- This monopod is crazy good! And I'm just not saying that. I've dubbed it the "Saturn V Rocket of Monopods". It's modular design allows you to use it in different stages of height giving you incredible versatility in a heap of different shooting scenarios. The Sirui P-424FL monopod tops out at an impressive 1.9 meters in height! So this monopod is not only good for shorter, but taller people as well. Airshows, birds and wildlife, concerts, press conferences, this monopod is built sturdy, yet it's lightweight due to the carbon fibre construction.

Definitely a great monopod. I use regularly now for bird and wildlife photography. But would you believe I use that little table top tripod almost daily for my RUclips videos 🤙🙏

Adrian, another great review video overall. I love your Saturn 5 analogy, its on point. I also enjoyed the pole volt bit at the end, looks like you did that in a previous life. I have Sirui P-326 that I purchased 4 years ago and I use it with my D850/200-500f5.6 kit for birding, as you stated it helps stabilization when waiting for that one bird to take flight. Cheers!

Hi Adrian, oh yes, this looks indeed quite versatile :) I think, especially for wildlife photography it will be a big advantage for you, as you get more stabilization but stay flexible. Really cool!

That’s a great monopod Adrian , I brought one years back and found it more of a hindrance than helping my photography but it wasn’t anything like the Sirui🙂 Great review especially what you can do with it 👍 Those bird shots were absolutely stunning mate 👌 Cheers, Cliff

We must be on the same wavelength. Last time I was interested in lens filters and you made a video about using filters and I purchased the filters you put up. Then I was just thinking about needing a monopod for the upcoming Melbourne airshow in March, plus I’m sick of holding my 200-500mm lens, and I’m taking a lot more video with my d850, and I come here to see if you’ve ever reviewed one… and wella. A monopod like this will be something I think which will last as part of the kit for over a decade. Looks amazing. Thanks for the review. Will look at purchasing in the new year. Thanks again.👍

Interesting review Adrian, not sure I've seen a monopod that has so many functions built in with one product. Particularly interested in the fact you can use the tripod leg section as a super low camera support, something I would love to use other than shooting off a bean bag. Great review mate👍
Cheers Scott. Yeah I agree much better and easier to carry than a bean bag. Plus you can adjust the angle via the ball head. Having 1.9 meter height ability also comes in handy. So many uses for this monopod. Have a great weekend mate, take care 👍🙏
Great monopod, great video. You should pair it with the Wimberley MH-100 gimbal head to make full advantage of monopod shooting, the best thing I have used for birding. Where are you shooting this please?

Thanks for watching. It all boils down to personal preference. I’m tall so I like the 424 better. The 325 is shorter. Either way you’re on a winner with either monopod. Very good quality gear 👍

I have a monopod very similar in design, the only problem I have with them is that when your subject is almost directly above you, the tilting back on the monopod can kill your back and sometimes the foot doesn't even touch the ground anymore, making the monopod useless. So I've slapped on a small ball head at the top of the monopod with the stem in the horizontal groove position (so the lens collar is pointing left instead of down), and I can tilt my camera upwards while keeping the monopod vertical. Then it's a perfect setup
That's the beauty of the quick release system of the P-424FL. If a bird is flying directly above you. you can release fast and get your shot. The monopod stays upright sitting on the tripod base in the meantime. When you're finished, dock it back into monopod.
I have a sirui L20 tilt head on mine. It works a treat.

@@adrianalfordphotography definitely liking this monopod, photos are sharper (although i'm not quite dialed in yet for small birds). i agree that for now it doesn't seem like i need a head for it. this thing is huge though! i wonder if i should have gone one size smaller to make it easier to fly with.

Pole vaulting! Hahahahahah. You'll be up alongside Jimmy Rees in the comedy stakes soon. That seems a very versatile monopod. Ideal for so much. Hmmm . . .might need to update the Christmas wish list. . . . . .

Do you turn the vr off or leave it on with a mono pod?
I’ve tested this. I found no discernible difference if you have it on or off when photographing stationary subjects. Moving subjects however was slightly better with VR on.
