Here are some ideas on how to fix both:
First one:
-You could make it so that yea, the gold protects you, but you have a permanent curse, so when you run out of money, you die as long as the mutation is active.
-Maybe make it so that you also lose health, but half the amount you would normally lose, at the cost of losing money.
-Add it as an ability that adds a shield that protects you from all damage, but drains 1000 gold a second, and can be activated/deactivated at will (with a cooldown of 5 seconds)
Second one:
-You gain 10x the health you lost worth of gold (At least then it becomes useful)
-Have a bit more time of recovery than usual when the mutation is active, and if you hit enemies while in this time, you get a lot of gold back (and life too).

Gold Plating looks like a very problematic mutation to add balance-wise.

Yeah, it seems like it would be much more appropriate as an aspect. It sounds fun for when you first get the game on 0bc, but even then it's just way too strong.
The only way I see of nerfing it is by nerfing it into the ground, like by making it take a LOT of money or by making it work using percentages of health.
Maybe it would he cool if it cost more and more money (or was less and less effective) the more you got hit? Maybe even counting the times you got hit before taking the mutation? Stil, you could pair it with gastronomy and be invincible.
Anyways this update still looks sick :).

Could also make it so you gain 50% less gold, so it’s harder for you to accumulate, and makes you decide whether you need to spend it on your weapon, potion charges, etc, or keep that “shielding”

We kinda need the collector (or the assistant) to have a new option to spend cells for a random selection of colourless weapons (like when you unlock a new one). After having collected everything the cells become useless, there are rooms that grant you cells as well as incentivized biomes, we can't really do anything with these cells.
Edit: made a suggestion on r/deadcells named Cell Shop (can't on steam because i have the game on switch)

I've been saying this for forever now, I would LOVE there to be an option for you to convert an absolutely massive amount of cells for a Legendary item. Make the price enough that you can only do it once per run, so it's not too broken. Would give you a great way to still be able to spend cells on something worthwhile after you've unlocked everything.

Well, its the matter of scaling. Assuming BC0 based on visible enemies one hit in sewers was what, 400? 500gold? I think instead of cooldowns, they could increase that ammount. How much gold can a person have in sewers? What if they hit for 4k gold? It will be interesting if on hit effects would stop working, no vengance etc.

Would have been kinda cool to see the bank only show up on stages that are followed by a boss allowing it to replace not only the following stage but also the boss with some kind of mimic-type battle. Then again we just got 2(4) new bosses with the DLC so that might have been too much.
And yes, gold plating sounds ridiculously OP. I assume they'll probably change it to protect only a percentage of maximum life based on current money. Or something like 5% less damage taken per x money owned.

Note: gold plating will not protect against curses. I confirmed this with some of the EE guys and they said the current curse protection in the alpha is unintentional.

I don’t know if the dagger’s inspiration was this but I had an idea I suggested in the dead cells discord called the “cavern chipper” which was a pick axe that would crit after you obtained gold, so essentially after every enemy’s death you would crit. The cupidity dagger has a similar gimmick and I am excited to see if something similar to my idea in the game. I hope it works!
