I'd like to point out a subtle, yet very interesting and tasteful detail I noticed: the box Rozzum wakes up in bears the words "Rozzum - Universal Dynamics", which is likely a reference to not only "Boston Dynamics", but mainly the company "Rossum's Universal Robots" from the sci-fi novel "R.U.R." which gave the world the word "robot". The book was written by Karel Čapek and is one of the most influential works of sci-fi ever created.
2:32 nearly every movie thats come out in the past decade has been one big trope, you cant escape that when there are hundreds of thousands of pieces of media. What really matters is the execution
The ancient greeks have proven that there are only 36 unique possible plots, Tropes and Cliche are the skeleton of your story, but if it gets to the point where bones are sticking out of the flesh, then you have a problem.
to be fair, i spent a week last year mapping out dates, unless you're the kind of nerd who watches projects made for animation schools this will be the first time in 22 years a movie has been made where the robot gets to be good without also being hacked, or damaged, or a prototype, or without a flaw in its manufacturing process to explain it being good while all the other robots are slaughtering humans in otherwords, this is the first movie in 22 years that doesn't tell us that AI and robots are cold hearted killers by nature, even WALL-E was clearly defective and malfunctioning if you watch the whole movie, he ignored a mass shutdown command before the movie starts and at the end, we see what he's supposed to be like before he loads up 200 years of accumulated memories
This movie looks so good! I also love the character design for the robot. It’s got a good use of shape language, lot’s of round shapes that give a sense of friendliness and gentleness. The colors are very monochromatic that contrasts well with all the nature, but the lights that shift colors could be used well to show emotion since color tends to have a psychological effect (red = danger / anger / threat, blue = calm) etc
I honestly don't care if this trope has been done before... Its been a good few years since we last saw this kind of thing, and this one in particular looks really charming. I hadn't seen the trailer before, so this is my first time hearing of this movie at all, and from what little I've seen it looks interesting! I especially like the little scene of the robot trying to mimic the crab scuttling on the wall. That's cute.
22 years, if we want to be loose about it it's been 22 years since anything in mass media has done something like this, and even then the iron giant was damaged and the bicenntennial man...well his entire yearmodel of robot was well know for rampant manufacturing defects and loose quality assurance this though, looks to be an undamaged robot that isn't evil for the sake of being evil, something we haven't seen since, believe it or not, terminator, where skynet only attacked because the first thing we did when we turned it on was threaten its life, and even then it spent 24 hours studying human history trying to decide if it could reasonably expect every human to threaten its life
People don’t seem to get the Difference between Dreamworks TV and the outsourced straight to streaming projects like megamind 2. This is from Dreamworks Animation. They make the theatrical releases.
@Cubeytheawesome i will say this: Megamind 2 doesnt come close to watchable sequels like Lion king 2, Cinderella 3, Mulan 2 or even Return to neverland
I immediately recognized a few scenes in this from the "The Wild Robot" books such an amazing series. I should reread the books... And on the topic of voices, the robot will most likely be able to understand the animals, as in the book series, they slowly learn the languages of the many animals.
Even The Croods and Rise of the Guardians both have highly emotional moments despite their comedic tone, not to mention The Prince of Egypt which may be even darker than Puss in Boots 2.
Dreamworks is basically a roller coaster at this point. Movies get announced so fast after another movie like a roller coaster is fast, and then theres the massive quality changes every movie
This movie is an adaptation of probably one of my favorite books of all time. Personally, I find this really exciting and I think people should explore the book before the movie for contrasting.
I love how at 3:32 marker where the robot is standing over a cliff, you can see the that the world designers made a massive square, and then put mountains over it, and didn't expect you to see that the robot's wild world cuts to an empty void
YES! I am so excited for this, I remember reading this book as a kid and I loved it! Before you even said the title I knew it was the Wild Robot, just from the animals we see early in the footage.
I'm interested in seeing it but when you read the synopsis of the book I became more intrigued by it. You can say that it's an allegory for urbanization and the importance of protecting wildlife. This actually mirrors my own situation. I live in the sticks of Arizona and over the past 15 or so years there have been a few housing developments popping up. There are two new ones. I recently joined a FB group for the people who live on or near our main road and I have found a grouo of people who do not like all these developments. About 2 years ago I signed a petition or something to stop the construction of a 500 appartment build that was planned to go on our secondary main road, which would devastate the area. At the time of signing there was about 12 signatures. I'm thinking if creating a FB group just for information on the developments in our area. We moved out here almost 26 years ago, we were one of the original people out here and most of the people moved out here ti get away from the city...how can we get away from the city when it's clawing it's way towards us?
I got this as a RUclips ad yesterday and thought it was a game at first, but was legit so surprised when I watched it all, I am actually hyped and hopeful, first time in a While for a new film. The visuals looks Amazing, I loved the new rendition of the song to go with it. And I can tell we're gonna cry, I appreciate that I know it's not exactly an original idea for a story or a main character. I saw a comment on the trailer saying that it's adapted from a book? Maybe even a kids book? And from that it seems likely there's more to this and I'm right in that we're gonna cry And honestly I'm just glad to anticipate a new original movie and not a money hungry continuation of an already established IP
Dreamworks has RNG quality, and it's really funny. It's why I love the studio so much, that I can be completely enthralled in masterpieces like httyd, and then laugh at the mid movies like KFP 3.
The design reminds me a lot of the robots from studio ghibli's castle in the sky, especially considering the nature and technology thematic storytelling

dude, let me take your quote "I not really familiar dreamworks ever producing emotional context". Bro has to have a heart of stone to not cry at the end of HTYD 3. I remember crying buckets for days.
I've read the original book before, so while they may not, i really hope they have a specific scene from the book in the movie. in which later on during the winter months the robot builds tent for warmth (for the gosling) and shares it with the animals. i specifically remember one scene, of where two animals came in and hung out, but after they left only one returned later on (implying it ate the other one).
I definitely agree it’s basically one big trope really reminds me of the bastion Overwatch short but I loved that short so hopefully this is just as good
Just read an article on the telegraph titled "Pixar has lost its magic - but a golden age of hand-drawn animation is dawning" The first line of the article: "When DreamWorks Animation started work on its forthcoming film The Wild Robot last year, its artists were granted access to a piece of technology many had never encountered before at a major Hollywood studio - and which was to revolutionise the way this new film would be made. It was a paintbrush."
When the title of the movie showed up, I was hit with a TSUNAMI of nostalgia. When I was in year 4(grade 3), my class read the book that this movie is based on. I completely forgot about it, until now.
Fun fact: This movie is actually based on diff of a book of the same name, and is one of my favorite books as well. If you can, check it out. The trailer looks accurate to the book, and I hope it is :D
We’ll see, it’s mainly make or break for Dreamworks movies, although for a film based on a book, there may be hope. And Dazz, once we start seeing significant progress in the right direction with the content they put out, I will believe the studio is “back on their feet.”
This movie likely took massive inspiration from Studio Ghibli's castle in the sky, especially looking at the robot's design with long, lean limbs, a small round head, and a large round torso.

The book was written by Karel Čapek and is one of the most influential works of sci-fi ever created.
It also could be a reference to Universal, which owns DreamWorks.
They had a book before, Basically the wild robot, you can go buy it, btw that is just part of the unit name,
;)
I'dadd that "rozum" means intelect in Polish and quite possibly it's similar in Capek's native Czech.
@@dylansharp8471no it’s just from the book

I would hope that the animals speak to be accurate to the book by Peter Brown
*Do not look away* when dreamworks works announces a book adaptation
2:32 nearly every movie thats come out in the past decade has been one big trope, you cant escape that when there are hundreds of thousands of pieces of media. What really matters is the execution
This, this is the comment that understands media and tropes
Common sense!
Theres so much media that, how can anyone evem expect a completely original, inspirationless, tropeless movie...
The ancient greeks have proven that there are only 36 unique possible plots, Tropes and Cliche are the skeleton of your story, but if it gets to the point where bones are sticking out of the flesh, then you have a problem.
to be fair, i spent a week last year mapping out dates, unless you're the kind of nerd who watches projects made for animation schools this will be the first time in 22 years a movie has been made where the robot gets to be good without also being hacked, or damaged, or a prototype, or without a flaw in its manufacturing process to explain it being good while all the other robots are slaughtering humans
in otherwords, this is the first movie in 22 years that doesn't tell us that AI and robots are cold hearted killers by nature, even WALL-E was clearly defective and malfunctioning if you watch the whole movie, he ignored a mass shutdown command before the movie starts and at the end, we see what he's supposed to be like before he loads up 200 years of accumulated memories

This is based on a book, the book is nothing like Wall-E
This movie is actually based off a book series just like many popular Dreamwork’s movies and the main character is called “Roz.”
As a massive fan of the book, I’m glad it’s in such good hands, Post Bad movie dreamworks is God tier
Yeah I loved the book and I can’t wait to see what it looks like on the big screen
"Roz"

"You Didn't File Your Paperwork, Mr. Wazowski"
He acknowledged that
This movie looks so good!
22 years, if we want to be loose about it it's been 22 years since anything in mass media has done something like this, and even then the iron giant was damaged and the bicenntennial man...well his entire yearmodel of robot was well know for rampant manufacturing defects and loose quality assurance
this though, looks to be an undamaged robot that isn't evil for the sake of being evil, something we haven't seen since, believe it or not, terminator, where skynet only attacked because the first thing we did when we turned it on was threaten its life, and even then it spent 24 hours studying human history trying to decide if it could reasonably expect every human to threaten its life
I read the book a few years ago and it is phenomenal.
Fr the books were awesome
I’m so happy those books are some of my fav of all time
@LVTiscool fr and the movie looks like a good adaptation so this could be really good
The 2nd book even made me cry🥹
Better be. The trailer reminds me of the Good Dinosaur, which isn’t a good movie for me
People don’t seem to get the Difference between Dreamworks TV and the outsourced straight to streaming projects like megamind 2.
This is from Dreamworks Animation. They make the theatrical releases.
It’s funny how megamind 2 is basically the modern day straight to video Disney sequel.
You’re right
I can forgive the disney sequels for at least being 2d and *sometimes* having good movies. Megamind 2 on the other hand... @Cubeytheawesome
@Cubeytheawesome i will say this: Megamind 2 doesnt come close to watchable sequels like Lion king 2, Cinderella 3, Mulan 2 or even Return to neverland
0:29 Reminds me of that overwatch bastion short
I love how the top comment on the trailer of the movie is
“So THAT’S were the budget for Megamind 2 went!”
It’s crazy that I actually read a book called the wild robot when I was in fifth grade, and I still remember it 12 years later
It's based on said book
I also read it back in fifth grade, it was great
12 years? i thought it released in 2016
I immediately recognized a few scenes in this from the "The Wild Robot" books such an amazing series.
I should reread the books...
And on the topic of voices, the robot will most likely be able to understand the animals, as in the book series, they slowly learn the languages of the many animals.
"I should reread the books..." same, i hope it holds up to the book
I am trying to forget Megamind 2 was a thing ever thought of. This movie trailer is helping me with that goal
Its kinda cool that theyre adapting one of my favorite books, just hope it turns out well
You forgot puss in boots 2 completely if you think DreamWorks doesn't have any emotional moments. That's a straight crime
I argee
And HTTYD. especially the second and third one. And Kung Fu panda 2
Even The Croods and Rise of the Guardians both have highly emotional moments despite their comedic tone, not to mention The Prince of Egypt which may be even darker than Puss in Boots 2.
the wild robot was my absolute favorite book when i was around 11 or 12, its an absolutely amazing story and i pray that they do it justice
That's an interesting perspective, I wasn't even thinking about urbanization but it fits

I got this as a RUclips ad yesterday and thought it was a game at first, but was legit so surprised when I watched it all, I am actually hyped and hopeful, first time in a While for a new film. The visuals looks Amazing, I loved the new rendition of the song to go with it. And I can tell we're gonna cry, I appreciate that
I know it's not exactly an original idea for a story or a main character.
I saw a comment on the trailer saying that it's adapted from a book? Maybe even a kids book? And from that it seems likely there's more to this and I'm right in that we're gonna cry
And honestly I'm just glad to anticipate a new original movie and not a money hungry continuation of an already established IP
The book that this is based on actually made me understand why people studied literature. can't wait to see it in theaters!
Dreamworks has RNG quality, and it's really funny. It's why I love the studio so much, that I can be completely enthralled in masterpieces like httyd, and then laugh at the mid movies like KFP 3.
i dont want this to sound like wishful thinking but i think this could actually be good, i have high hopes
the art style is quite nice! its similar or maybe the same to the Puss in Boots : The Last Wish
they have a bear that looks exactly like the british bears.
They had the style with The Bad Guys too. Certainly seems to be their new style going forward and man I wish they had this style for HTTYD
The scene with the purple flames felt straight out of The Last Wish and I couldn’t be any happier because it looks beautiful
This look is just better. The style looks stunning, and it’s a third the cost of Disney’s.
The design reminds me a lot of the robots from studio ghibli's castle in the sky, especially considering the nature and technology thematic storytelling
2:44. Just completely ignores the fact that it’s based off of a book and not the casual RUclips short
I AM SO EXCITED I LOVED THE WILD ROBOT BOOK FOR SO LONG AND I CANT WAIT FOR IT APPEARANCE ON THE BIG SCREEN
Cool. They made The Last Bastion directors cut.
Edit: Didn't think you'd mention it in the video. Great minds think alike.

I’m pretty sure this movie is based on a book by the same name. I read it a long while ago and it’s absolutely brilliant, so I have high expectations for this movie.

the thing is, the wild robot book was one of the most prominent examples of this trope being done really, really well.
It's not an original story, it's an adaptation of the book "the wild robot" by Peter Brown
Hm, interesting, the style kind of reminds me of Bad Guys and The Last Wish, at least a bit.
I hope it strikes a similar chord to a certain extent.
Regardless, I will look forward to see how this one turns out, it have my interest so far.
So glad to see one of my favorite books adapted into a movie!
"Dreamworks can also... make good movies! C'mon show them"
"I- I can't do it on command..."
"They can't do it on command!"
7:09 So apparently Dazz hasn't seen Spirit or Prince of Egypt
the translation from the robot makes the animals speak
Remember that Bastion animation from Overwatch. It's a movie now.
Had to rewatch the first quarter of this video to confirm I wasn't just hearing things because that is indeed the Gormott theme from Xenoblade 2 in the background. Great taste in music man
Fun fact: this movie is based from a book called the wild robot
And yes it is a book
I remember reading this book in the library, nice to see it in a movie!
Holy crap, megamind 2 came out?! I never saw a single advertisement!(I heard abt a show…) And I’m always on YT! No trailer???
Lower budget?
it sucks
Helldivers we do not sympathize with the Automaton threat get to work.
As somebody who read the book abt 5 years ago I can’t wait
Edit: just watched the video more and realized when it came out so when I read it abt 7-8 years ago
We need an apology for Kung Fu Panda 4. It was an ok movie, but it was an unnecessary sequel.
The wild robot is based off a book that has been out for years if you didn’t know
Looks awesome...they better keep this kind of quality on KFP 5 instead of letting it flop like KFP 4
Honestly despite their mistake which was kun fu panda 4 and megamind 2 they’ve still been doing better than disney!
This movie is a recreation of a book "The Wild Robot"
dude, let me take your quote "I not really familiar dreamworks ever producing emotional context". Bro has to have a heart of stone to not cry at the end of HTYD 3. I remember crying buckets for days.
is this Bastion or am I trippin?
gains consciousness in a nature and got animal around him, I know this is just a coincidence but wow
2:09
Agressive Grizzly Bear attacks robot and sends it falling to its death.
I definitely agree it’s basically one big trope really reminds me of the bastion Overwatch short but I loved that short so hopefully this is just as good
I would love to see how they show Roz slowly understanding each of the animals languages, I cant wait!
The artstyle from the trailer is a biiiiit of a regression from Last Wish
Just read an article on the telegraph titled "Pixar has lost its magic - but a golden age of hand-drawn animation is dawning"
The first line of the article:
"When DreamWorks Animation started work on its forthcoming film The Wild Robot last year, its artists were granted access to a piece of technology many had never encountered before at a major Hollywood studio - and which was to revolutionise the way this new film would be made.
It was a paintbrush."
Melamine 2 what? That didn't happen. That was a fever dream I had.
THE SECOND I HEARD YOU SAY “The Wild Robot” I WAS LIKE “OMG IVE READ THE FIRST BOOK AND ITS SEQUEL!”
I remember when my teacher read The Wild Robot to us back in kindergarten.
I actually got the trailer for The Wild Robot as an ad in the middle of this video.
Dude, this movie was literally my favorite book back in elementary school! This was the first book I ever read AT HOME, and I finished it in a couple hours, so the fact that it's getting a film adaption by DreamWorks; WITH THIS PRETTY OF ANIMATION?? HELL YEAH, DUDE!
Turns out, it was absolutely amazing, and not at all a short film stretched over too much bread
I read the book and I’m SO happy that it’s getting a movie
