Finally, Pick&Mix is back! More TPS = a happier internet!
Yeah! Finally some Greer up in here! I have a Lightspeed, Southland, and Little Samson on my board. Southland into a Lightspeed is wicked!
Just busted out my southland and was appreciating the complexity of its dirt. Good stuff. That and the lightspeed are the sh*t.
Built up a discrete, stripped down version of the Lightspeed without the second opamp stage on the breadboard yesterday. Good lord, what an amazing sounding circuit. Once I get it tweaked, I'm gonna do up the Southland and stick them in one enclosure.
The Southland is probably my favorite overdrive. It just sounds awesome. The Lightspeed is really nice as well.
Had no idea the DryBell existed - seems like the answer to all my issues with vibe pedals and I've tried a bunch! You guys are the BEST!
Thanks for bringing Pick'N'Mix back! Always fun!
Today is truly a day-of-days.... TPS Tuesday! Nice mix of pedals today. Very eclectic mix of pedals and bonus new amp! Thanks guys!
That Vibe Machine is a Beast!
These Pick N Mix are so good ... please get back to these. Thanks.
Great Pick n' Mick n' Dan!
I could live with just those pedals happily. Cheers
Been waiting for these to come back. They get me through my breaks and lunch at work
Audio Kitchen - you guys are so lucky!!
Great to see TPS back for a Tuesday
We are hoping to hit every Tuesday with something. Hoping....
Awesome episode guys. Hoping for more regular pick n mixes in the future. Keep up the good work!
NICE! Great tones and playing as always!
More like that amp show today. Loving the tones from this episode. Thank you gentlemen.
Wow...thanks guys. Great surprise. Great playing as always. Love the Greer pedal. Brothers Osborne all day with that one!!
Thank the good Lord this is back! A whole week to wait was far too long ! Oh, and I don't even own an acoustic soooo, yah! This was much needed!
Dudes, this was just sooo nice. Firkin' love it. Just keep on doing what you do. Kudos from Amsterdam
Well this is a treat, a video on a Tuesday :)
*Dan smashes down a cold one in the first 10 seconds* I believe the Australian embassy does do spot checks on ex-pat beer levels, yes
Every Aussie I ever met can handle some beers.😂 no joke.
+Nicholas Caldwell they sure do, you also need to be able bench 120 and build and aquatic mode of transport with nothing but twigs and a packet of fruit pastels ;)
PMSL😂😂😂
We sure can!
Getting good vibes already!
LOVE pick'n'mix guys... Missed it a lot :D
Great show guys. Very glad pick&mix is back. You guys spoiled us with 2 shows a week for to long. Now you gotta keep it up
Oh, man. Is it only Tuesday? Monday was so long. What a treat to get a midweek TPS. Thanks, guys.
I’ve been stalking the DryBell, and it always, always sounds amazing! I am holding out till I can pick up this pedal.
Thank you for the Dry Bell! Keeping my Mojo Vibe for now!
That was so much fun! Thank you!
That vibe machine is epic. It has that illusive sort of “thwack”
i fucking love univibe . all that hendrixy goodness in mick’s playing really emphasises that sound
Thank you Harry. It does sound bloomin sexy. :0)
My favourite mod. Vibe and Flanger/Chorus=me happy.
harry souter me too i LOVE univibe! and wah.
Now that was really nice!!!
Great playin`and fantastic tone....
Thanks guys!!!
Thank you Urban!
Totally awesome! Loved every minute.
Pick & mix is my jam for sure. I would listen to hours of this. You should do more of these per week ;)
Another great show guys, glad Tuesdays are tps days again..and thanks for turning me onto the tru fi stuff..bought the big orange colordriver...love it w/me tele and tweed..
Colourdrive, tele, tweed.., awesome!
Best episode in awhile... all the tones.
What a brilliant weekend, at the UK Guitar Show. Spotted Pete Honore, Chris Buck and Bernie
Marsden, a session from Martin Simpson , fabulous gear all over, all topped off with an absolute ball buster of a session from you guys. Sensational. Then went back to brother's house in Palmers Green, dug out my tablet and ordered a D & M Drive at last. Tuesday afternoon, back home to South Shields.Arrived at 5.00 to find my D & M Drive waiting...Blimey!! Unpacked cases, logged on to TPS and found an episode of Pick and Mix featuring my favorite effect sounds, drive and vibe. Happy trails and thanks a million fellers!!
Was great to meet you Geoff! Thanks for buying a D&M Drive - we hope it brings you happy tones! Cheers!
Right back at you Mick, in spades!!
+Geoff Tate ah, that’s awesome Geoff, thanks so much for coming out to the show and snagging a D&M :)
Welcome back P’n’Mix & especially two rock = amplification perfected.....Interested to hear Dan’s new beast too! Sounds v enticing.
Now the world is running around setting all pedal knobs to 2 pm.
that monstrously good intro solo... talk about vibe!!
wow congrats on the big chopper Dan. I knew when you had an audio kitchen in to try you'd want your own. Amazing sounds oozing out of it throughout the show
That Audio Kitchen amp is incredible. Seldom has an amp stood out as that one does.
Glad I ordered the Tru-Fi Color boost and Floyd Fuzz
Thanks for having the Dry Vibe on: a very worthy Hendrix/Trower style vibe pedal, also a great Pink Floyd style vibe pedal is the Black Cat Vibe... a personal favorite - just wish they'd ditch the old style housing.
MIck channeling his inner Robin Trower during the intro there. Thought for minute you were going to kick into "Bridge of sighs". Nice.
I just wish I had one. Every time I think I know Bridge Of Sighs... I don’t. Weird!
Cheers, guys..
I would GLADLY use a board with just these four pedals. Killer!
Epic riff on the ALL ON Schwang!
Those four pedals go together well and make quite a workable pedal board as they are. I notice "vibe machine" has an expression pedal input too which is nice and would probably make a for a decent Leslie speaker emulator. I'm not a fan of trim pots, but at least the "vibe machine" has them outside and more accessible.
The "Pick'N'Mix" mid-week fix is appreciated.
Cheers chaps.
I love that Dan went drop-D with the Southland! 😆🤘🤘
The Greer sounded great!
Great way to start my Birthday. Thanks for all the great vids keep up the work!!!!
Happy birthday Tashi! Have a fantastic day.
+Tashi Stewart happy birthday Tashi!
I'd take that as a pedalboard any day! Nice set of toys ;)
I love these free-wheeling episodes!
So do we - cheers Stanley!
I dig the Pick'N'Mix videos, guys! Glad to see another one. I know you're trying to keep them relatively short, but it would be cool to see a very quick comparison to another pedal in the same genre just to get a reference sometimes. That Vibe Machine sounds great, but what is its primary sonic difference compared to Dan's Mojo Vibe, for example. Not at all suggesting a full A/B, but even 30 seconds would probably help put things in context.
Also, Mick always says he doesn't know what to do with muff pedals, and then just rips! Muffs are one of my favorite types of pedals. Always fun to see BOTH of you play them since you make them sound so good! Thanks for another great show.
Hey Dan. God bless. With that new amp you have the best of both worlds. That means you don’t need your 61’ Vox. Can I borough it??? LOL
God bless you guys from Puerto Rico. Love your show!!!
Cheers from Coatia lads! Thouroughly enjoyed this one!
+Nikola Brkljačić cheers N :)
Thanks for the Tuesday video. I'm digging that analog delay: it's the perfect size, the jacks are top-mounted, there tap tempo with subdivisions, a tone control, modulation, a master volume and it sounds great. I'm not sure what more you'd want in an analog delay pedal to fit on a small board.
Thanks. I had a look and the feature set, size and price are very similar. The wider box allowed them to put all the controls on the front. I actually wanted a shorter maximum delay time, such as the Memory Man Deluxe 550-TT, but that pedal would take up way too much room. Less BBD chips usually means a bit less high end rolloff and distortion, as far as I know.
The lead singer/co lead guitarist in my band has that Southland and my god. Through his deville is just insane, if you could foot switch between about 9:00 gain and 4:00 gain you wouldn't need both an overdrive and a fuzz. That thing is crazy.
guys. smashing good !
i love my vibe machine.... best i've tried !
Man, that Les Paul with the Southland had a kind of "Spoonman" vibe to it. :)
Every Friday I watch you guys and I'm compelled to pick up my guitar and practice. Thanks for that!
You’re very welcome ;)
Finally ! A TPS episode without acoustic guitars :D
Hahahannnn
+CaptainSexy90 apparently it’s been a long couple of weeks ;)
It has.. I've watched so many re-runs it's insane.
You guys need to test stacking the Light Speed and the Southland together. Apparently, Nick Greer specifically designed them with stacking one another in mind. Supposedly they produce a lot of harmonics and other good stuff when stacked. Haven't tested it myself, but I love my Light Speed. Most likely gonna pick up the Southland in the near future thanks to y'all two killers!
Cheers
The Lightspeed and Southland are both made to stack together and with other pedals. There are some artists that use the Lightspeed as a boost in line with another Lightspeed, set for bigger sound. Works great. They never turn the first Lightspeed off. Ha.
Well my Tuesday just started off with an unexpected bonus.
Eran Montiel mine ended with this video.
that was rad
@Dan those notes at the beginning are supreme.
Cheers Tony :)
Nice amp, Dan!
Well done! You’ve inspired a painful quantity of amp lust deep in my heart while adding a few pedals to my list.
Would love to see EHX’s new Triangle Big Muff on the show, sometime. (The Blurst too, but that may be a bridge too weird.)
We shall do that Zach. It’s time it got muffy around here!
Man, guys. Dude. I love pretty much everything about that Ram's Head. My early 2000's black Russian Muff is in the process of going the way of the dodo. I think I've found its replacement.
I effing love your show, gentlemen. You always bring us new and exciting things to want. And as a recording engineer, you've helped me grow my ability to achieve and capture great guitar tones. Cheers!
Wow! Hi praise indeed! Thanks for the kind words - it means a lot to us that this stuff is genuinely useful to people. :9)
+The NotSoGuitarGuy Dan here, it’s epic! Thanks for watching NSGG :)
Nice
Hi guys, I have some ideas for new episodes.
1. How to make your sound fit in the mix. You would just need to have a band backing track at a reasonable vol. Show us the process of tailoring EQ and gain stacking, relative to the other instruments, to be able to be heard, without being too loud.
2. How to approach recreating a sound you've heard on an album etc. You could have Mick playing a particular sound, with pedal board covered, and then get Dan to go through the process of identifying EQ curve, gain characteristics, modulation etc to try and re-create Dan's sound.
+C. P. I like it, except we’ll use a band instead of backing tracks :)
@@ThatPedalShow 👍
I know this is about the pedals, but daaaaamn both Mick and Dan... you guys make those guitars *sing*. Sterling technique and touch.
Ah, cheers Tom, that’s very kind :)
Need more beer chat. The Sainsbury's taste the difference summer beer is pretty good btw
Vick Audio Ram's Head - affordable and tone for DAYS. Gilmour heaven.
Always enjoyable boyz. Thx. Any opportunity to look at the Beetronix Overhive at some point in the future? Sounds like a killer pedal...but the final jury would be Dan and Mick.
Very nice intro there!
Thank you!
I likes me the pick n mix. Always did. I'll take a quarter of pineapple chunks, Uncle Joe's Mint Balls, and that Dry Bell Vibe. Thanks!
+Sam Banham hahahah
I've said it elsewhere, but I really think Greer should put the Lightspeed and the Southland in a dual pedal. One being a natural extension of the other. I'd love it if they'd do that and give you the option of either stacking or toggling between the two. Not everyone is a stacker.:-)
Nice nice nice. Would surely be popular!
You'd think so :-)
Thanks for another great show. I would love some tips on how to use Big Muff style pedals without them getting lost in the mix. Maybe you could do a Fuzz How To show.
Hope you get to try the Drybell Unit 67 soon guys, it's amazing!
I could not agree more!
33:43 Dan is my spirit animal!
Grrrrr ;)
Greer Little Samson is another great pedal. It's like the big bad brother to the Lightspeed & Southland.
Wampler Pantheon coming up on TPS anytime soon? I know you want to!
HEY GUYS! 5:44 man that two rock sounds so nice just clean with the strat!
+ben galvin Dan here, yep, all my amps now have Mick’s TR as a bench mark, and it’s a bloody tough ask
that fuzz 😱😍
Mick last week ‘All my Strats really hate me right now’. This week - Mick’s intro - yeah right! I wish my guitars hated me that much too!
Thank you! That one seemed to work okay today. Maybe because I’d been playing it a bit more. :0)
WIHA screwdriver!!! Good choice!
Is it Friday?...oh well. I’ll enjoy this video anyway 😎...wait, what Eq the Reverb. 🙏
It amazes me how you guys can get a beautiful tone out of anything. I’m pretty sure you could plug a lead into an empty tin can, and it’ll still come out sounding amazing.
Mayyyyyyybe. But don’t forget the basics. Nice guitars, really nice amps, fantastic switching and power... Get the basics right then indeed anything has a good chance of sounding good.
Nice mics and Universal Audio hardware/software helps as well. It’s a good start point. :0)
That Pedal Show, I think your fingers have quite a bit to do with it bud.
Thank you. That helps too. :0)
I'd offer whatever Vertex "Dumble" pedal they tried, and the Metal Zone as possible counterexamples. But they are thin on the ground.
I am now selling Tin Cans for £149.95.
Well, since we are apparently are entertaining pedal review requests, may I suggest taking a good look at any of Meris' pedals: The Mercury7 Reverb, Polymoon Delay, Ottobit Jr. Bitcrusher (et al) or the new Enzo Multi-voice synthesizer....
When you guys are having a beer, I always want to join in!! The problem is that these get released at 8am Atlantic time... a bit of an early start!! Now, you're not only contributing to my GAS, but my juvenile delinquency, as well!!
Hahaha!!! Morning beer buzz is the best of all. Not great for life however. :0)
Hey I work nights I’ve had many morning beers 😄. You just don’t drink later that’s all. 🤘
It seems like finding a good medium gain pedal would be the easiest thing in the world, but in reality, I have found excellent light gain pedals and great distortions, fuzzes and heavy gain, but a fat medium gain pedal AC/DC style is often hard to find. At least good ones. I tried the .45 cal by J Rockett and it's great but not QUITE enough gain on tap. A Rat is too much for medium gain. But this Southland does this Goldilocks thing perfectly. A medium gain terror! Ordered it today to pair with my Light Speed pedal.
Hey guys...
Would be nice to see some pairings of pedals which are new to the market...
Maybe some classics in combination would be a steal! Maybe on tuesdays?
Great to see the return of PickNMix, especially with such an awesome selection of pedalboard contenders! On the day, for me at least, the Southland was the standout performer, but I’m not sure you got the best out of the Floyd Fuzz. Dan was spot on about the true worth of a Ram’s Head Muff being the violin-like tones that you can generate at low-to-moderate gain settings, but the response to guitar volume and its ability to “play well with others” are also important. I’d have liked to hear Mick’s Strat working the volume pot and playing with an Electric Mistress and the Panther Cub in front of the Big Chopper. That’s how you get the David Gilmour sounds of the Animals and Wall era. Perhaps the main reason Mick can’t get on with big muffs is his preference for mid-light Fendery amps; pedals like the Floyd really need amps with a beefy mid-range to truly shine.
Plenty of people on this channel have requested an episode on Gilmour tones and several have proposed inviting Bjorn Riis onto the show to help you do it, but I can see why you guys are reluctant to start down the single-artist-tone route. Perhaps a compromise that would please everybody would be to get Bjorn on to demonstrate the tonal difference between the various flavours (Ram’s Head, Triangle, Sovtek, etc.) of big muffs out there, and to talk about how they work with boosts, modulation and other effects. For example, I’ve found using an MXR 6-band EQ directly in front of my Vick Audio ‘73 Ram’s Head, and taking all frequencies down below unity, helps me get an even creamier response from the muff pedal at low-gain settings. I offer this idea only as an illustration of how muffs in general (and this splendid Floyd Fuzz in particular) need understanding in detail if users like Mick are going to get comfortable with them, and discover how to release their full potential. As I told somebody on another channel who complained about his newly acquired big muff “sounding like an angry wasp”, if that’s what you’re hearing, you’re either plugged into the wrong amp or else you’re dialling it in wrong. If you guys are really into “asking better questions” (as I’m sure you are) there’s plenty to be asked and answered here!
All good Steve - Mick here. Would be great to get Bjorn on. The Muff just isn’t my thing, even in its prime setting. Driving a Power Boost into a Hiwatt, maybe. But still not really. We should do it anyway to keep you Muff lovers happy!
Thanks Mick! We’re always happy out here in Pedal Show land (on Fridays anyway, and now again on Tuesdays) but a Bjorn again muffs show would certainly add to the joy - at least for the discerning amongst us. Of course, others might want to cancel their subscriptions ... but hey ho!
3:10 I truly thought the Way Huge Supa-Puss was the first analog delay with tap tempo, but research shows that yes the Panther did beat its release by a matter of months. Interesting.
Simon on the show: like Dan en Mick meets 'Simon?' :D
A video about pedal modding? (better in/out jacks, change switch, true bypass, add buffer (e.g. Analogman) etc.)
Sooo happy Pick'nMix is back!!
...and it's finally about pedals again ;))
Have to say ALL the ones you selected here are awesome sounding (for me not always the case)!
- I can't believe you torture this exclusive community with those crappy amps :))) -
And since I'm at it - I wish for two show themes: "Headroom - Pedals/Amps - and the effect on sound" and "Effect loops - difference of Serial, Parallel, why are they are so varying in quality? / Beside FX pedals, can/shall I put boost, OD, pre-Amp pedals?"
Two fantastic selections Volker. Consider them added to the list! Thanks for watching!
‘Oh man, everyday” - yeeeees! Dan you legend, you turned me on to fuzz. Here I am, a Sunface and 2 PigDogs later (and a Hudson in the post...), now I’m thinking that Floyd Fuzz needs a space on the board too. Though the I’m keeping an eye out for Shin-Ei reissues soon. Aargggh, the other kidney’s going on the market (could be risky). Anyway, another awesome show from the 2 best gents on RUclipsLand. Happy Tuesday!
+Craig S with those fuzzes Craig I think you’ll love the Floyd fz, it’s different from those others, smoother but not sterile or overly compressed, sounds awesome :)
That Pedal Show thanks so much for the reply - I hears you! And btw, Mick’s sound from 33:40 with all pedals-to-the-metal was a thing of beauty and a joy forever. In fact....I must watch this episode again right now.
That Pedal Show oops my bad.....just got another PigDog (the Prosecutor Mk II.v). This fuzz obsession is your fault Steinhardt! :} I totally get it though...flavours of funky fuzzness. It’s just glorious.
"and together..." FUCKING AWESOME SOUND
Aha! Yeah baby!
Greetings from Germany!
Greetings to Germany!
Univibe pedal show using the Vibe Machine, Korg Nuvibe, Dunlop Rotovibe, Shin-ei Vibe-Bro, and 2 or 4 stage phaser(s) with fuzz, od, and wah.
I'd want the TC Electronic Viscous Vibe in there as well so we can get an idea of how a 'budget' univibe stacks up against the boutique ones. Add in a Keeley Monterey, Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe, Carl Martin Purple Moon and a Wilson Haze ...... and I'd be doing half the show myself! :D
+1 on the Viscous Vibe!!
Keeley Monterey and Korg Nuvibe are featured in this episode ruclips.net/video/GgvrW5ug6xw/видео.html . Maybe an episode about phasers vs uni vibes vs rotary/Leslie , when and how to use each, it is confusing to me, must be for others too.
I'd like to hear the BJF MInt Green Vibe and, for a budget option, the NU>X Monterey (which is awesome imo).
The BJF Bearfoot pedal is really versatile. It can sound like a classic vibe, subtle or deep throb, and it does a pretty good impersonation of a phaser as well
Yeah, they did both the Keeley Monterey and the Keeley Dark Side, both of which have Univibe and Rotary sounds. I preferred the Dark Side (and have one), as I can get my Hendrix tones with other pedals, but the Monterey is excellent.
