Absolutely the best mug packing I have seen . One suggestions is if it is too close to 16oz.. I cut off just a hair from the inside flaps of both boxes.
I moved from California to Indy 30 years ago and the driver from the moving company showed me that if you stuff the mug or glass with newspaper, they never break. Our entire kitchen made it the 2,500 miles without a single break. I will add this to your excellent method. Thanks !!
@@commonwealthflipper it won’t since (well at least the example you showed us) it ended up being 15.6 oz. with the newspaper I don’t see it being more than 16 oz on the dot.
Since watching this video a few months ago when I just started, I've shipped out about 10 mugs this way. Sometimes I have to use a 5x5x5 inside of a 6x6x6 because it was a bigger mug. But this works great and I've gotten good feedback on my packing. Thanks!
As someone who notoriously overpacks everything that's a pretty decent method. (Meanwhile I just shipped a thick walled snowshoe mountain mug for over 2 lbs.)
I'm glad I found this video - I'm a fairly new mug seller and I've been using either a box inside padded FR or risking it just bubble wrap and one box. I did the math and I agree - your method is a money saver.
I have no idea really because I'm just getting into flipping but my heart tells me to use more bubble wrap. But you seem to really know what you're doing so I trust your judgement.
I love all your videos about how to ship stuff. When people ask for information how to ship I refer to your videos in your channel. On Facebook in different groups one question is asked about shipping, you are the man.
I use a 6x6x6. I wrap everything in tissue first then two pieces of bubble wrap and maybe a little paper and they go USPS ground I think it is. And yes I’m up a little early so good morning.
Hello, I just viewed this video for packing mugs, thank you. I am very very new and I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. What would be a good cost for the mug you demonstrated and how do you factor in the cost for the boxes used. Thanks for your help!
"The post office needs it under 13 oz" For clarity, if you buy directly from USPS the weight is 13oz. If you buy postage from ebay you get 16 oz and you won't be charged for going over 13 oz. Just had a mini heart attack when you said 13 oz and had to do a little google fu. :D
Wow I do double box but I amazed u don’t use much tape on that box. I would have gone round it couple of times in a cross to hold it.? I wonder is that too much thanks
I would just bubble wrap and then wrap scrap cardboard around the bubble wrap. That way it would not break in a bigger box. So you could just cut free and save on the inside box.
Seems like a viable shipping method to me...more than some sellers would even bother doing for fear of "wasting" boxes and not looking out for it getting intact to the Customer. I think your mug shipping is the ideal way.
I can see that your package weighs 15.6oz, but have you ever had an issue with the post office's scale overweighing? I know I've weighed packages with my own scale (which is accurate within .1 of an ounce) and then on the receipt from the post office after they weigh it, it'll be a few tenths over, and that could be the difference between being under a pound or not. I know USPS always advises rounding the weight up, but that can cost a lot of money.
I’m hoping you can help me 😫 I used this method to mail my 15 ounce coffee mug. I use pirateship. This is my first time mailing a coffee mug and pirateship is telling me, the box has to be bigger than 5 x 5 x 5. How do you ship your 5 x 5 x 5 box?
LOVE IT !!! Now I just need to make a RUclips again get a following find a mug guy and go to selling lol. That is really good though I do that with some of my breakable no vibration or movement = no brakes cracks or chips then there is the added surface area that helps take the impact. Sadly non of what I send could go 1st class cookie jars are just to big and heavy most the time
I do it without a box and haven’t had a break yet. Wrap in paper, wrap in small bubble wrap 3 layers, then wrap in 1 or two layers of medium 1/2” bubble wrap, 12x15” poly bag. Wrap tape around poly bag. Up to 13 oz mug or small glass object. Packaging is about 2.5 oz total.
What is big cartel through pirate ship? New to selling here. I have used pirate ship for all of my shipping thus far but don't know this big cartel. Thanks.
Loved the video! I got so much useful information. I have a question. Is PirateShip a trusted and reliable service? Are there other services you use or recommend for shipping? I'm a new viewer so I am not sure if these questions are answered in a different video. Does anyone know? Subscribed!
Why not just charge a 2-pound priority rate? You are automatically insured against damage for $50. Having shipped thousands of mugs, I do not want to risk receiving negative feedback from a buyer who receives a broken mug - just to save the buyer $3. The buyer prefers receiving their purchase unbroken to saving three dollars.
Kiven I was wondering. Your scale is that a regular postal type scale up to 66lbs I was thinking of getting a 440 to 660 same price as the smaller ones. I may not need 440 and up but you never know what comes your way. Please advise. Also lots more bubble wrap wouldn't it help with coffee cups just by doubling up on it or put more inside the cups and around it.
I'm really new to this (haven't shipped a thing!) so please pardon me if this is a dumb question! Why don't you use the free "fragile" tape from USPS? I ordered all of the boxes and such that you mentioned in your other video and I saw the fragile tape so I got that too, but haven't seen one person using it in all of the videos I've watched. Thanks!
A better business model is to have the customer pay for safe shipping and pack appropriately. No amount of damage product is “acceptable”......it just that lazy businesses have tried to make it so.
I just got ROBBED for shipping a coffee mug....17 bucks to ship from Boston to Washington State. Box weighed 1 pound 4 ounces.....Priority mail.....Thats the craziest price Ive ever paid so I found your video because there HAS to be a cheaper method....So, im gonna just cut cardboard and make a box so its not much bigger than the mug.....lesson learned I guess
Great content. Thanks. I have been searching for a good way to ship glassware. I have been stuffing bubble mailers with glassware in them into a box. Do you think that bubble wrap inside the cup would help even more ? Can you do a video on a tour of your cabin? It is pretty impressive. Hello to everyone, from Northern Michigan.
If you can get them cut up pool noodles are good for breakables. You can slice them into circles, slice long ways and use as a buffer between pieces and also along sides of box. I think it would be cheaper than padded envelopes. I also wrap everything in tissue paper first then use two pieces of bubble wrap.
I've been using the fomo method for mugs, especially the bigger ones and have had good success. I dont have these size boxes so ill probably keep doing that untill I can buy more supplies.
Unless you’ve got something else in the box that might rattle and smash around, I see no benefit to stuffing the interior of the cup. You’re protecting the mug from external impacts.

I have tried this method and I am always over a pound. I think the weight of my 11oz mugs might be the issue, my 11oz mugs weigh 12oz on their own.
I liked your shop wood building !
I have shipped many mugs of varying sizes in 6x6x6 Walmart boxes. Cushioned with just brown paper under and over. no issues yet

What size box do you use? Thank you.

Thanks for sharing Kevin. I'll give it a try for sure.👍
Depends on the quality and the weight of the mug as well. The mug itself needs to weigh under 13 0z for sure.
