Thanks for reacting to this amazing piece. It nearly blew me off my chair with its rapids of Billy Mackenzie's soaring vocals, rhythm guitar keyboards and beefy drums. I heard their other song "Party Fears 2!". His vocals reminds me of Russel Maels of the group "Sparks!" Or The Cure's Robert Smith, to an extent. In relation to being frozen to look younger, some tv make up artist said that dunking your face into a bowl of water with ice cubes in it, is good for your skin! Said artist even dunked their face into icy water bowl with cubes!

Amazing band, I had the album Sulk which has some great tunes on it, his voice was a bit marmite you either loved it or hated it. This song has great memories for me from back clubbing in the 80s, along with Party Fears Two :)

Billy had the best voice I have ever heard! Born in Dundee Scotland, should have been a major worldwide star but his reluctance to tour America put paid to that. Here is a tribute from Bono of U2 ruclips.net/video/R0LizS-S0lM/видео.html

Absolutely love this track. Much before my time but it’s so good. Those vocals are unmatched. The songwriting!! Outstanding. The song was initially inspired by Billy’s local old people home but like most songs, it takes inspiration from many other areas too. Billy was an introvert at heart and the fame game didn’t sit well with him. In terms of notoriety, the back stabbing, the you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours type thing, it’s was all a bunch of obnoxious, fake and vain people desperately trying to hold on to the fame they once had. In his head, all these people would end up at the country club being looked after by others hand and foot, getting all these treatments to try and remain as youthful as possible. It’s really a big F U to the industry because Billy didn’t want all that. That’s not what gave him fulfilment and this was a statement of intend that he would do things his way. Not play the fame game, not tour America and so on. Very talented guy in terms of vocal and writing ability but also very wise. A good Dundee, Scotland lad who did good. He’s also very well thought of by his peers. The legit ones though that are also super talented and not necessarily playing the game. Great reaction.

Hello gpreactions, how're you doing? Great song choice here. This was my first intro to the Associates. As a bass player myself, the thing I immediately gravitated towards was Michael Dempsey's frantic bassline in this.
As a fan of Dempsey's early days as The Cure's original bassist and his work with them on their debut album, this bassline felt very much akin to those heard on some of the basslines on _'Three Imaginary Boys',_ in my opinion.
I'm glad to see you're making and uploading new videos. I haven't been on RUclips too much for a while so, I look forward to checking out your new content. As always, greetings from the West Texan desert. Have a good one...
[P.S. I agree with you on the Morten Harket look. I also see a bit of Joseph Gordon Levitt as well]

You had to hear Billy Mac live to fully appreciate his amazing voice. I was fortunate enough to see the band three times in the summer of 1980 and managed to have a quick word with Billy at the end of one performance. I was a bit pissed but i still remember shaking his hand and telling him that if there was any justice he would be a big star. He was actually a shy lad and wasn't comfortable with fame. He never recovered from his mother's passing which affected him enormously. R.I.P. Billy, one of the truly great Scottish singers.

While I'm here I'd like to recommend another great Scottish singer/songwriter Jackie Leven who is also no longer with us. This would be a nice introduction if you are not aware of him. Never properly appreciated it's fair to say he left behind a host of wonderful songs across some 20-plus albums.

Luved Billy Mackenzie's,voice. The lovely Martha Ladley of MATM fame. Check out some of their vids. They r really good. You should react to Japan. If u have'nt done so already. One of/if not the best of the new wave acts of the late 70's,early 80's. Try: Quiet Life, Ghosts, ISTE, GTP, Life in Tokyo, my fav song by them, have it on 12" Red Vinyl, and the track David Sylvian did with Ryuichi.Sakamoto Forbidden Colours.
He must have had a real affection for Japan and China.lol. Playing their Greatest Hits, on my new C.D Walkman, the sound quality is brilliant, no skipping. Luving the album, all the tracks are classics.v.synthy.
Got some nice goodies, in the post today. The Stones Singles Box Set-63-66, Beatles Singles Box-62-72, in lovely repro sleeves from around the world. And Queen, The Platinum Collection, on gorgeous coloured vinyl. Have,nt played the Queen and Beatles records yet, i should be in for a real treat. Sound great on my new A.T 12O-XUSB ,one of the best low budget turntables, the sound q, is amazing, even the Stones singles most recorded in Mono, sound amazing.
Going having my tea in a bit. Having Curry & Chips and a Nan bread, have'nt had much to eat today
    ttyl take care.

Played this a lot in May 2020 for during youknowwhat. Alan Rankine can be seen performing the bass riff on this platform somewhere. Yes it was Martha and the Muffins! Martha Ladly wasn't the lead singer though apparently

Just Sheer class. His voice was amazing and his solo stuff proved how well he'd learned his craft. Sadly he was a real jack the lad who just couldn't play the music industry game or maybe he played them at their own game too well. Tragically the struggle with his mental health proved too much. I don't believe there was a new romantic act who didn't wish for even a piece of what Billy had. His version of Diana Ross-Love Hangover was genius. This track is great and wish to God he was still with us
