  • 2023 was a historic year for worker strikes, from the Hollywood actors and writers to the United Auto Workers. The labor movement seems to be prepared to continue to march on into 2024, with Starbucks (SBUX) saying it wants to resume talks with unionized workers and Teamsters working at Anheuser-Busch (BUD) voting to authorize a strike. David Madland, Center for American Progress, joins Yahoo Finance's Brook DiPalma to discuss the labor movement for 2023 as well as take a look a head into 2024, and the lessons that can be learned from previous strikes.
Madland comments on the potential push to unionize workers at Tesla (TSLA) facilities: "After the big agreement between the UAW and the Big Three, the President of the UAW said we're going to to now organize nonunion facilities and name checked Tesla. So I can imagine a big push by the UAW to organize Tesla and all the other nonunion plants because the big concern is the future of the auto workers in electric vehicles. They really need to ensure that those future jobs are unionized. The contracts they signed with the Big Three gave them a foothold in the electric vehicle industry, but now they really need to transition to the other competitors there. I expect a big push in 2024 to do so."
