos, find a Yorkshire farmer and get him to try the voice commands!
@@FlyingShotsman I'm actually from Yorkshire, but suppress the accent for the most part 😂
