    I just wanted to say how grateful I am that I found your channel. I am also a SPED teacher and going into my second year of teaching. There is a plethora of content for general ed teachers, as well as Life Skills, but there is not as much for Resource or EBD. Your videos give me so many tips and ideas that I can implement in my classroom. I struggled with data collection last school year, so I am coming up with a new method so that I can stay on top of it. Love this channel and thanks for sharing!!

    It is SO nice to have a sped teacher RUclips channel! All the other teacher tubers are fantastic, but it’s sometimes hard to find content that is relatable to what we do. So thank you!!!

    I wish I had found your channel sooner! I just finished my first lomg term Sub placement in a Special Ed room. I didn't have anyone to take over from, and had no idea how to track progress, etc. All I have had is the kids' work and it has been a nightmare doing progress notes. You definitely need things set up in advance, and it has to be MANAGEABLE for your case load. I did go in and ran the classroom and taught them on their goals, but this is definitely something I wish I had been able to do better.

    Awesome video! I teach SpEd Preschool and kiddos come to me when they are newly identified for services and usually have just turned 3. They sometimes come to me from the assessment team with 13 objectives in their IEP's! It's so overwhelming to track so much!

      Hi Sarah, I know you wrote this a year ago. I am also an early intervention teacher and in my first year. I have a quick question I have twenty students on my caseload. I have a morning and afternoon classroom. How do you track your data. I only have three hours with each group and we have to do morning meeting, group activity, everyone in my class receives ot, pt and speech. Just wondering.

    Love your channel. It is so helpful. I am a SPED Learning center teacher for 3rd to 5th grade. All of my students are in General Education classes. They receive pull-in and/or push-out support based on their IEP's. I have one para-educator. My students can receive specialized academic instruction anywhere from 10 to 90% of their day, depending on what their IEP's say. Wish we had the "How was My Day?" form at my school. I love it. Do the students take the form home every night, or can the parent see, somewhere online, how their child was behaving that day? Hang in there, and thanks, again, for your channel.

    • @thatspecialeducator1061
      @thatspecialeducator1061  5 лет назад

      They take it home. I make a copy of all of them each day and file them as well as input them in the computer. The parents can see them in the computer but for some reason a lot of them still choose to check the paper copy. It has been helpful for tracking self-regulation

    Thank you for sharing this. I teach a self-contained multi-grade class. Last year, I used individual binders for each student to collect data. I did not like it as much versus the one big data binder I used the previous year. I was thinking about using clipboards or going back to one big binder for all students. What resources do you hang around your classroom for your students? I always wanted to have bulletin boards based on subjects taught. I teach 2nd and 3rd grades so I find it difficult, especially with my class room layout. I would like my wall space postings to be purposeful for my students, but not too overwhelming,. Do you do/focus on any thing special as you set up your bulletin boards? Thanks.

    • @thatspecialeducator1061
      @thatspecialeducator1061  5 лет назад +1

      I totally get it. I had to really work to keep the individual binders. I use bulletin board space for reinforcing rules and routines. I have one part of my classroom where I hang up some science work. My biggest thing in special education is not to get too visuals heavy because it can be overwhelming and over-stimulating.

    I have a question.. the situation: My Bachelor of Science degree is in Human Development and Psychology. I previously was a Preschool Teacher and also a Registered Behavior Therapist providing Applied Behavior Analysis therapy. This is my first year teaching Special Education in a self-contained classroom. I started one month into the school year. Do teachers normally decide what data collection methods they use, or is it normally dictated by the school?

      go into Google docs and or Microsoft word and insert the picture of the child their name their age the day they're at school if it's am group or PM group whatever it may be also list their disability and the accommodations and their service providers and also the busing information that's a snapshot at the student so when you're not in the building and you have a para or a sub or the Gen a teacher needing some information on the child they can look at that and get what they need

    Is there a way to track IEP data in a middle school resource room? During my student teaching, I briefly saw how a middle school resource room was run (not very well, I teach in Nevada) and my second practicum I watched how an elementary resource room is run with frequent progress monitoring and data. How can it be incorporated into a middle school resource room?

    • @thatspecialeducator1061
      @thatspecialeducator1061  4 года назад

      I have not seen middle school specific but I can look. Most of the data things are not grade specific.

      I have been looking for something similar since I teach RSP junior high and ways to work on individual IEP goals/progress monitoring. I get good ideas from videos like this, but then I have a difficult time implementing something that really works for me and my 1 para. My caseload is typically around 30 students since my sped team starting sharing caseload (previously I was at 40ish).

    Why did you decide upon the name of “That Special Educator”. I feel like your name gives such a negative start. From my cultural experiences with the word “that” as opposed to “great” or “innovative”, it has a negative connotation. Why? Just, why?

      I love it. I am a a SPED Parent and Advocate. I watch these videos to learn more about the classroom environment and to ensure that we have appropriate expectations from the teachers. I love the name because I feel she is including herself with our kiddos.No matter what names or labels we use, people will end up using them in a negative way. Even Autism for example peeps are using it when they want to insult someone. I understand your concern. We want to stay positive and use labels in a correct manner.
