  • Wikipedia: The SKS self-loading carbine is a semi-automatic rifle designed by Soviet small arms designer Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov in 1945.
The SKS was first produced in the Soviet Union but was later widely exported and manufactured by various nations. Its distinguishing characteristics include a permanently attached folding bayonet and a hinged, fixed magazine. As the SKS lacked select-fire capability and its magazine was limited to ten rounds, it was rendered obsolete in the Soviet Armed Forces by the introduction of the AK-47 in the 1950s. Nevertheless, SKS carbines continued to see service with the Soviet Border Troops, Internal Troops, and second-line and reserve army units for decades.
The SKS was manufactured at Tula Arsenal from 1945 to 1958, and at the Izhevsk Arsenal from 1953 to 1954, resulting in a total Soviet production of about 2.7 million. Throughout the Cold War, millions of additional SKS carbines and their derivatives were also manufactured under license in the People's Republic of China, as well as a number of countries allied with the Eastern Bloc. The SKS was exported in vast quantities and found favour with insurgent forces around the world as a light, handy weapon which was adequate for guerrilla warfare despite its conventional limitations. Beginning in 1988, millions were also sold on the civilian market in North America, where they remain popular as hunting and sporting rifles.

Such a simple yet effective gun. I miss the days when you could buy them for under $100 bucks all day long.

I don't know how long it took you to do it but that was an excellent animation, the only other thing I wish you had opened up the cleaning kits so people could see what was in it. Also if you know where I can find that scope mount please let me.

Excellent job, what editing program do you work with to design the parts and mechanics?

It's a game called World of Guns on Steam, I just use it to demonstrate how guns work. Apparently you can download it on the app store but I haven't tried yet.

That isn’t a Soviet SKS thats a Yugoslavian SKS, they were the only ones to use a 22mm grenade launcher.

I heard hang fire happens when the firing pin sticks. The firing pin on my seems to stick a little, so I've lubed the hell out of it, but there's still some sticking. Although when I shake it, it moves up and down quite freely. My question is, if anyone here can answer it, does the pin really have to be super-stuck to hangfire? Cause I've put about 50 rounds through mine, and no hangfire yet.

You should probably clean out the firing pin channel in case it does, but if you haven't had a hangfire yet, you should be good. I had a couple hangfires with an sks I got from an auction because the previous owner absolutely caked the firing pin and everything else with *thick* motor oil.
