    Nice work. One thing I've noticed within every cabinet repair video that I've watched... lack of care over the look of interior cabinet black paint. It looks like you have some nicer matte paint here, but the lefthand side, I can see through the paint in areas that are not covered after everything is installed. Again, great video, nice job, but while you're doing all of this great work... pay attention to the black applications.

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks, Ian! The interior of the cabinet wasn’t completely painted by the manufacturer at the factory, although there was plenty of overspray that made it inside. Are you suggesting I paint the interior walls that will never be seen by a player on the outside?

    Nice job Charlie! No safety goggles though? They make amazing bifocal ones for guys like us with glasses.
    Also, I like to use a sanding sponge on the edges once I finish. Downward motion towards the floor if it cab is on its side right after trimming laminate. The edges are sharp and doing that dulls them. Takes 30 secs since you're not sanding too hard. I talk about it in one of my vids with Gaplus resto.😢

    You know what would be fantastic? Can you make a video just showing how to set the router? I know the height of flush cut but is adjustable, so can you show how you adjust and line it up. My biggest fear is if you go to cut the laminate and it will cut into the cabinet. So how do you line everything up to make sure your router is cutting the laminate and not the cab?

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  5 месяцев назад +1

      Although most routers are similar, I'd recommend consulting the manual on how to set the depth. If you use the correct flush trim bit, it's difficult to mess up and cut into the cabinet -- assuming the edges of your cabinet are in good shape and not all wonky to begin with. All you need to do is set the depth of the bit so that the bearing rides along the middle (or so) of the edge of the cabinet, and you only need a amount of cutting surface of the bit exposed to trim the laminate effectively.

  • @upuchri
    @upuchri 5 месяцев назад

    How does the t-molding fit since the laminate adds a bit of thickness.

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  5 месяцев назад +1

      The thickness doesn’t increase that much, especially since I sanded the original sides down to bare wood (and then some to get it smooth). If I was laminating over untouched sides, I could always get slightly wider t-molding and then trim it down on the inside edge.

  • @daveweston5158
    @daveweston5158 5 месяцев назад

    HI Charlie!
    A couple of quick questions; 1) Does the application of heat to the laminate cause it to become more flexible? I imagine warm laminate to be less prone to cracking... 2) Would a quick application of low heat make the separation of the artwork from the backing any easier? I again imagie that by the time you read this, you've already discarded any scrap material, but it might be interesting to experiment with for future projects...
    I can't argue with the results (Which look amazing, BTW), but one of my philosophies in life is 'Question everything... But be prepared for the answers...' 😊

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  5 месяцев назад

      Hey, Dave!
      1. I’m not sure if heat would make laminate less prone to cracking, but I imagine extreme cold would make it more brittle.
      2. I’d be very concerned about damaging the artwork with a heat gun. Rapid-Tac can help loosen up the decal from the backing though.
      Thanks!

    • @daveweston5158
      @daveweston5158 5 месяцев назад

      @@overtimearcade Just to clarify, I failed to make a distinction between the use of a heat gun, vs. a hair dryer (oops...😟). A heat gun on a low (or possibly a medium) setting, held several inches (perhaps even a foot or so) away from the laminate, and working to spread the heat over a larger area could potentially make the laminate temporarily more pliable, and less prone to cracking (again, just a theory), while using a hair dryer on a low setting on artwork can potentially soften the adhesive, making removing the backing a little easier. Depending on the material the artwork is printed on, it may also assist in flattening rolled artwork prior to application. Of course, just working in a warmer environment may achieve the same effect...😉

Please let me know, wish I could send this game to you for installing it, not sure how that works. I cannot find anyone around here. Appreciate what you can do.

      @overtimearcade  4 месяца назад

      Most of my games are 19" so I don't get many 25" monitors, but I see them for sale rather frequently on Facebook Marketplace. Shipping an entire game to me for me to install a monitor and then ship it back you doesn't make much sense cost-wise -- it would likely be cheaper for you to just buy another complete game locally. Have you made any posts on Facebook or KLOV looking to make collections with other local collectors/technicians in Oklahoma? If you point me to those posts, I'd be happy to amplify them for you.
