45 MINUTES JUST TO SWAP A JOYSTICK?! I mean, Charlie was intending to do some other stuff too, but it was just so darn cold outside... In this episode, Charlie spruces up his Data East "Sly Spy" arcade machine by replacing the joystick, cleaning the buttons, testing the power supply, and adjusting the monitor. He tries a few more things, but they don't turn out particularly well. Oops.

By looking at the marquee unlit, its shocking that it looks as good as it does when lit. You'd think it would just be a spotlight on the horrible damage the incandescent bulbs did. Keep up the great work!
Thanks - yeah, let’s hope it looks good when I’m done!
So part of my job is acrylic restoration, and really you need to go all the way to at least 300 grit and polish to get back pretty good glossy finish. Lots of elbow grease, and use water
I fear this patient was already a goner before he hit my operating table…
Good video on the basics, Charlie!
Thanks, Sean -- I feel like I didn't accomplish much, but we don't all live in a paradisiacal climate like you! 😂
Looks like a cool game I love that time period. Same year as TMNT arcade
Oh yeah, 1989 was a great year in my life. I even remember getting a Game Boy for Christmas! 😆
This version of Sly Spy is built around a Dynamo HS-2. This cabinet still has the generic Dynamo JAMMA harness that includes the molex breakout for Player-2.
Did the regular generic Dynamo HS-2 cabs have the same double incandescent bulb marquee light, or a more typical fluorescent fixture?
@@overtimearcade I've personally never seen one with a fluorescent bulb fixture. It's always been with the twin incandescent bulb setup.
@@UTubed119 Good, that means I don't need to replace it haha
@@overtimearcade Yeah i don't blame you. It's a cool game and all but not worth going wild on. It's cool to stuff in an aisle between other cabs.
Yep, good filler game!
I could totally do that reverse printed labels for you. I have a label maker on my PC.
MY MAN!!!
Great stuff
Thanks so much, and thanks for subscribing!
Working on the same exact dynamo cab, marvel vs capcom, so much easier to work on the power or board !!!
Absolutely -- it's a super convenient setup!
That sly spy for $500 is my sly spy that I’m selling, really don’t want to sell it since I really like the game but I don’t have the space. Not sure why it won’t sell😅
I got my marquee from escape pod online and I know the owner, I would definitely recommend
Oh wow, yeah, the one you’re selling looks like it’s in really nice condition - much better than mine! The market always dictates this stuff. Prices are a bit soft right now, and Sly Spy generally isn’t a game that tons of people have irrational nostalgia for. Plus, there always seems to be lots of awesome games for sale in your state, so buyers can be more choosy. I’m sure it’ll sell once you find the right buyer. In the meantime, maybe you can let a friend borrow it to free up room to expand your own collection?
@@overtimearcade yeah the market has died down a bit lately, but yeah I just have way too many games. Maybe I’ll let a friend to borrow a game or two
It's a win-win IMO... they get to borrow a game, you avoid paying for a storage unit, AND you get room for more stuff!
I have yet to find a Sly Spy marquee that was in the same shape
You mean they're all burnt up and you haven't seen a good one?
@@overtimearcade every one I’ve came across is burnt up. Really bad design with those light bulbs
Oh yeah, 100% -- I'm hoping to get a decent repro made...
@@overtimearcade I hope so good luck surely someone will come through for you.
It'll be in the mail tomorrow on it's way to me!
😎 as 🧊
It was definitely 🧊 -- not sure about 😎 though haha!
