Writing IEP's can be scary, overwhelming, and quite frustrating! I wish that there had been a comprehensive video when I started. The goal of this video is to outline how to write an effective and measureable IEP for your student.
Take note, every state and province is different. Writing an IEP in Massachusetts looks different than in Illinois. Ask your mentor, download an example for your state, view your school districts IEPs. Some are written in an IEP online program, some can be written in a word document. Regardless they are legal documents and must be written well.

Thanks so much I'm a retired home health aide. I say this all the time a IEP is the samething as care plan. Aphasia is expressive and receptive. Strokes, Parkinson's disease, Multiple, head injuries and dementia. And you have to know about growth and development I got no help for my son so thank you so much.
Thank you so much!! I’m a first year teacher and I definitely needed this. This was beyond helpful.
You are wonderful. I feel like I have learned more from you than my college courses.
Thank you very much for taking the time to do this!! I'm about to start my first year teaching and videos like these really help!
I can tell you really care about this subject it really makes listening and learning about this test super easy and clear. Thank you! 💜💙💜
I am going for an interview soon and this was so comprehensive and skill awakening. Your experience shines through....thank you so much!!
I loved this video and it was very informational. I am graduating in December and I have had some practice in writing an IEP, but it was hard to understand. Seeing you walk through and explain each portion helped me understand the process of writing an IEP and prepared me more. I also like how you gave a real example IEP because I have always worked off of case studies and they were hard to pull information from since they were not directed towards writing an IEP. Thank you for the video!
Thank you for uploading! I begin my first Special Education job in August!
Thank you so much. I just started my first year as an ED teacher during covid and I already have four IEPs due. All the time away from school made me feel so ill-prepared and shakey with everything I learned before graduation. This is such a great refresher. So grateful to you.
Thanks so much for this!! First year teacher here. I found it very helpful. Also, thank you for staying late to make this video. :)
I love your videos. I start this fall as a new special education teacher. My first year teaching. Your videos are very helpful.
Omg loved this video please do more ! It’s so helpful !
This video is awesome! Thanks so much for explaining every detail.
Amazing Video! Thank you so much for your help, I have my first Special Ed Interview this week. AHHH!!! wish me luck!!
Thank you so much!!! I’ve been out of school for a year before looking for a job and this was very helpful as an IEP review.
Thank you for this video!! Im a senior in high school thinking about studying special education in collage and this was so helpful to see!!💖😄
I so glad it was helpful! Hopefully we can see you as special education teacher in a few years! It is the best profession!
Thank you so much for this video. It was VERY informative and easy to understand. We will have our eligibility mtg tomorrow to decide if Our 6yo son will receive special services {which he will} and even tho I’m not a special Ed teacher but a COTA & parent, I want to be able to understand how an IEP can be created. Also, u r HILARIOUS! School bldgs can be scary when no one is around hehehe God bless u! 😁
Your inputs are of big help ,thank you🙂
Thank u ma'am. I was confused about IEP when I search Google. But now the real example given was very informative. I am planning to join as a special educator.
I am just about to start teaching in a Special Education class for the 2020-2021school year and IEP writing scares me terribly. I am binge watching all your videos during this pandemic lock down. Thank you for making these videos.
It can be super scary! When you get to your new school there are special things that school might do differently! Hope my videos are helpful!
Nathaniel Hall why would you be pissed, most kids in special ed have shown a need or lack in one or more areas or have a diagnosis from birth. You would be pissed that people were helping access education in a way that is specific to you? Special education isn’t a punishment, I’m having a hard time understanding your question.
Awesome comment! I will also start teaching in a Special Education Class for the 2020-2021 school year in California. I am also scared of IEP’s. How is it going for yourself? Any tips? Good luck
@@christophermarquez3966 I am still pretty nervous especially with everything going on. I have found some pretty good resources such as txr20.escworks.net/catalog/session.aspx?session_id=59186 really quick as easy modules for guidance this is a Texas course so maybe the regional support in your area has one. Then I joined Special Education Teachers Group on Facebook and there is always resources being shared in there. Hope these help you! Good luck also. This is the same person luv2learnify not sure why this log in is different someone must be logged into my computer still oops!
Lamont - Nareka Whitfield wow appreciate the info !
I like that you mention "best practices" this is a very important area!
That was awesome! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this video. Its a big help for me 🤗
Thank you for this information. Extremely helpful! You’re awesome!
You seem like a good teacher I bet your students really love you
Thank you for making the video! very clear and super helpful!!
I take my time and watch your videos! Thank you 🙏
Great video. I needed a walk through such as this
I applied for a para position, and copying an IEP is in the job description. This is super helpful if I do get the job 😀 Being visually impaired, I had an IEP in K-12. I had accommodations in college too. I have an Associates and BA in General Studies.
You can do it!! Good luck!
I have been teaching SPED with a self-contained class in the Philippines for over a decade and I think that his video is extremely helpful for its comprehensiveness. I am also preparing myself to teaching in US. You don't know how much this means to me. Thank you!
Thank you so much! This is a big help!!!
Thank you so much Ma'am, very informative, very interesting, and very comprehensive session,no doubt it's definitely super helpful to me.
Thank you very much for this video. I am a Special Educator from India. Love your work....love you.
Thank you! I needed to write something “in the style of an IEP” and this was very helpful. I essentially got what I needed in the first 3/4 of the video but then I had to stay and make sure the ghost didn’t get you 😂
Thank you for doing this. I am currently in a transition to teaching Special Ed prep course and it is all online and I have not had much instruction on how to write an IEP. Thank you!!!
I’m so glad! Thanks for the kind words! You got this!!!!
love your video. thank you so much for staying at work so late to do this. I did notice you made a new one 3 month ago. Ill need to look at that too. You are cracking me up every time you are looking over your shoulder. LOL maybe it is the animals you are hearing?
Thank you very much~ I need to practice my documentation, and this was super helpful.
glad it was helpful!
That Special Educator You are amazing, Thank you!
Thank you for explaining this. I am currently a junior learning agricultural education. I keep seeing the term IEP everywhere but nothing to ever explain what is on the IEP
This is a big Help ... Thank you so much!
This is amazing. Thank you so much
I am currently in school obtaining my bachelors degree in elementary education and Special Education, I can definitely say this video was really helpful.
I’m so glad! Writing IEPs can be tricky!
How did things end up for you
@@felisha209 every thing worked out wonderfully
Excellent video. Many thanks to you
Thank a lot l am a specialist teacher, teaching blind and visually impaired students from Grade R to 7, this has helped me l can adapt it for my blind and visually impaired learners including the skills appropriate for their conditions. Otherwise a very educative clip, keep it up sharing is caring!
I’m so glad!
You make for a great teacher as you break this down well :)
Thank you for the tips so nice
Thank you very much for this video. I'm applying for Para Educator jobs now. I'm also working towards my teaching certification. I want to teach Social Studies and Art. This is helpful. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
So glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your information. I am a first year special education teacher and needed this straightforward explanation.
If you need any help, please remember to reach out to others with a background in special education or who have been in a SPED position. The paperwork is so intense and can be difficult to understand, so never be afraid to ask for help! You are not alone. Even after 10 years, I still have to ask other people for ideas or suggestions. LOL
@@476233 Thank you!
Love the video!
Olá, adorei as explicações.
Thank youuu. You’re awesome ❤️
Glad it was helpful!
thank you very much this video is very helpful for me. God bless teacher.
Thank you so much to this wonderful and very informative video.
Thank you for this video.. I'm currently working on my teaching certificate and looking forward to working in Special Education. I've been a paraeducator for 3 years. I am now applying to be an IEP Clerk.
*Side Note- On the background of the video you can see a figure between the world map and the fridge.. If you focus on that corner just below the inflated globe you can see some small changes in the video. It be a reflection outside.
Hi thank you so much. I am the one who edited the video and i have never seena figure. It might be something from my class on the wall. I am not sure what youare talking about but thanks for the beginnig of this comment.
Thank you from Jamaica
How do you know what’s an attainable goal for each student? Do you error on the side of too simple of a goal to reach by the end of the year?
Very beneficial
I love your channel! It has helped me as a first year teacher! I love writing the goals for IEP's, but the minutes. I am struggling with that portion, and I am struggling with the NOPA......
Ahh, that is tricky!
this is so helpsut for m study
I'm a student in central and I already know IEP and I've been to before mini time
I want some more videos from u ..thq
Sure 😊
Awesome!!!!
Thanks!
Thanks a lot. I am first time going to start teaching to SEN students. Your videos are really a training platform for all learners. Can i get the copy of this form. And also all the samples to maintain the record of the each student. It will be a great help for all of us and will be thankful to you.
Thank you !!!!!
haha I leave the school site 530pm daily. I feel you on ghost voices.
Awesome
Hi, you are awesome, may Allah bless you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you. It there such thing as specializing, as a teacher, in mild to moderate special needs?
Thank you. I’m a parent and my scholar need additional assistance during class, the school is helping with a 504 plan but does not recommend a IEP. I’m very confused. I need more information on how I can insist with more help.
In the meeting I would express your concerns and provided any documentation that you have. Most of the time the team is very respective to your requests.
Thanks so much for making this video. I'm current a para educator and I'm considering becoming a teacher. I've heard that the ieps are really stressful so that kind of scares me. I still don't know rather I want to be a gen ed or sped teacher. In your opinion what is the hardest part about being a sped teacher. Also do you have any advice for someone considering a job as a sped teacher?
#newsubbie
Aw that is awesome! Paperwork is definitely the hardest past! But, I think that having worked in the setting already gives you a leg up!
Thank you
I really wish I had watched this a lot last summer. But thank you so much for this video!
I hear the way IEPs are done also vary by county as well. Is this true?
And what if let’s say you schedule an IEP exactly a year later. But then the parent or guardian have to reschedule to a later date for whatever reason? I know you talked about compliance.
Thanks alot
As a college student and future SpEd teacher, in your first year as a teacher how do you first assess students and write their IEP's if you do not know them yet? Also, what do you do by the time of the next IEP meeting if said student has not met their projected goals? Thanks.
ruclips.net/video/JLjyh7xniZY/видео.html This video talks about writing goals and touches on the assessment part. You will have to assess based on what you think is best, and write the iep with what you have or what you can gather. When they haven't met their goals you are honest with the team, then write similar goals again without copying anything word for word.
That Special Educator thanks so much!!
Do you use SEIS? That’d be real helpful since we use that in the US
No matter how much practice I get at my university, it still terrifies me to start writing them my first year of teaching (I graduate May of 2020)! Do you have other teachers and admin go over them to check for errors or reccomend that?
It can be tricky! Yes, I have some one review. Someone more senior than me and someone I trust!
I feel the same way no matter how much experience or how many times I’ve written one I feel like it’s never good enough.
Hullo could u give some examples regarding how to write observation report for special kid
Great idea! I will draft a video about that
Where did you get the templates you are using for the IEP? We use frontline as our IEP writing tool, but I wanted to be able to write some info on my mac.
my states website. each state should have a word doc version
Thanks!! Have a great year.
Just curious, is that an IEP writing doc that you created or is that how your district composes the documents?
What if a student doesn't reach a goal? Do you talk to the parents at the next IEP and tweak/change the goal?
It’s up to your special ed director on how to have that conversation. I would talk to the admin at your school
It seems like special education is 90% paperwork. When do you actually get to teach?
I was in iep for 1 year then I was in 504 plan for 2 years cause my learning disability this 1st grade to 4th grade
Great vedik! How can I get in touch with you,I need help in understanding few more details, thanks
maam can I as for the document steps?
