Roll up jeans in drawer?!! Never thought of it, but I like it. Thanks, Erin. On your gap year....that's terrific! You will make the best memories with your kids. We lived in The outback of Australia for two years when our kids were 5, 7, and 9. One of the best decisions we ever made. We homeschooled and did INCREDIBLE field trips! I'm excited for you!

As a person that loves prints, when sorting by color, I have a prints section. If the blouse is mostly one color then it goes in that color, if it is all over print, floral or colors it goes in the print section. (My favorite section!)

Excellent tips! At one point in redoing my closet I had about 500 velvet hangers in my shopping cart on Amazon. Then I watched a RUclips video and they mentioned why they don't like velvet hangers and I had an aha moment 🤗. I don't want to fiddle with getting shirts on hangers smoothly and the hanger part facing the right way. I've kept my plastic swivel head hangers and love them. They slide on closet rails easily, have slots for Camis, shirts shoulders go on smoothly and easily, and the head turns the right way no matter how you put the garment on. Now I must go roll my drawer of tshirts like your jeans so I can actually tell what I have in there. PS. BLack-ROYGBIV-white is how I color organize.

TIP for hanging watches, bracelets,, etc . . . fasten a few dowels on top of your closet shelf so that the dowels extend out from the shelf about 8" (the space between the edge of the shelf and where the closet door will close). Slip your costume jewelry onto the dowels.

Erin, I use the clear plastic hangers in my closet too. Container Store has these non-slip foam hanger strips you can stick to the hangers and your tops will not slide off. Love them!

Those are the BEST hangers! They help with the shoulders not to have those points you get with regular hangers. Since I don't have drawer space for jeans and I am seriously out of room to hang my jeans, I'm using a hanging skinny shoe rack and rolling my jeans and sticking them in there. It actually works great for my go to jeans! I'm getting to the point that I'm going to have to kick my husband out of his office and turn that room into my closet. Hmmmm......

The best thing I ever did was purchase the slim lined hangers, and organise by type, then colour......so easy to find things now. Although I do have difficulty curating an outfit still, and my bff actually puts outfits together in her closet and it works for her. Thanks for sharing. I need the boot shapers for sure, always a work in progress for me lol.

I would highly reccomend a slide out valet rod. I also have a slide out belt rod. I do quite a few of these tips already, but really had never thought of putting my jeans in a drawer folded like that. WoW you get so many more in and you can see them all. lol Thanks for sharing, Erin

  • @valfletcher9285

    1) I LOVE those hangers because I hang most of my clothes to dry and these are excellent for doing this too - 2) I LOVE your comments about HOW and WHY we become "attached" to our clothes. I also believe the reason I taught my children that it was just WRONG to throw clothes on the ground, was that not only is it disrespectful to people, it is disrespectful for garments such as a winter coat that kept you warm - overall, EACH in this series is worthy! Great info, thank you, Erin. I LOVE the personal insight into your past, as well. No wonder you are of such character and it shines through.

Wow it is great though it is 2021 as I am watching this. I got the matching thin hangers. I have hangers similar super thinnest I have found. Have used shower curtain holders and make things verticle. I do color coding but within that, I put the blazer first and always another basic item in doing for each color. I put patternss last. It just works for me. It has taken me years. I have a stand up chest and put handbags in there and I know handbags are on the shelves. I have drawers for bras with organizers. With not much room in closet bras and undergarments in the under the bed for off season items. And have organizers for them. I also color code jeans too, lol. I love to organize. It is actually fun for me. I use the jewelry organizers when I downsized so using the hanging jewelry organizer that has those clear pockets. I like it so much better than the jewelry chest. If nothing works for keeping some items on even the velvet hangers I gave away as things fell off them anyway. Ponytail holders 2 for each end will help keep those pesky items on the hanger. I also put some hooks on back of closet wall though not much room they are the command hooks and hang some items like too long dresses as I have the bottom of closet with those organizers that have those fabric drawers and labeled them. Just works for me. I also found I could take those dresses that tie at shoulder and put them in hooks in that tiny closet and its amazing what I have in that tiny to me any way closet. So behind the whites I have a hook for those type of casual dresses I can wear all seasons as I can put a sheer light weight blouse or top under them in summer as I dont like my arms but I love the straps and long lean dresses because its a once and done and no I dont forget they are there! I put my shoes in the plastic shoe boxes you buy because after those shoe racks I had in big closet I am done with those things and can get more shoes on the other side of closet where I dont have the drawers for jeans etc. And in reading I decided to not forget outside tiny closet so behind bedroom door I put hooks and that is where my cordinated tops like a long tank type top like with the v shape stripes and other casual things that will go with one top and does not show unless door is closed. And I did several command strips on back of bedroom door and put some causal dresses for all is for no time and need quick every day causal items. I think next time I may try the belt hanging hangers. The chest where my purses are has a hook I can pull out at the side and put what I want to wear for next day when I am organized for what tomorrow will be. Saves time in the am. It's still work in progress to make for me what feels like tiny closet from a huge one in a big house to much smaller but wow so easy to clean place I dearly love. I cant wait to see next video! :-) Yes I would love to see tips for a very tiny closet with sliding doors and just one rod but I have 9 & 10 foot ceilings in them as well for storage containers. .Just have to make sure I label organizers for what is in each one for out of season clothes.

Love all the options!! I now want my closet to look boutique-like as well. So nice to look at. One tip: I store my Halo Couture extensions on a pants hanger (I can adjust the width so that it fits the extensions). Hanging them like this places less stress on the miracle wire, which will hopefully make it last longer, and they are neatly stashed away in my closet.

I am very color focused, so for my multicolor prints, if they are not primarily one major color, they go into my I LOVE PRINTS!! section all together. It is normal for me that picking the print (aka, statement/art/joy) I'm in the mood for starts the process of pulling together the outfit for the day. They are my favorite part of dressing, so they are at the front of the closet.

TIP: Buy a few hundred rubber strips that fit over the ends of the plastic hangers. Use them for slippery garments or to keep wide necks from slipping off the hangers. Amazon has them: "100 Pcs Clear Non-Slip Rubber Clothes Hanger Grips"
Another TIP: use those cheap clip-on "pant" hangers for hanging up your thin-strapped camisoles. Put each strap over the hanger and then run the strap under the clip and close the clip. Your strappy camisoles are secured and the hangers & straps won't get tangled up with each other.

I just bought 50 skirt hangers for my skirts and strapless jumpsuits/dresses, and after I hung them all up I wished I had all my stuff on these boutique-type hangers. It's a big investment to get organized for someone on my budget (Disabled Veteran), but my father just passed away and I have a little money to spend. I think he'd want me to be organized and happy! 😁

An easy way to make your own non slip hangers is by wrapping rubber bands on the ends of the hanger arms. It stops the garment from slipping off the edge.

Great video Erin, so helpful even for someone who already likes to organize lol! Question though, this always trips me up lol, I also organize by sleeve length and color but my dilemma is if I should organize sleeve length in each color section or do the lengths first and the colors within that? Is that understandable? What I find happening is that if I have a black long sleeve shirt that I put with the black section then my long sleeves aren't altogether... get me? lol I'm sorry I know this may sound stupid but I'm not happy with the overall look of my closet yet... Thank you!

TIP for those of us that don't stay the same size: Do NOT throw away loved BASIC pieces because they are now too big or too small. If your weight varies from 130 to 145+, have two large storage bins where you can "hold" items that are 5lbs out of your current weight. If you weigh 138 lbs, you will have the 135 to 140 range hanging in your closet. In this example, you would have a box filled with clothing that fits best in the 130 to 135 range and another box filled with the 140 to 145 range. If you lose weight, you will swap in the smaller sizes. If you gain weight you will swap in the larger sizes.
