The V-berth is looking DAMN SPIFFY! Will you be able to program the magic digital switch box thingie to turn on the "mood lighting" and start your Barry White playlist simultaneously via bluetooth? Asking for a friend...

I bet Mads will sync the 'mood lighting & lights' throughout the boat. Maybe tie in some underwater lights?

Hi Mads, one thing you should consider is to put in a watertight companionway hatch instead of the old one. If the boat somehow would tip over in rough seas due to instability or other reasons, a fully watertight hatch is a somewhat cheap lifesaver because the interior of the boat acts as a watertight pod. Kind regards from your neighbors in Sweden😃

The mahogany and varnish give the Vee berth such a warm, cosy feel, and it is such a spiffy job; I'm sure you will not regret it.

  • @svbarryduckworth628
    @svbarryduckworth628 3 года назад

With a light-colored headliner and lighter bed linen the V-berth is going to look very nice, especially as it is a bookend to the open space of the belowdeck cabins.
I think some sort of fabric or vinyl headliner is the best idea with that since it will help keep noises down inside. A painted ceiling is going to make the interior of the boat sound like an echo chamber, especially if you go with a traditional wood sole.
You might want to bite the bullet and get the larger freezer while you still can and that becomes perpetually out of stock too. It's not like you have built a super low-energy electrical-miser boat. With the electric stove the extra juice to run a slightly larger freezer will hardly be noticed. You'll both be glad of the extra freezer space. Waiting and then eventually needing to build a freezer from scratch is something your optimistic schedulee simply can't afford.

I think that GREEN on the hinges is tarnished:
    Flour, Salt, and White Vinegar
Combine equal parts of all three ingredients to create a paste. Apply a thin layer of that paste to the tarnished brass and leave it for an hour before rinsing with warm water and drying.
There are a few other recipes but have at it here and see if that helps!

I can’t wait until you start sailing together! The only (literally the ONLY thing) I don’t like about your remodel is the cabinets in the galley, specifically the top line of the cabinets compared to the curve of the line above. I imagine something more organic in it’s place, that maybe “disguises” the angle and blends the lines... Either way, I love this journey, and best of luck!

I recommend buying a "Non-Ferrous" blade for your miter saw. The carbide teeth are set at a low angle which doesn't grab the item being cut. They work great for cutting solid plastic, composites, and aluminum as well as wood. The only downside is that the blade costs almost as much as a low end miter saw.

If you can't get your freezer in a timely manner, consider opting for Vitrifrigo, an Italian brand. We bought a 2 drawer 150litre fridge freezer. Perfect for cruising. Each drawer can be set up as a or fridge or a freezer i.e. a fridge/freezer, a fridge/fridge, a freezer/freezer or a freezer/fridge. For cruising we purchased a DRW180A V12/24 STEELOCK. Fill both drawers up with frozen food and when one is reduced in volume we turn it into a fridge. Top shelf build quality and after a number of domestic and cheap imports we finally found a brand that seems to work well and fit our needs. Not cheap, but then again we were getting through a cheap unit every two seasons, so hopefully the long term outcome will be worth the effort.

keep up your amazing work ... whoop whoop XD

Modern building methods recommends a thick PVC layer behind plasterboard to prevent humidity passing though and condensing on the cooler outer wall and insulation. As you have only GRP and cold water on the outside (wall)it would be worth considering behind the slats. I welcome feedback on what others think its only a suggestion as the slats are coming off again.

Mads, I have a lot of experience removing thick tarnish and clear coatings from bronze port lights. Heavy duty gel paint remover makes easy work of it. Xylene, acetone, etc., forget that stuff. Paint remover will take all the varnish off and some of the tarnish. I sand and use jeweler’s compound and rouge to remove the rest with a Drumel and felt wheels-maybe more work than you want to do.0

Just soak the brass bits in acid to remove all the oxidation from places you can't reach. Citric acid or vinegar or whatever. And do you want some Lanolin? Chapped lips, turn buckles, hinges: it works for everything. Less toxic and less runny than engine oil (actually supposed to be high pressure resistant and suitable for under the waterline). I'll send you some if you want. I... bought half a kilo but I think all I needed was 60g for the next 2 years.

Hey Mads, a thought I just had is when building the doors for the cabinets above the freezer there, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put a rabbit on the door and put a neoprene seal around them, so if you take some water through the hatch that is right there, it would keep the water out of everything stored inside.
I have left a hatch open and been away from the boat and had it rain before, amazing how far that water can travel.
