    Thank you for the clear explanations. I am looking for a contract template, do you have any recommendations?

    • @ogdencontractingltd
      @ogdencontractingltd  13 дней назад

      There are lots of standard templates out there, but it would be best to involve a lawyer to help put all the wording together. There are many types of lawyers out there, so it would be best to find a construction Lawyer who has spent time in court. This experience will help in the long run.

    When is the best time to write a contract? Before or after you meet with the homeowner?

    • @ogdencontractingltd
      @ogdencontractingltd  13 дней назад

      This is a very good question. There are two parts to this. Your contracts need to be written before hand and then tailored specifically to scope of work and the client after you meet them. If you write a contract after you meet the customer this may take too long and you risk losing the job. Better to have a generic contract that you can show them, then fill in the blanks for specificity.

    How do you differentiate between the contractors and owner’s responsibilities?

    Thanks for the video. I write pretty simple contracts and was told it could bite me in the butt eventually so I’ve been wanting more details and this was exactly what I’ve been looking for. I mainly build decks so pretty straightforward but there’s lots I can add 🍻

    Question, do you ever charge for a proposal?

    • @ogdencontractingltd
      @ogdencontractingltd  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes we do. We hope to film that video in the next 3 months. We have a great proposal agreement that gets us in the door with the owner and gets you paid upfront for estimating.

      @@ogdencontractingltd that’s great to know. The day I found your channel was the day we received a decline from a client for our services. She basically stated she was not accustomed to doing business with contractors that charge a fee for proposal services. My response was, just because you’re not “accustomed too” doesn’t mean it’s not happening. It’s typical for industry professionals to price for the services they provide.
      We didn’t even try to argue our point…🤝

    Hi great presentation I have one question as a sole trader does all of what you mention does it applies to me as a sole trader

    • @ogdencontractingltd

      What is it you are trading? Is it in construction?

      Saying sole trader is confusing. I don’t think many of us know what you mean by sole trader.

    Thank you for the detailed video. How much do you pay your lawyer to look over the contract?

    • @ogdencontractingltd
      @ogdencontractingltd  7 месяцев назад +1

      Our lawyer helped write the original document. I think that cost around $1,500 CAD. And each time he looks it over he charges me an hour at $280. It’s cheap insurance.

      @@ogdencontractingltd Thanks for asking! I'm just studying the subject. I have worked with carpentry finish trim, kitchen and railing in the past, starting in 2002 till 2011, when I came back from the US. I´m a Brazilian. I'm thinking about learning more about the topic to work as a consultant, bid works and work more like a gc, finding good subcontractors that fit the work I can get. I'm really at the beginning. And I thank you very much for the attention and care that you gave with this part of the contract. Here in Brazil, I worked a lot with my father when I was a teenager and a bit far, between my 15 and 24 years, he is a lawyer and the contracts business, I have brought it with me my whole life. Now I'm an engineer, but I never left those good times abroad behind. Nice to meet you my friend! You and your family have a great weekend and life!
