The reason he was crying after his Sign of The Times performance was because that’s only the second time he had performed it live, and the first time he couldn’t hit those notes. He was so happy that he got through and didn’t run out of breath, and he knew he did a good job. He’s so humble and yet so completely good at what he does. And him projecting his emotions to songs just gives a lot more to everything. I always am swooned when random people just appreciate him for it, because he has been through some criticism that he can't sing and took it very to his heart at start of his career and when you've been there for few years, you just see not just musical growth, but also his personality growth and it just warms your heart to live in his era.
