To be honest I think I could predict these at this point. This will be the fourth eruption in four months. I'm saying the fifth eruption will be next month :)
Thank you for bringing up the possible lava conduit narrowing. I was wondering if such a thing would begin this early and your supposition does make sense.
With the time between eruptions shortening then when does it become a continuous eruption. :/ It's kind of interesting how nobody asked how that specific Iceland peninsula formed in the first place! And note the smaller island that just appeared in the ocean not far from the peninsula? I'm no geologist, but that looks like a trend!
@@kaoskronostyche9939 the hell do you think is going to happen to the entire island in that time? All of the recent volcanism has been clustered around two or three relatively small locations.

Yet another excellent video! Your theory that magma is solidifying onto the sides of the magma chamber and progressively reducing its size is interesting, and an original contribution I think. Losing a car park ( parking lot) is perhaps the least worrisome outcome of the lot. I've heard that one simulated model has the road and pipeline destroyed by the last eruption and rebuilt, being destroyed again in the coming one. If it wasn't for the fact that constant rebuilds is going to cost a heck of a lot of money, it would actually be cartoonishly funny. What worries me is the fact people are being let back into Grindavik as well as the Blue Lagoon. Half an hour isn't a lot of time to evacuate people, and there's been some suggestions that this may actually be the maximum amount of warning time, rather than the minimum. I don't know how true this is, but if it is, coupled with the fact that a lava spewing fissure can open up anywhere along the line, a wrong guess could well be deadly. Then will come the recriminations and finger pointing... with people conveniently forgetting how much pressure was put on the authorities to re-open these places despite the potential dangers!
The sad thing about it is the people go to the Blue Lagoon taking their lives in their own hands. It's their choice, no one is forcing them to go there.
@@marshayoung9387- Yes this is true... and we'll have another White Island situation on our hands all over again if the worst happens. It will be somebody's fault, they will say, the company that owns and runs the Blue Lagoon, the government for not closing it down or keeping it closed. They have more than enough powerplants overall. Their industry isn't affected at all so far, even if the powerplant close to the Blue Lagoon would have to close down. It sure would be a huge setback nevertheless.
@@jantjarks7946they do not have more than enough. This powerplant is relatively small, and without it houses won't have both electricity and water, both hot and cold, so if powerplant were to be damaged/destroyed this part of Peninsula would be uninhabitable

I expect the eruption a bit later, but its being strange and could build enough pressure to erupt before the pressure really starts ramping up. Every geologist says march 1st with gigantic error bars on the prediction,
There has been reports of the heavy presence of the odor of sulfuric gases that is causing some health issues. It would seem like the presence of heavy odor of sulfuric gases is usually followed by a violent eruption. I get the feeling that the magma chamber that was building up may have burrowed into another chamber, crevices, and it will rear its dragon head around mid-March. With the strong odor of sulfuric gases, and the presence of heavy steam, the next eruption is going to be an ugly one. Just an observation.
In the last day, almost every GPS data point on the peninsula lost elevation. I think this might indicate that the magma has already detoured, sideways, to some location without a GPS receiver. Probably off shore.
There actually have already been built new barriers around the entire town about 3-4 meters in height. so if lava would erupt close to the town not within the barriers then the lava would likely flow around it and into the ocean.
It's amazing how much more accurate all of this has become.

Interesting that the upper magma chamber in flow is decreasing, so a new upper chamber might form later if the lower breaks through in another place.
