Little interesting fact. Emmet does have a big smile across his face. He's known for having a very happy expression, but speaks in a serious voice. Ingo however speaks in a more joyful voice, but has a serious face. The duo compliment each other in this aspect very well.

I'll always be in awe of how Pokemon Legends Arceus rocketed the Subway Bosses' popularity in the west. Japan has always ADORED these guys, to the point where Ingo ranked as the most popular character in Black and White and Emmett ranked as the 3rd most popular character in one poll (N was #2). But most of the western fandom either ignored them or didn't know they existed until Legends Arceus came out.
FR, I found the challenge of the subway bosses to be very fresh! The grind to get to them first off and then actually beating them in doubles!
I remembered him. I was just casually playing through PLA for the first time, exploring the Coronet Highlands, and then it was him, the man who I bested so many years ago. And he had lost his memory. I still ask why, why did Arceus bring Ingo back in time? Just because he could? To help us out? And why give him amnesia? Why did Arceus (and the writers) make Ingo and Emmet Suffer by sending one back in time?

Emmet having identical Pokémon to Ingo is theorized to be because they are literally the same Pokémon! Running the doubles train means Emmet probably uses more than six Pokémon on a daily basis, so it would make sense for Ingo to share his team! Also Eelektross is considered to be Emmet's ace while Chandelure is considered to be Ingo's (although you knew that from Legends Arceus ;) )
Also totally random side fact: Emmet's Galvantula knows Cross Poison, which was only able to be learned through breeding in Gen 5 so the fandom likes to portray Emmet with like 1000 Joltik all the time lol

There actually *are* tangible rewards besides BP for maintaining long streaks in the Battle Subway, and it's been somewhat of a staple in the series: you can get rare items for doing well in the battle facilities, and I'm not talking about stuff you buy with BP. For example, Chuggaa just missed out on getting *3 PP Ups* in this episode because he didn't talk to the people at the stops between streaks of seven! *That's right, you get a PP Up every time you get a streak of 21 in the Battle Subway!* That's where the regular trains stop (and giving you such an important item for optimizing competitive teams for completing the easier trains was totally on purpose), but the Super Trains keep going! What rewards do you get for continuing on the harder trains?
- *At 28 wins, you get a Rare Candy!* Nice! You're probably going to have a lot of these and a lot of PP Ups by the time you're done with getting the next reward...
- Beat the Subway Boss? Great! *Aim for 105 wins and you'll get an extremely rare Lansat Berry!* This berry is traditionally only obtainable from doing well in Battle Facilities (There are other ways to get it and the next reward in SwSh, BDSP, and SV however)
- Still going after getting over 100 wins? *Aim for 203 to get the even rarer Starf Berry!* 200+ wins in battle facilities is no joke though! They will do everything in their power to end your streak! If you earned this berry from a battle facility, be proud! This is a *hard* achievement!
Now, does anyone care about those berries to obtain them for competitive purposes? Eeeeeeeeehhhhhh...not really. They're very mediocre pinch berries that raise your critical hit ratio (Lansat) or a random stat by +2 (Starf). They aren't features in consistent competitive strategies, so the berries are basically just glorified trophies to show that you've mastered Pokemon's battle system. They are very nice trophies though.
And I guess you get actual trophies in your house too for beating the Subway Bosses on the Super Trains. That's pretty cool.

In this episode Chugga undergoes back breaking labor so that he can redeem himself and get to ride the train to the end and, more importantly, get more medals. Hope your back continuers to get better Chugga.

Can’t help but admire your resilience in wanting to defeat the subway bosses. I defeated them in doubles, and just getting to them is haaaaaard. But defeating them is a whole different ballgame depending on what Pokémon you decided to bring. Also, really like that they have Alder’s theme, makes sense as they’re basically the champions of the battle subway. Well done!
You know, I totally forgot that Ingo and Emmet used Alder's theme from the first Black and White.

You have no need to apologize for setting something right that was upsetting you. None at all. You gave us a video while in _hospital-worthy pain,_ you have NOTHING to apologize for!
Also fun fact, Emmet IS smiling in that little sprite at the end! In more detailed depictions, he's shown as always smiling, just like Ingo is always serious and frowning. They're nice opposites that way.

In ORAS and S/M, I have made a Battle Subway recreation team (though not statwise sadly). It gave me a lot of appreciation for these teams.
Fun fact: in Pokemon Masters, Ingo is given Excadrill and Emmet is given Archeops, meanwhile in the anime Ingo has Chandelure and Emmet has Eelektross
The Battle Subway is a fun version of the (up until recently) staple Battle Tower. The way the music slowly adds instruments the higher in your 7-win streak you are is a nice touch. Ingo and Emmet were just kinda whatever at the time, but insert a more modern game spoiler here.
While somewhat unlikely, you could attempt to beat the multi-train bosses on your first visit. The trainer's don't use all that strong of mons early on, and when things finally begins to ramp up, you've got your competent partner as back-up. That, and you've got a small selection of fully-evolved mons at your disposal even this early in the game. Azumarill, Leavanny, Crobat or Lucario (if you grind friendship), Sigilyph, the Eeveelutions, etc. They may not have the strongest of movesets, but their bulk will get you through the earlier battles no problem. Yeah, the PWT is a bit faster, but you unlock this earlier.
Honnestly, isnt Ingo causing a time paradox? He is in Legends Arceus, wonder if that is mentioned in a remake later on…

Man, I grinded the Battle Subway CONSTANTLY towards the end of last semester. Between classes, car rides, in bed. Even in the casino where I submitted my storyboarding final exactly one minute before it was due.
Probably the goofiest nostalgia I've ever had for a battle facility.
Emile, the remaining Pokemon are fishing encounters which is what you're missing for the Habitat List for Pinwheel Forest
An interesting fact about Ingo is that aside from him returning in legends arceus, in the manga he had an Accelgor as a partner, while in the games in between all of his rotating teams, he does not ever have an Accelgor in them.

I vividly remember Rosa's Darmanitan using Flame Charge on my Chandelure to activate Flash Fire, which powered up Heat Wave.

Pignati, Entry Log 89: Well, the last time we did this thing went horribly. I can understand Blaise being the uh… completionist she is. Desired to give these subway battles one more go. This time everything clicked and we got to meet the subway bosses Emmet and Ingo again. It was nice to see these guys in their element and get to fight on their terms.
Blaise successfully fights and beats them on all three train types. Earning herself quite the rare title of having bested them in every way possible. I hear they can go harder but Blaise found that the rewards were minimal and she already got what she wanted from the subway battles. Still, these guys are indeed something else.
McFly, Entry Log 84: I guess we were having an off day before the last time we tried. Blaise had us go back to the Nimbasa Subway to both conquer it and get enough Battle Points to get Harmony a much-needed upgrade in the Life Orb. A powerful man-made item that amps the power of any move used by 30% at the drawback of being drained of your health a little with every use.
But with Harmony’s Wonder Guard ability, she can ignore the recoil damage and enjoy the benefit without any worries. It’s a small multi-shaded orb colored in layers of pink that gets darker the deeper you go with a strange orange ring near the middle. Not quite sure how this thing works but my guess is that it draws upon the wearer’s infinity energy to force out more power into the attacks. Most pokémon suffer recoil from the strain unless you have a special ability to ignore such a thing. Harmony sure is lucky.
Aiden, Entry Log 79: Nothing but fighting today. Blaise went back to the subway battles feeling extra bitter about how they went last time. Well, I cannot deny I felt much the same. At least now we can be satisfied with the results, beating the subway challenges not once but three times. Emmet and Ingo were strong opponents but we didn’t falter and bested them both twice. Yet another set of powerful trainers bested by the newest Pokémon Champion of Unova. All I can say is that I hope we continue to face off against such worthy foes. Even though it does feel like with each bested we will find fewer people who will be able to challenge us in the future. I suppose only time will tell.
Jade, Entry Log 72: Woo yeah! This was much better! I got to shined far better today than the last couple of super tough battles. Not that getting to Emmet and Ingo was cakewalks though. So many powerful trainers on these trains it’s pretty insane. Plus, I feel as if they’ve all mastered the art of accuracy and critical hits. Well regardless we fought against the odds and won. Now we go explore Pignati’s home without any regrets!
Harmony, Entry Log 63: Well goodbye Flame Orb and hello Life Orb! Blaise and the others had to work very hard to get this for me. I contributed the best I could but wow! I’m getting the much-needed attack boost I’ve been needing for a while now. I’ve been ignoring my lack of power for a while now since I knew there was no use in complaining. But now, I don’t have to worry about that anymore! From now on I should be able to kick all sorts of butts! Thank you, Blaise, thank you, team!
Lasagna, Entry Log 31: Fighting on a train has got to be the weirdest sensation I have ever gone through, yes it was. The train bounced and wobbled with every attack and yet everyone in the train was as solid as a rock or at the very least refused to move or be damaged, they did. The floor was also not friendly to my legs, my poor things. Still getting to fight inside of it was an experience I will never forget and for good reasons, yep yep. Despite how awkward it was I found myself having lots of fun getting to learn how to fight in such a weird and tight space, indeed indeed. I wonder if we’ll ever fight in something as unique as that again?

There are hint medals that also made an appearance (albeit with different, but effectively the same, names) in a certain rom hack that I myself (and dare I say werster) have fallen in love with. I was able to get all of those missions done with only *_nine_* hall of fame entries. Granted, the rom hack has the fairy mission this doesn't, but it has an improved roster as a tradeoff. It should be technically possible to do all the HOF related medals in these games with only nine HOF entries, and I do not think Johnstone did exactly this, or at least I don't recall exactly how many HOF entries it took him to get all of those medals.
I always liked how they split this game's battle facility into normal and "Super" categories. Normal can be done with in-game teams, though as you've seen it can be difficult. Super generally requires EV Trained teams. But by splitting it, you can go straight to the challenging fights without having to worry about slogging through 1-3 rounds of unevolved Pokemon every time you lose (a problem I had with earlier battle facilities).
I don't think I ever reached the Super Subway Bosses, but there's a few team strategies that make these easier. You generally want a stat-boosting sweeper with Substitute, the Sub is an anti-hax precaution against crits and status because if you don't do that you WILL lose to bad luck eventually. I forget if this was the gen where the AI got wise to the Uxie Trick Choice Scarf Memento strategy and actually switches out, it might have. But I hear Entrainment Truant Duarant works well here. (Give an enemy Truant, switch to someone with Protect and a stat boosting move, sweep)
Man, this day’s been alright, but it got so much better after Indigo Disk dropped and I caught a shiny Trapinch! I think Ill end today on Chuggaa’s vid. Seems just right.

I find the Subway Bosses kinda funny, mostly because of Ingo's reappearance in a certain other game. Turns out they've always been extremely popular among girls in Japan.
For the people wondering, you technically never have to go into Super Singles or Super Doubles trains to earn all medals. The only reward you get is an upgrade on your trainer medal.

Fun fact about the last episode:Emile getting angry at Simiseer for outspending Electivier and Sigilyth is somewhat unjustified. Turns out Simiseer is naturally faster than both, albeit slightly. Even if their speed was at the max, it would be doomed for them to be outsped.

I used to think Ingo was a dimension traveler from Zelda Ocarina ot Time only he shaved his Luigi mustache and dressed more fabulously. But I guess I was kinda right given his appearance in Legends Arceus. Though he sadly has no relation to Ingo from OOT. But that would technically make him older than Emmett by quite a bit.

There are actually reasons to go through the super subways. Once you get far enough, some of the random NPCs on the station platforms will start giving you exceedingly rare berries, such as the Starf Berry. As far as I know, there is no other way to obtain these in a legitimate fashion in these games.

Because 1) Ingo and Emmett are cool because trains are awesome and I like how they talk. but 2) Chuggaa mentioned Salty Bet which is goated and a wonderful thing to put on to watch with your friends while you eat a pizza.

Btw, in my own play through of White 2, I just evolved my Growlithe into Arcanine because it reached level 49. Yes, I did grind that. Plus I just caught my last team member in a Water Absorb Frillish!

in fact they should have a pool of 6 Pokémon they can choose from, this will be better shown in the PWT where every trainer has 6 they can choose, and will always choose those same Pokémon in triple/rotation battles
There is actually a reward for beating the 49th battle in the Super Trains, you get a trophy in your house in Aspertia City for each of the 3 subway bosses you defeat!
You really don't have to do this it takes forever and the trainers start bringing legendaries, it gets ridiculous and frustrating as hell
For anyone who does want to, I would strongly recommend using an rain team with Drizzle Politoed, Swift Swim Kingdra and a strong Thunder user for the Double and Multi Battle (Using a second DS) Trains, takes a bit to grind up but makes the subway a LOT easier.
Trust me Emile I tend to have the same problem with stories as well since my mum tends to remind me that I've told her the same story numerous times 😅
5:50 i can't believe they put culex mario rpg in pokemon
The dumbest pokemon I ever encountered on battle subway was a Meganium with grass whistle, substitute, rest and double team. It has no way to do damage to you at all or lower your stats, the only thing it can do to you is lower your PP and put you to sleep for a few turns, and the sleep turns just means you lose PP more slowly. It just becomes a never-ending battle until Meganium runs out of rest PP and/or you get lucky to hit through +6 double team.
