Peter Aerts always seemed to have Schilt's number, he was one of the rare few fighters who was able to close the gap to Schilt and keep fighting on the inside. Truly impressive if you ask me
@@ktothec24 I believe Schilt has amazing stamina (according to his size), however Schilt's stamina only allows him to fight in his own pace: He needs to rest and catch a breath between punches/kicks/knees. Aerts knew it so he didn't give Schilt a chance.

I never been fan of Semmy's fighting style but I always liked him as an athlete. Peter Aerts on other hand is one of my favourites kickboxers I've ever watched, Lumberjack Pete I used to call him, learn my lowkicks from watching his fights!

His fighting style was ugly and not spectacular. Little bit like Klitschko in boxing. Focused on the easiest, effective way to end the match and repeat this. Stiff jab and 1-2 combo

It's 20 cm and roughly 20 kilo but yeah. Semmy is a big, big man. I saw him stepping of his motorbike once. That's one impressive sight with those big boots, all dressed up in leather with padding and that helmet on.. :)
The commentary has me rolling. "He's a nasty fighter, Schilt. He'll send a "Get well" letter to a hypochondriac just for fun!" This is exactly the kind of wacky, hilarious comments that UFC fights have always been missing.
You can also make a top 10 or more and ad these fighters to the list too .. Badr hari , ramon dekkers , Rob Kaman , Andy Souwer , Tryone Spong , and the list goes on .. Brian pieters , Nieky Holzken .. all world champions or K1 champions ;-)

Schilt would have destroyed him if he was a better boxer. A good big man has to have the jab and uppercut down to a science, and this guy didn't. That being said, Aerts totally deserved this win! He really went after it and gave no quarter. Legendary Warrior!
I remember watching this Grand Prix and really wanting Overeem to win. I figured he would HAVE to face Schilt in the finals. So I was actively hoping that Overeem would win his fights easily and take no damage, and that Schilt would have wars on the way to the finals...so that in the final match Overeem would have the best chance possible to defeat Schilt. Little did I know that Aerts would give him SUCH a good fight that he would actually defeat him! So impressive!

That's an opinion but I feel many legends wouldnt consider him the best. He used his size smart but technique wise and pure skill there are a few that were bettet than him.
it is clear that they are brothers from the same state, Semmy Schilt, he could have won the match but he didn't. He just reflected the attacks! Peter Aerts was the force at the end, it was a gesture of the warrior Semmy Schilt, he gave the victory to his role model.
Peter is smaller almost 30 cm and lighter with 30 kg...huge phisically advantage for Schilt and Peter fighting strategy was great....and His fighting spirit unbelievable! For Me, Schilt not was a great fighter because of His size what protect Him in many fights...because fighters who make pressure on Him beat Him like Peter Aerts or Badr Hari.Respect for Schilt...but if He has the hight and weight of Aerts I don't think that He had that succes. Anyway, I miss this K-1 golden era

Моё почтение Петеру за то, как он вскрыл оборону Кинг Конга. Шилт всегда разбивал оппонентов на своей дистанции, просто не позволяя им хоть как-то приблизиться к себе. Шилт со своим умением грамотно пользоваться своими габаритами был почти неуязвим, а его голова была вообще вне досягаемости. А тут Петер с куда более низким ростом и более короткими руками буквально врывался на дистанцию удара и колотил по голове раз за разом. Победить Шилта, всё равно что победить дракона. Какой же Петруха многогранный боец.
I love Peter Aerts but Semmy really makes doing damage look effortless due to how big and slow he appears. Aerts definitely out scored him and won, but his face seemed to take way more damage. Semmy also absorbs damage very well and didn't seem to show signs of getting hurt much. Especially with those really fast heavy leg kicks Aerts threw the whole match. The curse of being the bigger guy is that everyone wants to see you get taken down and your talent gets disregarded as a natural born gift. Because we're conditioned to believe that he SHOULD win. I think they're both outstanding fighters and you gotta give em both credit. It's the Guts and determination of Aerts that makes him great. He's truly fearless.

I always thought schilt froze up fighting aerts somewhat. Maybe schilt gave him too much respect because aerts was someone he looked up to

Моё почтение Петеру за то, как он вскрыл оборону Кинг Конга. Шилт всегда разбивал оппонентов на своей дистанции, просто не позволяя им хоть как-то приблизиться к себе. Шилт со своим умением грамотно пользоваться своими габаритами был почти неуязвим, а его голова была вообще вне досягаемости. А тут Петер с куда более низким ростом и более короткими руками буквально врывался на дистанцию удара и колотил по голове раз за разом. Победить Шилта, всё равно что победить дракона. Какой же Петруха многогранный боец.

I love Peter Aerts but Semmy really makes doing damage look effortless due to how big and slow he appears. Aerts definitely out scored him and won, but his face seemed to take way more damage. Semmy also absorbs damage very well and didn't seem to show signs of getting hurt much. Especially with those really fast heavy leg kicks Aerts threw the whole match. The curse of being the bigger guy is that everyone wants to see you get taken down and your talent gets disregarded as a natural born gift. Because we're conditioned to believe that he SHOULD win.
I think they're both outstanding fighters and you gotta give em both credit. It's the Guts and determination of Aerts that makes him great. He's truly fearless.
