  • El Castillo, or the Temple of Kukulcan, is 98 feet tall and has 365 steps. What you can't see from the outside is the original, much smaller pyramid that acted as a foundation.

    I climbed this temple in 2005. It was both an exciting and frightening experience. A climbing ban was put on it in 2006 after an 80-year-old woman fell from the steps, unable to grab onto the safety rope. She died from her injuries. Many of the other pyramids were closed as well, but not all.

    I just visited it a few days ago, if you are planning to go there here are a few tips in case you didn't know:
    1) It is extremely hot, bring lots of water and/or drinks, they don't sell drinks there. I seen an ambulance drive by to address a dehydrated girl. Also don't wear too many layers obviously.
    2) If you want to climb or touch the pyramid, you can't, because some jackass a few years ago did graffiti on it and therefore no one can even touch this ancient work anymore. They want to protect the piece.
    3) Book the tour on a at least partially cloudy day, there are trees to get shade at but they are a little far, so looking at the pyramid on a sunny day was hell for me.

    • @farisguerouate655
      @farisguerouate655 7 лет назад +4

      1 and 3 are not that good of advice because I got Powerade and water and chicken itza next to El Cenote Sageado and its not super hot it's just humid and you can't climb it anymore because someone slipped in 2005 and if you book a tour on a cloudy day it might rain and I can tell you from a Latino perspective

    Mayans were the descendants of ancient Vedic rishis.

    • @sadenb
      @sadenb 7 лет назад +1

      Hey dumbass . The Vedic Rishis existed far beyond 3000 BC back when there was no Mayan civilisation. Neither are there any ancient records of Mayan influence. The geography mentioned in the Rig Veda which is older than the Mayan civilisation is wholly Indian. So your theory doesn't hold out. Further recent genetic evidence suggests the R1a1a haplogroup gene out of India.

    • @sadenb
      @sadenb 7 лет назад +1

      They have a lot to do with. There was a lot of trade between Hindus and Mayans. There is also elephant inscriptions in certain Mayan cities. Elephants are not native to America. Not just that there seems to be similarities between the Mayan and Hindu calendar except that the Hindu calendar still continues to this date. Pyramidic temples are also found in Cambodia . The only reason to support the Vedic origins of Mayans are some early migration of India through the Bering Strait, is simply because the Hindu texts are still surviving for over 5000-6000 years and the Mayans have not. Second reason is the trading evidence between the two civilisations. You only have the architecture, we have the metaphysics behind the architecture as well.
      Also there were more than 24 ancient universities in India much before the Greeks. So it is not improbable as the cradle of human civilisation was with the Indians and Chinese. However, the Chinese have destroyed their own culture while India have resisted despite arabic invasions, colonial domination .The fact that the knowledge still lives on is a testament. The pyramid is essentially what is known as a Mandala where the central point is the energy centre of transformation. This is mentioned in the Agama Shastras which are given by the Vedic sage Agasthya. All mandalas follow the same structure. So if not descendants there was surely enough trade for the knowledge to outflow.
