If it makes you feel better (in a good way not being mean) in Japan, Optimus Prime is live and well. The owners of Transformers did not like how hasbro marvel did things.
Optimus is aka Convoy Godginrai and he joined with a human soul to become Fire Guts Godginrai or "Super Saiyan Power Master Optimus Prime"
And in Japan, Optimus was Optronix in the past, not Orion Pax.
I hope this helps, I love the Japanese canon of transformers, I literally bought the toy Fire Guts Godginrai over 20 years ago.

I feel your pain. This movie was released on my 9th birthday and I was so excited, only to have my heart ripped out with not only Prime, but Brawn, Prowl, Ratchet, Iron Hide, Windcharger and Wheeljack all confirmed dead. As an adult, I appreciate and love this movie very much. But as a boy, I was absolutely furious and wouldn't watch the third season until they brought Optimus back. To this day, I still don't know what Hasbro/Marvel was thinking. I know the idea was trying to push the Gen 3 toys, but to do it in this fashion was absolutely idiotic.

    "Prime!"
"One shall stand, one shall fall."
"Why throw away your life so recklessly?"
"That's a question you should ask yourself, Megatron."
Fun Fact: The Blu-Ray special edition of this movie features an audio commentary by Nelson Shin (director), Flint Dille (story consultant), and Susan Blu (voice of Arcee).
Final Bow Fact: This was Orson Welles' final film before his death on October 10, 1985 at the age of 70. He recorded his lines five days prior, on October 5. This was Scatman Crothers' final film before his death on November 22, 1986 at age 76.
Final Countdown Fact: At the movie's beginning, when the Autobots are taking off on their ship, Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) orders Cliffjumper for a countdown. Cliffjumper was voiced by Casey Kasem, who was the host of America's Top 40 Countdown for many years. This was obviously a little joke added by the writers, considering we didn't need to hear a shuttle countdown, and any character could have done this.
Arcee's Journey Facts: One of the original demands of the Transformers toyline and cartoon series was that no female Transformers could appear, as the toys were marketed strictly towards boys. However, writer Ron Friedman fought hard to include female robots in the Transformers lore, as his daughter was a huge fan of the franchise. This led to the creation of Arcee (Susan Blu), a female Autobot debuting in this movie, as well as a number of other female characters introduced during season 2 of The Transformers (1984). Ironically, despite being one of the movie's feature characters, no toy of Arcee was produced during the entirety of the original Transformers line, though at least one rejected prototype was designed. Arcee became the most famous female character in the Transformers brand and numerous incarnations of her appeared in various other cartoons, comics, movies and toy series, but it was only in 2014, 28 years after her introduction, that Hasbro finally released a toy based on this movie's design.

The other female autobots introduced included Elita One, Moonracer, Firestar, and Chromia. More were added later. Elita One being the leader of the Cybertron resistance against Shockwave created an interesting parallel with Optimus vs Megatron on Earth.

The jerkoffs over at Hasbro thought it was a good idea to kill off Optimus Prime. You were born in the 80’s so you were around, but it caused a huge backlash that not even the adults could’ve realized. To compound that, they killed off characters that were everyday regulars all in 3 mins during the shuttle hijack. But they do bring him back, but by that time, Hasbro nailed their own coffin as the popularity of the show began to wane off.

    • @3Rayfire
      @3Rayfire 8 месяцев назад +7

      For a time...
In its own way though, it ended up being a...not a good decision, it was a winner of the Trojan Enz Boner of the Year award, but it also cemented Transformers status as an iconic franchise. If they hadn't killed Optimus Prime, they never would've known just how big what they had in their hands was. While we all joke about the fact that we were quite traumatized by this film, it proves just how beloved Transformers really was. They did the wrong thing for the wrong reason but it still had a good outcome.

Yes, & the 1986 movie is also (informally) credited with being the movie that made it all right to show actual violence in cartoons. Remember, this came out in the same Era as things like He-Man & She-Ra. Shows where all of the violence was done off-screen, & anytime you saw a bad grunt get taken out it was all right because they were a robot & didn't actually die because you had the heads still talking as their buddy is carrying it away.

    Good reaction!
About the Matrix apparently finding its chosen one in Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime, there are actually hints of this earlier on.
    - When Optimus drops the Matrix and Hot Rod catches it, it gives off a brightly glowing aura in Hot Rod's hands.
    - Also, when the Autobots first discuss Unicron after he eats Cybertron's moons, Hot Rod mentioned he "had a feeling" the Matrix could stop him.
    - And finally, when Unicron orders Galvatron to destroy Hot Rod while both are in his belly, there's almost a sense of desperation in Unicron's voice, as if he also had a feeling about Hot Rod.

When the movie originally came out, the commercials said you had to see it twice to take it all in; I did. One of the DVD/Blu ray sets (the one with the hologram cover, to be precise), had an Easter Egg documentary on the film & the reaction to it. Both Hasbro & Sunbow studios got death threats. The backlash to Optimus' Primes death was the reason Duke wasn't chilled off in the GI Joe animated flick sometime later. With Duke instead being put into his 3rd or 4th coma. I've always said that Optimus' death also marked the death of that studio, they just didn't know it at the time. Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime who was supposed to replace Optimus simply didn't take, since everyone blamed him for Primes death even more then they did Megatron. They eventually brought back Optimus, but the damage was done. Sunbow Studios closed shop not long after. I had a couple of the toys that were killed off in the film, specifically Blue Streak & Brawn. Boy was I pissed. I never counted how many Autobots & Decepticons were killed off, but I'm pretty sure I could get sloshed if I were to make a drinking game out of it.
A lot of voices were in the film (Leonard Nimoy, Robert Stack, Orson Wells, Judd Nelson, to name a few). The music was well done. I still have the Soundtracks. Say what you will about the 80s, but their (movie) music was inspiring.

  • @3Rayfire

This film was one of the biggest lore dumps in franchise history. The UK Marvel Comics originated the idea of Optimus carrying around a Creation Matrix that granted life to robots. Over the years the story settled as this. There was a god like entity only known as The One who stumbled upon the universe shortly after the Big Bang. Two enter and explore the universe he divided himself into two, two beings that would call themselves Primus and Unicron. Primus basically retained The One's personality and characteristics, while Unicron became twisted. Primus was eager to see what this new universe had to offer, but Unicron was disgusted by everything he saw and wanted to return to the nothingness. So he and Primus began to fight. They fought for eons. At one point Primus and Unicron shifted to the astral plane to have their battle, when they shifted back Primus tricked him, and they both materialized inside of lifeless planets where they were trapped. Primus began to rework the planet he inhabited and over time it became Cybertron. Unicron did the same thing, but rather than create a living world he created a death world.
Primus not wanting to draw Unicron's attention chose to sleep and created the First Primes to be his workers to conduct the work of exploring the Universe. Unicron in the meantime searched the Universe for Primus so he could kill him and along the way he eats everything in his path. According to the Transformers in their multiverse (the Cyberverse) Unicron(s) has eaten about a quarter of all timelines and universes.
So Primus is the Transformers god and Unicron is their Devil. The Matrix itself is a piece of Primus' Spark, his living soul. All Transformers get their Spark from Primus. All Sparks return to Primus when they die. And one day, all Cybertronians will pass away and their sparks will return to his, and all will be one.

In regards to Orson Wells, Flint Dille, one of the folks who helped make this movie, said in the 2006 DVD commentary that it was ironic that Orson was going to play the role of a planet, and he the size of the planet (Orson was morbidly obese at this time), and Nelson Shin also said that when Orson recorded his lines, they had to enhance it electronically, because Orson was wheezing and raspy (he needed an oxygen tank, with an oxygen mask on his face at this point), and a few weeks later, Orson died from organ failures.
As for Rodimus Prime, I did not see the movie until like very late August of that year, and I saw the tv ads for the movie, where the narrator says "Will Prime die?" and the next commercial was of the new toys of the characters of this movie, and the narrator said, "Introducing Rodimus Prime, the new leader of the Autobots!", and I said to myself, "I guess Optimus does die", and the death did not bother me. Also, I feel I am in the small minority who PREFERRED Rodimus over Optimus. Optimus felt too perfect, borderline male Mary Sue, or a Gary Stu as they are sometimes called. And I LIKE how characters did die in this one......even as a kid, it drove me BONKERS seeing characters NEVER dying in the battles....silly cartoon censorship in the west.....probably why I liked animes from Japan.
Unicron, orginally, was going to have more organic innards....veins, organs, etc, inside the metal body (the early 2000's armada series did do that), and the battle of Autobot city was more epic looking....as seen in the original trailer. ruclips.net/video/EAKMjhJXSV0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/1c3sY1EKkTA/видео.html
And I prefer Unicron without the beard.
You might like 80's anime series, "Machine Robo".

The whole point was to get the transformers to their darkest hour
Which meant losing prime, and having the next generation have to face the literal robot boogeyman (Unicron)
The entity of death of itself.
Also having the other characters killed off made the stakes higher, made the action more tense
And gave it a gravity that elevated it to being more than the typical 80's cheese series.
Real consequences, real stakes, out of this world performances by the original VA voice cast, and a higher quality script.
Megatron vs Prime from this film is still the standard of final confrontations seen in animated history.

Many cartoons in the 80s were simply half-hour ads for toy lines. Merchandising was the whole point of Transformers. The movie was all about introducing a new line of toys, so the first act is just killing off the old characters so kids would buy the new ones. The executives really misread the room, completely ignorant of the emotional investment we had in the universe and characters. Kids were leaving movie theatres traumatised at seeing swathes of their favourite characters being slaughtered. After massive backlash, they had to reintroduce Optimus Prime in the cartoons.

No. You were right. There was a city playset. Following the movie there was Metroplex and the Decepticons had Trypticon. A year later the Autobots had Fortress Maximus and the Decepticons got Scorponok.
Soundblaster came way later. Soundwave and Blaster killed each other, like Megatron and Prime did, then were rebuilt into Soundblaster and Twincast.

Hasbro intended this to be a method of retiring old characters and bringing in new ones. They did not realize how much the fanbase would object to killing Optimus Prime.
He was brought back in both the comic and the animated series after Hasbro realized they couldn't simply kill off the character without losing a great many of the fans.

I think you'll like Beast Wars. Also, Japan had 3 sequels to the original 1980s cartoon, HEAD MASTERS, MASTER FORCE, and VICTORY. There was also 4th one, but was one a single episode called ZONE.
    In order:
G1 season 1-3 (Japanese ignored the 3 episodes that made the 4th season in the us, called 'the rebirth', it was not that good)
    Head Masters
    Master Force
    Victory
    Zone
    Beast Wars season 1
Beast Wars Second (The japanese made 2 filler seasons....they loved beast wars a lot, and were stuck waiting for season 2 and 3 to come out, and so made 2 exclusive series)
    Beast Wars season 2
    Beast Wars season 3
Beast Wars Neo (It essentially ended the original Generation 1 era)
Beast Machines (it's controversial, like the sequel trilogy of Star Wars.....a lot of character personalities were changed a lot, and a lot of folks, myself includes, did not like that, nor the character redesigns, and the toys were so out of scale with each other...it's up to you if you wanna see this one or not.)
Transformers 2000 Carobots/Robots in Disguise is a sorta singular series, like the JJ star trek movies.

Actually if you rewind to the part that Optimus gives the Matrix to Magnus, it falls and Hot Rod catches it, you can see it glowing, a sign that the Matrix found its new bearer, so if Magnus catched it, he would've become a Prime

    • @johnpooky84
      @johnpooky84 2 месяца назад +1

To be fair, it's not really clear whether the first Autobot that touches the Matrix, after it's been passed, is the new Prime, or whether the Matrix itself chooses.
Ultra Magnus said he wasn't worthy to receive the Matrix. Optimus said he wasn't worthy, either, when it was passed to him. Hot Rod, if you watch carefully, displays several leadership qualities that he was probably unaware of, even before he caught the Matrix. Afterwards, those qualities were amplified, and he still wasn't aware of it.
It would've been interesting to have had Ultra Magnus catch the Matrix, but still not be able to use it. That would've made the big reveal even BIGGER.

Optimus prime returns in season3 generation 1 of the cartoon

  • @derrickhuerta

This movie was a transition that Hasbro did to advance from G1 to G2. In order to put the new generation in, they had to remove some of the old transformers. They chose the ones that didn't do well in sales and had them killed in battle. Optimus and Megatron were a different story. They were written to have had one more fight against each other to the death. Megatron was given the path of reformation into Galvatron as Optimus dies from too heavy injuries. The scene of his death caused such an uprising backlash from the parents. The kids saw Optimus as a true hero figure at the time and when he died, every child in the theater cried. Parents complained to Hasbro and as a result, had to bring Optimus back not once, but twice. Once by the Quintessence(five head robot) to kill the Autobots. And again by the same aliens in order to help save the universe from a madness plague.

It wasn't G2. All this is still considered G1 because it was a continuation of the series and many of the old characters stayed in the series for season 3 with the new ones replacing those who died. It was the beginning of the end of G1 in the U.S. (it continued for another like 4 years in Japan) as the series only lasted one season more and then had the small 3-part "rebirth" storyline with the creation of the Headmasters...which was it's own separate thing in the U.S., Japan's continuity jumped right from season 3 to season 4 where they included the Headmasters and didn't bother with their origin story.

None of these people will actually feel or understand transformers the movie. For these you have to be from the 80, watch as a kid all seasons every day, every weekend and look at a cartoon character like Optimus prime, as a real counselor or second dad for us. What the author wanted to transmit to us through these characters. Than watch after some years your hero and friend die, was heartbreaking and shocking. You won't ever understand these. All these reactions arent genuine with all respect. It seems something silly because it's a cartoon but it really got deep in our hearts. Your a teenager perhaps that never saw the cartoons as a kid and followed with passion. The context is very but very different. Todays movies are a joke for most of us and the robots too.

It’s sad that Hasbro committed a complete massacre on the G1 Transformers just to sell some new toys. Scared a whole generation of kids. What the writers should have done is while Unicron does his upgrade to the decepticons , they could have introduced Primus and have him upgrade the Autobots . This would have given Hasbro their toys and saved a lot of kids seeing their dad die.

    @mparkes1821 9 дней назад

lol you’re far too young to remember the original transformers.😂 To answer a few questions, Unicron originally was an energy god like being existing on an astral plane and his nemesis was another god called Primus, due to endless eons of war ending in stalemate Primus use§d his powers to materialise them both into the physical world and trapped themselves into space junk/asteroids. Unicron remade his physical prison into the robotic planet seen here and Primus turned himself into Cybertron and knowing that the day would come when Unicron would return he populated himself with Cybertronians with the ability to transform like Unicron, Primus life force was placed into the Matrix and is held by the Autobot leader and holds mystical powers which included upgrading Hotrod into Rodimus Prime, Optimus when he received the Matrix did not get upgraded physically although it was depicted in the cartoon that Optimus used to be a lesser bot called Orion Pax who when Megatron first rallied the Decepticons at the beginning of the Cybertronian war, Pax was damaged and rebuilt by Autobot elder Alpha Trion into Optimus Prime who at some point gained the Matrix in order to lead the Autobot forces. Yes Prime does get ressurected in Season 3 and 4 of the cartoon which chronologically follow this movie, it’s confusing as Season 1 and Season 2 and the Marvel comic are set in present day 80’s, this movie jumps the timeline to 2005 with season 3 jumping to 2010, now Prime also dies in the comic but in a completely different way in the 850’s but this is because they discontinued his toy in 1986 and brought out a new version in 1988 called Powermaster Optimus Prime which was depicted in the comic. In this movie Prime is still his original self and is wrote out of the cartoon for a bit but gets ressurected as his same original self. Season 4 which only has 3 episodes came out in 1987 before the new toy and was the last season of the cartoon, if it had continued would Prime have gotten an upgrade, who knows. Meanwhile in Japan, they decided to continue the cartoon which integrated characters from the movie and season 3 into their story and introduced characters based on the toys released in 87 called headmasters and target masters. 1988 saw Powermasters and Pretenders in western markets and Godmasters and Pretenders in Japan, by this time Japans characters and story was completely different to what was released in US and Europe. Powermaster Optimus Prime was named Super Ginrai in Japan and was not Prime it was a lifeless automaton resembling Prime and Ginrai was a human truck driver who controlled the bot like a pilot. While many concepts are shared between the multiple versions of transformers, the live action movies are a separate entity to the original cartoon despite sharing characters, concepts and some lore. At the time of the live action movie releases 2007 onwards a new cartoon was due to be aired from 2010 called Transformers Prime and a few years later there were 2 video games called War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron which explored the war before coming to earth, Hasbro who make the toys jointly with Takara in Japan decided to link these into one continuity named as the Aligned Continuity, this also included the Nickelodeon pre school cartoon called Rescue Bots but it didn’t really work. Now Beastwars was the re imagining of Transformers after the original Generation 1 and Generation 2 and was released in 1996 and was eventually linked into the G1 continuity, every show after Beast Machines, the continuation of Beastwars in 1999 has generally been separate entities. Beastwars characters and lore was revisited in toy form recently a couple of years ago with a toy line called War for Cybertron, not to be confused with the video game mentioned earlier. WFC was a trilogy formed of Siege, Earthrise and Kingdom and got its own Netflix series. Beastwars characters were included in the Kingdom portion and then soon after in the Live action rise of the beasts movie.
