I've got a 96 extended body e350 7.3. The best way I can see to do the cold air intake is to relocate the batteries to underneath the truck. It's my understanding that the SD Econolines like yours already have one of the batteries under the truck, but my 96 still has both under the hood, so I stand to pick up a lot of room. So if/when I move them, I'll have plenty of room for a cold air intake. I also did the fuel bowl delete when I converted to electric fuel pump, so that really gave me some added room under all the intake plumbing. But one thing to keep in mind is that the stock air boxes for 7.3 Econolines are a much better design than the ones for the F series. They also have bigger intake ports and larger stock exhaust piping, all to give them better stock breathing characteristics compared to its F series brethren. (presumably to manage EGTs in compensation for the lack of room for an intercooler). I have yet to do the hydra, as I'm chasing down some unsavory personality quirks that I want resolved BEFORE tuning. It's a heavily loaded work truck with 340k+, i go 650-1000 miles a week for work, and some scant occasional weekend towing. My only interest in the hydra is giving the tranny more relaxed shift points, and increasing fuel mileage. I have no interest in hotdogging the beast. I enjoyed your video btw, because there's so few ground level videos and writeups to be found with modding E series 7.3s.
@@TheBadSeed3094 it's just a standard external inline pump... either a Bosch or its Carter equivalent. I purchased mine as part of a conversion kit sold by Mark Fugazzotto. He worked out all the plumbing details so that conversion was a breeze, and the dreaded banjo bolt configuration is altogether eliminated. I got the full-on kit, which means mine included the bowl delete block which is where the real magic is. So now instead of a bowl filter buried deep inside the valley under intake ducting and dashboard, I have two standard spin-ons beneath the truck, alongside the fuel pump. So now if the fuel pump fails, it's a breeze to replace in a parking lot with only a few basic handtools rather than a several hour operation with specialty tools. Also worth noting.... If my inline pump fails, its flow-thru design allows me to drive the truck to safety instead of it dying immediately like it will with the stock mechanical reciprocating pump. Albeit at reduced speeds, of course.... the flow-thru design actually allows the injectors to do their own suction pumping, which is a nice side effect of the HEUI design, but I'm pretty sure it's a little harder on the injectors and should not be done for a long trip home But anyway... the advantages are many! Including those "DOH" blue moon occasions where you run the tank too low on fuel, that electric primes itself right out rather than long hard cranks trying to purge lines. You can put your own kit together for cheaper, but the Mark Fugazzotto kit makes it easy, and removes all guess work. I hear the 444 Fab kit is nice too, and comparable, although I have no experience with it. I recommend kits like theirs built with common parts rather than the more expensive units like AirDog or Fass because their units are unified with proprietary parts, meaning that pump failure is more costly and more complicated, not to mention the proprietary filters are also much more expensive to buy and unlikely to source locally. When you do it, DEFINITELY get a fuel pressure guage. (electronic one rather than mechanical, for safety) so that there's never a question of fuel pressure. Also on a personal note.... The kits you buy to locate filters beneath the truck all seem to result in the filters protruding below the frame rails. This doesn't seem to bother most, but I didn't like it, so I modded my mounting plate (which holds the pump, filter headers and all contained plumbing together) with custom "hooks" instead of using the giant U-bolts from the kit, to place the mounting plate a good bit higher so that now the filters are sub-level with the rails.

I have a 1999 with the 7.3 and I love it! I have a PHP Hydra Chip and it really woke it up along with lowering EGTs, and increasing fuel mileage. Did chew up a couple sets of upgraded injectors from BD recently though, and went to an alliant power set.
Noone has a tune for a 97 e 450 super duty 7.3. Pickups only ! Thinking of trying a 97 pickup truck computer in it and then chip it. Any ideas ? I'm trying to figure out a go around !
i drive a lot of city and do a lot of towing i never really go a tank without towing a car but about 15mpg city. haven't really tried highway or paid attention.
@@MDvkAir smiles per gallon haha. keep in mind like i said i always tow at least 1 car per tank im sure the messes it all up and i do a lot of stop and go. either way its totally worth it it wakes the truck up so much more! you can actually keep up with traffic and not have to basically floor it off of every light to keep up. people where i live driver like idiots i swear everyone just floors it off the lights and they will basically hit you if you dont. im sure if you live in a better area you won't have to drive as aggressive and will get better milage. i also have a weak injector so that doesn't help. i actually just ordered injectors from 1023 the other day! ill be installing them soon

On the other hand if you have any fuel upgrades your truck will roll coal until your turbo spools. All black smoke is, is burned fuel. So no it’s not wasted power, fuel maybe. But not power...

@@pop_pops_garage that's probably much needed maintenance. I've often wondered hurt much of a pain that would be considering clearances and access.
you should compare the cummins killer tune with the 140 hp tune i bet youre time would be better if the shifting was more spread out
