Spoiler Saver & Riddle Q: What 4 letter English word can be written upside down, forward or backwards, and can still be read normally from left to right? Hint, it is when written as CAPITALS
@Fix it Phil Spoiler Good attempt Phil, but SEES doesn't read correct when upside down. The 'E' is wrong. So it needs to look the same upside down as it does the right way up. For example 'O' looks the same 😁👍👍
The whirly white thing is a flow meter. As water is drawn through it spins and triggers a hall effect transistor so it knows how much water to put in your cup. Hence the absence of direct contact.
After my machine popped out a day as well, I took your vid as an instruction. I replaced the thermal fuse of my machine. Recognized a broken SMD on the plating later. Ordered a new platine (called electronic board), which enabled to switch the machine on again. But the pump refrained to work. Lastly I ordered a new pump as well. Applied it today: Eureka! The machine works again. All in all, almost as expensive as buying a second-hand one, but I learned a hell of stuff... You made that possible. Thanks a million, Vince!
😁 haha, yeah I'll try to remember if I get that far! It looked like a bit of a nightmare to get into, giving me horrible flashbacks to that printer I did! 🙃
@@StezStixFix Yeah, that printer looked horrendous, not only cut knuckle material and numerous clips, but every surface in a 2m radius covered with ink fingerprints!
Great. Mine doesn't have the same problem, it just pumps out more water into the drip tray than coffee, so I wanted to open it up to see what's what. This video is exactly what I needed to have the confidence to dismantle (and, of course, reassemble) it. Thanks a lot
That first thing you took out is a flow meter, that is how it senses how much coffee to pour. It measures how much water went through by spinning the flow blades with a magnet near the hal effect sensor and by counting how many pulses it senses.
I bought one of these about a year ago and wondered how it works. Now I know! I don't use it much for the same reasons as you've discovered, the capsules are quite expensive.
I got given a tassimo machine 3 years ago for Xmas, its been used everyday one of the best things ever. Didnt drink coffee at all until I got that. Now it my go to hot drink.
Thank you Vince! your video is one of the only ones showing the whole process! It really helped me fix my EN85.b essenza mini, even though it's not exactly like yours.
This video was very useful to see how this machine works. I was a little worried because a part was not perfectly aligned but I think it was a factory mistake.
Hi Vince, was busy fixing same, your clip was helpful, I noted that yours was heating up but no working pump. I'd replaced the green printed electronic plate, sadly, it wasn't the cause. I almost bought a new pump and a few fuses but thought, let me test the pump by connecting it directly so not through the machine, but with two wires. It turned out to be working. I then realised since my thermoblock did not get hot at all, that it must be broken. Got a new one, and while installing it, I discovered the old one was hard to remove as the thick rubbers (two) one either side of the thermo, had melted to the thermo, I had to drill out the largest hole, and finally got the back cover off, so from that I knew the thermo had become very, very hot. Connected new thermo, tested, and machine worked. Conclusions: 1) if the thermo works but the pump does not, it is highly likely that the pump is damaged in some way, like your one was, with blown fuse 2) If the thermo does not work ''the pump will not switch on'', therefore one should never assume the pump is broken if it has not been tested separately. I bought a few secondhand machines (10 euros each), different ones, online, and was able to exchange some of the parts. Nespresso Essenza Mini uses the same thermoblock and pump as the KRUPS XN110B and other models too.
Mine had just broke. It was very helpful to see this clip. When you know what to look for it was easy to check what happened to the one I have. And bingoooo… To check termal fuse there is no need to disassemble everything. Top and back is enough for replacing the fuse eigher. Great video. Thank you.
I have one of these, makes 3 to 4 lungos a day. Interesting to see how it works and and if it should fail I am confident to take it apart now. Great vid, love the variation in items on your channel.
@Klippy you are indeed lucky. My wife used to travel a lot especially pre covid and almost every hotel would have a Nespresso machine. When covid restrictions finally ended about 2 years ago, we bought a Essenza Mini (along with 300 pods) for our home. It never worked properly. We googled several sites, tried descaling it, resetting it, pressed every button combination that was mentioned. We called Nespresso, spent more on service than we spent on the new machine but no luck. We made a total of 10 cups of coffee after maybe a grad total of 6-7 hours of trying. Finally the Nespresso machine and 290 pods ended up being gifted to a electronics and plastic recycling center and we swore never to buy ANYTHING from Nespresso ever again.
I have fixed a few of these , what I did to fix them was to put a rubber washer around the pump intake to make a proper seal ...then you need a squirt bottle or empty water bottle (whatever fits better) with your bottle filled with (distilled water) place over the pump intake with the rubber washer seal.....then turn on the machine and select and start your shot whilst squeeze your bottle into the pump intake at the same time. Once the machine starts taking on water stop , refill water bin and run a few shots to test.

I remember roughly 20 years ago Guinness finally came across the Atlantic to the United States there was big fanfare on TV how wonderful Guinness is with American news reporters going to English taverns and pubs who sold guinness asking brits how great guinness was and nothing but praise. My dad who’d been to Britain warned me that Guinness was terrible and how men would force a smile while drinking it making a sour face. I tried it and promptly poured it into the yard where the grass turned yellow and died. Note that Guinness has really taken off in the US since and many Americans love it. I myself do like guinness after I’ve already become drunk it goes down like water but does leave a nice taste on the drunken tongue. I mentioned this because I was thinking the same thing about the stout bitter beer as the first cup of coffee and you mentioned it.
Nice. Just for ref, anything subject to vibration gets crimped electrical joints and not soldered. This mainly why that thermal fuse was crimped in. It is also why car electrics use crimp connectors, as solder joints break with vibration. A good crimp or wire wrap connection is just as good as soldering believe it or not.
u can actually buy a heat shunt to help dissipate the heat on amazon but expensive prices for what they are , the best types are made of aluminium .. its a kind of aluminium crocodile clip.but depending on how temp sensitive your item your soldering is you can use a bare crocodile clip... nice fix keep up the good work and enjoying your expensive coffee
Nice video again bud, these thermal fuses fail quite a bit, its the same reason why alot of rice cookers fail. A very simple fix for the rice cooker too if you know what to look for.
Made the same mistake when i was putting some diy clock kit together that had temp sensor... I was like "why it's only twisted there" so i soldered it (and i wasn't even fast about it). Nice to see simmilar mistakes :-)
Hi Vince. Just wanted to say 'Hi' and let you know that I've been watching your videos for just over a year now. They're truly fascinating and I've learned a lot. You've inspired me to do my own repairs around the house. So far, I've managed to fix an Echo Dot (faulty speaker connection) and soldered a new jack onto a set of DJ headphones. This week I made my first 'faulty', eBay purchase and bought a Stanton RM3s Mixer. Description is 'possible spill damage & no power'. Cannot wait to get involved. All the best Vince. Keep up the great work - Terry.
There are now solid state temperature switch which can act like a thermal fuse except that when the temperature goes back to normal, continuity is re-established. With a thermal fuse, once temperature exceeds the specs, continuity is cut off and one has to replace it. I had an old rice cooker which "eats" thermal fuses until I replaced it with a temperature switch. They are about the same size.
Love that the bugle player has been sacked but got to admit I missed the musical tone. Job centre for him then! Another great video Vince 👍 thank you for providing so much entertainment to me and many others
its always great to be able to get/give yourself a treat out of the appliance you just fixed! Me last summer when I restored a microwave and got to cook up a nice meal with it after all my hard work to test it out. So satisfying and shows it doesnt have to be a throwaway society afterall!
Good find with the thermal fuse Vince! Also, welcome to the fidgety hand club 😂. The vibratory pump (solenoid valve) are common in a lot of consumer goods such as irons, coffee makers, steamers, and carpet cleaners. I did a video last year (November) on a Hoover carpet cleaner. If interested I tried to explain (to the best of my ability) how those pumps work. Yours is a wee bit different, but should be similar in function.
I wonder if there was a tiny something and/or air that prevented the plunger from closing and the coil started to overheat as the inrush can stay high without the correct travel . I’ve looked a fair few pumps in fog and haze machines and sometimes just stripping the pump and putting it back together clears it. It could have been the tiniest bit of scale or grit, you wouldn’t perhaps notice. Funny you should mention a syringe. Recharging the lines by sucking the glycol fluid through is not pleasant and I got a syringe for this very job.
@@epsilonzero77 it's possible and the heat generated in that section, without water assisting to displace it, could have been what cause the thermal fuse to open. You are right, a lot of times a small amount of scale is the problem. However I have come across a few where the resistance of the coil windings was the culprit and a strong enough magnetic field could not be generated to actuate the plunger.
This is a thermal fuse attached to the pump so the pump does not overheat!!! Its pretty much useless as the coffe maker controller wont run it for much time! Though for security reasona they always put them on these kind of pumps! I had to repair a clients car hoover with one of those. These thermal fuses are really easy to get hold on for pennies! Cheerio! ^_^
Hello I have almost the same machine And the clip thing you were struggling with there is a second one which was really easy to remove But i have forgot where it should go when i tried to re assemble the machine. 😅
Hey Vince, after fixing a DeLonghi Magnifica, I can name myself a coffee machine noob XD The white thing you mistook for the pump earlier in the video is a flow meter. You could have opened it by twisting, but there is just a wheel inside with a magnet on top somewhere. You see, the machine has to know how much water has flowed through, so it can stop itself after a given amount of water. This is done by this little flow meter. And yes, it works inductive. Very nice video, I always enjoy watching them. Greetings, Andreas.
I had one with a similar problem(water leaking from the bottom) that I fixed by just moving a tube a little tighter, and only yesterday ended up selling it
Was screaming Nooooo! at you when you said "solder it in". The clue is in the word 'thermal'. 🤣 Still, good learning experience and you had a pack of 5 fuses to play with.
Hello, I know its a lot to ask but is there a possibility that you do another video on this machine but on how to remove the front nozzle to remove coffee particle stuck? Thanks in advance. I am trying at the moment your video is very helping
I had one of these with the same issue. It was such a ball ache to get apart I threw it in the bin. I've never seen such an unrepairable device in my entire life.
Hi vince it's just like mine if you hold the buttons down during filling small or large you should be able to set the level of water that flows through release button when it's at the level you want it. Awesome video at least I will know what to do if mine brakes.
99 percent of the thermal fuses i have worked with, are all crimped, and never soldered as solder can melt and drip onto other components or circuit board and short out ... maybe not in your case but certainly when dealing with bare electrical heating elements .. so do bare this in mind in the future ... nice one vince ...
You spend ages trying to get into it. You have to take it apart slowly and carefully incase you ruin it. Then its all so complicated once you get inside and see all the things you are familiar with but they don't seem to fit together like you are used to, give it a good fiddle, blow in some holes, suck in other places, work out the best way to get your movement detected, then when you think you are done work out how to get it all back together give it a good run and you end up with a YEEEESSSSSSSS. Reminds me of something cant think what ;-)
Good video vince. I have one of these and if it ever stops running I'll know why. I was surprised you didn't recognise that as a fuse at first sight, I would have thought you'd be able to spot a fuse a mile off! I suppose they do come in various shapes/sizes. You'll usually find these kind of thermal fuses around simple heating elements though., its a cheap way to do thermal protection without needing sensors. Shame as you say though, many of these have likely ended up in landfill all because of a little fuse! P.s I would have done the exact same thing soldering the fuse 😂 good job you bought spares!
The motor is open is probably the thermal fuse is broken/open. Most household machine had a thermal fuse to protect against heat and fire. That thing looking like a capacitor is the thermal fuse. If it's open then you need to replace it.
Obviously not designed with repair in mind, as soon as I seen that fuseable link I thought that was going to be the likely culprit. Replaced no end of those things in storage heaters over the years, with the heaters I found that once they start to go they keep blowing. But you maybe lucky and it lasts donkeys years, good video. 👍
Vinces sense of humor is priceless now we ate gonna be checking your hands in the future to see about rhat coffee addiction lol and ya this stuff is expensive my wife loves her coffee machines this is why I love Amazon well another good video
I have LOR capsules and I love it. I pay abou R$1,35 per capsule. Which is around £0.18 for a decent espresso. If I go to a coffee shop I pay three times as much for a crappy one.
Don't like coffee. Don't like to waste money. So your near heart attack due to prices and finishing the drink even though it was cold was exactly what I would have done!! Love it.
Great job vince👍 Why would they make the thermal fuse cut off the pump with the cooling water, instead of the actual heater that just keeps getting hotter and hotter. I've never seen a Coffeemachine not having safety in the heating element.
Nice repair, you could use some needle nose pliers on the leads to draw away the heat while soldering the thermal fuse, Thermal fuses has a life span the repeated cycling kills the fuse after sometime
I love my coffee and this makes me happy and it's very satisfying to see it working pretty much perfect good work with this one Vince you did a great job with it another massive thumbs up from me.
Don't throw old pods away, you can refill them and use them over and over using a food grade sealant to bung the lower hole or I saw someone suggested clean wax to seal and a tape to seal the top when you have refilled with your favourite coffee. Plenty of vids out there and ground coffee is cheap as chips. I gave ours away as I discovered Taylors of Harrogate did my favourite coffee "Hot Java Lava" in coffee bags and its a mental strong coffee and very nice with a dash o' cream and some dark demorara sugar :)
an aquired taste for sure. You should look to invest in a device to heat and whip up the milk now and maybe get a chocolate sprinkler. Great fix but still wondering what caused the fail in the 1st place. Nice to see an honest seller.
Hello Vincent, thank you for this video😄I went step by step with it and succeed to disassemble the same coffee machine. The problem with my machine is the heating element I think, when I plug the electrical cord to the electricity the Depreciation breaker jump and shut down the house power electrical. Any Idea how to repair it? Do I need to replace the all element?thanks for your help reply 🙏😄
10 capsules for £3.19 onlline. So 31.9p per cup, plus water ,plus electric. I'd rather stick with my PG Tips Vince. Great video Vince, please keep em coming !

my guess as to the failure of the thermal fuse is that someone forgot to top off the water, proceeded to run the pump dry, and it started to overheat, at which point the thermal fuse blew to save the pump itself very cool to see fixed, i will say that machine is obnoxiously loud though, i have a keurig myself and while not quiet, i'd defintly say that nesperesso machine makes it sound silent as can be, lol
Vince..to make a normal coffee, nowadays called an Americano, get a large warm cup or mug then put in the lungo, then top up with water just off the boil and add milk and sugar to taste. A lungo on its own is a very strong coffee drunk without milk, like an expresso. The Starbucks capsule is best as it is a genuine nespresso brand the others a compatibles.

Thanks for the superb explanation! I managed to exchange the thermal fuse and it works again.
I had this problem so much with my Tassimo - I just ran the cleaning program with a decalcifier tablet in it and it fixed it every time 😂🙏
decalcifier can't repair thermal fuses ;-)
you really should consider using distilled water or at least RO water in your machine
🤣 My knuckles have only just recovered! I will check out your video later on. Thank you, looking forward to it 👍👍
@@Mymatevince no worries.
Cheerio! ^_^
Brilliant! I had exactly the same fault in my machine! Fixed with your help!
Hello
I have almost the same machine
And the clip thing you were struggling with there is a second one which was really easy to remove
But i have forgot where it should go when i tried to re assemble the machine. 😅
I prefer my Bialetti Moka pot for coffee than these machines but as far as fixes go that one hit the spot 👍🏻
Hey Vince, after fixing a DeLonghi Magnifica, I can name myself a coffee machine noob XD
The white thing you mistook for the pump earlier in the video is a flow meter.
I had one with a similar problem(water leaking from the bottom) that I fixed by just moving a tube a little tighter, and only yesterday ended up selling it
Thanks a bunch! Fixed a machine that had had the same problem for a cost of less than 1€ :)
Was screaming Nooooo! at you when you said "solder it in". The clue is in the word 'thermal'. 🤣 Still, good learning experience and you had a pack of 5 fuses to play with.
🤣🤣
Hello, I know its a lot to ask but is there a possibility that you do another video on this machine but on how to remove the front nozzle to remove coffee particle stuck? Thanks in advance. I am trying at the moment your video is very helping
Update, I was able to remove the front nozzle and cleaned. Thanks
Great repair taking much thought. Really needed a cup of coffee half way thru. Hmm you now can.👍
Thanks vince been waiting for a coffee maker one!
I had one of these with the same issue. It was such a ball ache to get apart I threw it in the bin. I've never seen such an unrepairable device in my entire life.
God i wish i had a name like Max Rockatansky that is brilliant !!!!!! ...well done again Vince , your getting good at this ain't ya ;)
Hi vince it's just like mine if you hold the buttons down during filling small or large you should be able to set the level of water that flows through release button when it's at the level you want it. Awesome video at least I will know what to do if mine brakes.
Thank you it was so useful. But for changing that thermal fuse you don’t have to open everything. I just fixed mine
Reminds me of something cant think what ;-)
Can't wait for the next coffee break fix.
Microwave half a cup of milk and add coffee hey presto enjoy .cheers mate from Australia
"Hopefully it will come out brown" - Hehehe... The chuckles are real.
now that's a sentence you don't hear very often ;)
This is a fantastic video! Still trying to figure out how to unclip the 4 inside clips 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you for the video. You saved my coffee machine.
Bro when I was 6 I would watch your controllers on the switch video I just found your channel again
Don't like coffee. Don't like to waste money. So your near heart attack due to prices and finishing the drink even though it was cold was exactly what I would have done!! Love it.
Great job vince👍
Why would they make the thermal fuse cut off the pump with the cooling water, instead of the actual heater that just keeps getting hotter and hotter.
I've never seen a Coffeemachine not having safety in the heating element.
Nice repair, you could use some needle nose pliers on the leads to draw away the heat while soldering the thermal fuse, Thermal fuses has a life span the repeated cycling kills the fuse after sometime
Thanks for the info and tip AR 👍👍
I love my coffee and this makes me happy and it's very satisfying to see it working pretty much perfect good work with this one Vince you did a great job with it another massive thumbs up from me.
Oh look at that. It's like Guinness! Wicked comment mate
Thanks mate, this is a very helpful video. I’m about to pull ours apart.
10 capsules for £3.19 onlline.
So 31.9p per cup, plus water ,plus electric.
I'd rather stick with my PG Tips Vince.
Great video Vince, please keep em coming !
Great fix vince surely was an interesting one as a coffee lover and loving to repair electronics I truly enjoyed this video I never knew about a thermal fuse so this was a great video keep up the amazing work
Great video Vince, have a look at the delonghi dedica, lots of faulty ones on eBay, no thermal Fuses that I can see, much easier to take apart. My pump is working but no clue why it's not working
Great video love this kind of thing, mine isn’t broke but if it does break I know how to disassemble it. Thanks
Muchas gracias amigo. La arreglé!!!! Un abrazo desde Chile
The thermal fuse mistake i did it myself aswell 🤣🤣 i cramped connectors on the ends and was able to fit it on the broken ends.
my guess as to the failure of the thermal fuse is that someone forgot to top off the water, proceeded to run the pump dry, and it started to overheat, at which point the thermal fuse blew to save the pump itself
very cool to see fixed, i will say that machine is obnoxiously loud though, i have a keurig myself and while not quiet, i'd defintly say that nesperesso machine makes it sound silent as can be, lol
Good work. Forget your fail with soldering.I would make the same fail.
I admire your patience!
