Keep your videos coming -THEY ARE AMAZING !!!!
Thanks again for your kind comments Bernie, really appreciated.
Thanks Richard
No problem at all . .glad you liked it.
Bikkies and tea - priceless!
It makes it all worthwhile Rod ...!!!!
The tripod apron, is used in studio work. I usually have my light meter there. As for the small clamps I use these in wood work. Mine look like yours and the orange pad fall out
Good idea, let's see if we can find a better clamp. Plastic bags LOL! I always, have several plastic bags in my back pocket but for a different reason. I travel with a dog! Thank you for the cold shoe tip. Merry Christmas Richard.
Thanks again for your great comments, always appreciated my friend. Yes the orange pads do fall off .. but they don't do anything anyway. All the very best for Christmas.
Richard, necessity is the mother of invention. Have a problem and jerry-rig something to find a solution. You’re the man, great video…
Thanks so much for watching Carl
Yes you have the best Tripod made ! I have the same and are looking to get a smaller lighter one for our trip to Oz in March, be over for about 11 days to visit my wifes sister in Foster. The weather is the same here, very warm with rain in the afternoons ! Hope its better in March for some of the fantastic bird life over there, Cheers for another great video !
Thanks for watching Royce. I've had some great experiences with these particular tripods.
"something is brewing" - I was expecting to see a kettle and rumballs! Great video and lots of solid advice. I will be searching for those granit straps, they look good. Keep up the good work but have a great christmas.
Thanks so much my friend, and you also have a wonderful Christmas season.
Thanks for all the good tips, well explained. The wind over past few days is a challenge for photography, almost need to anchor ourselves 😆.
Yes it has been quite unsettled here as well.
Thanks you for video, good accessories.
I appreciate you watching my friend.
Thanks Richard. Particularly taken by the cold shoe mount as I've just started to use a remote trigger. Yongnuo, of course :).
Yes I've ben using them for years John.
Morning Richard little odds and sods ,great tips, thankyou
You're very welcome Phillip, hope you're well.
Excellent ideas Ricard, thank you and Merry Xmas.
Always appreciate you watching Les. Same to you.
Thanks so much for these budget friendly tips Richard. I am always facing tripod accidents 😅Going to try some of these.
Thank you so much for watching Evangeline. Much appreciated.
I have the AS90C tripod and LOVE it, very study and can change between my Ball Head, Gimble Head and Wedge Head quickly. Really great ideas you shared and I'm going to start using some.
Yes I think they are very under rated tripods Steve. Thanks for watching.
Ooooh is that a Z/V bracket 😄 Have a look at Silence Corner ATOLL - they're way better than L brackets!
Yes indeed Alyn . .I already have one .. just getting used to it now. Yes that's a V bracket ..!!!
Awesome video Richard and lots of great tips!
Thanks a lot Mike and Chris. Hope you're both going well. All the very best for the Christmas season.
Great video... some low cost so worthy.. thank you so much for it.
Thanks so much for watching Luis
Lots of great ideas, Richard. Thanks for sharing.. With regard to mounting a remote trigger or an intervalometer to the top of your tripod, what I use is a piece of the same double sided velcro that you use and wrap it on the top of one of the legs. I have leg wraps from LensCoat on my tripods and I just put it above one of them, but you can usually wrap them fairly tightly so that they won't slide down easily if you don't have a leg wrap. Or you can stick on a piece of velcro to the metal apex of the tripod. Then I put a piece of the mating velcro on the remote (battery door is a good spot) and then you can quickly mount it to the tripod. I use the fuzzy (loop) half of the velcro on the remote so that it doesn't catch on clothing, etc., if I put in my pocket.
Very good ideas there Robert. It's amazing what we can come up with to solve a problem isn't it. Appreciate you watching.
another useful info.
Thanks Richard
Thanks so much for watching again my friend.
Heaps of good tips Richard, thanks as always
You're welcome as always Eric, thanks heaps for watching.
Thanks for another interesting video Richard. Anything that saves us a bit of money is welcome. As usual your presentation style and enthusiasm are a joy to watch.
Many thanks indeed Andy .. always appreciated.
Great job Richard - those accessories certainly come in handy. Those tripod feet for extra stability is such a good idea. Thanks for sharing mate 👍🙏
You're very welcome Adrian. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season mate.
Great tips Richard, always looking at cheaper options where possible 👍
You're very welcome Dennis, hope it's helpful.
Love that clip/cable lock... BTW, I still have my old scuba weights they work great, and they're on a belt!
I reckon those scuba weights would be awesome. Thanks again for watching.
As always another good video with some tips and tricks 👍
Thanks as always for watching Alan.
Some great practical ideas in there Richard. I was half expecting to see a home made rum ball holder off the side of your tripod, but guess they don't hang around long enough for you to need that really 🙂.
Haha, what a great idea ...!!! Thanks again for watching Dominic.
Great tips on this one, Richard. I use many of those things as well. I recently bought that plate with the spirit level to use with my tracker tripod - a bowl head video tripod. I placed mine upside down and glued another spirit level onto the bottom (now top), so I have a flat surface all around the tripod head. I use a Sunwayfoto head as my equatorial wedge, and it's narrower, so I'm able to temporarily place additional levels on that plate around the perimeter of the wedge when I'm leveling everything.
One thing I've gotten into recently is using those strong neodymium magnets for securing gear to my tripods - buy the self-adhesive metal plates really cheap. I use bicycle mount magnets, but I have also fashioned lower profile mounts using corrugated plastic - just slice through a couple of the dividers to thread velcro straps through, then adhere the magnet to the plastic. I can affix my phone, power banks, remotes, external monitors to my tripods all much more securely than all the various photo gear clamping options that I've encountered.
Those are all excellent ideas Derek. Magnets and velcro go hand in hand I reckon. All the very best for the Christmas season.
I value you Richard. Just want you to know that. We have very different styles in composition and lighting, but I LOVE watching your adventures and journey anyway. I'm 26 in the US and have been doing astro for about 4 years now seriously and honestly hope to be just like you when I'm...whatever age you are 😂😬. still a long way to go to perfect and optimize my workflow and my composition skills are certainly further behind than my processing skills. Hope you're having a great Summer and start to 2023!
Thanks so much for your kind words Caleb. I very much appreciate your support. I always say the journey is the most important aspect to this .. enjoy it as we learn new things ... it's a lifetime experience my friend.
Hi Caleb, what Richard is saying is 100% my experience too. I've rode bmx for 20 years.. to the point of riding contests and having (small) sponsors. The best part about bmx was learning tricks, not riding contests. It's a different kind of satisfaction you get out of learning something; and it's a thing that bmx lost as tricks became more dangerous to keep progressing. My progression stalled and there was no more fun in it for me. Keep that in mind :)
Always get great tips from you. Thank you so much for more! I am going to have to try the remote transmitter in a cold shoe. I always have had mine in the camera's hot shoe and wondered why the exposure time varied. Maybe that is the secret? Anyway, I will be trying it soon when the weather warms up!
I've not seen that happen Andrea .. but you never know. Thanks as always for watching.
Another great video Richard. Its always the way, weather gods not playing nice anyway clear skies. 🖖
Haha, yes you're right Gavin ... and it wasn't even night time ..!!! Thanks for watching.
GREAT tips, Richard! I tend to over think things and these solutions seen so simple but so practical!!
Yes we all do that Gary .. especially night photographers . .!!! Thanks for watching.
Thanks Richard, awesome ideas. Things I would never have thought of. And thanks for getting wet 😅 👍
Haha, well at least I brought along a cuppa .. !!! Thanks as always for watching mate.
Hello from New Delhi, India
I want you to know that you r doing a great job.
It's appreciated, valued & loved
Keep walking 🚶
Thank you so much my friend, I appreciate you watching.
Good tips Richard. I also like to carry velcro. One other thing I have on hand just in case is disposable hand warmer and a sock . By putting the hand warmer in the sock and velcro around the lens makes a good dew heater.
Thanks a lot Bruce. Yes it's amazing what you can use with velcro isn't it ...!!!
Great ideas and nothing breaks the bank! I really like your Manfrotto to Arca Swiss conversion’s. That would solve a big problem for me as I use Manfrotto plates also. I picked up 3 of the plate adapters to use on top of the ballheads I have, but being able to just use the arca plates with the Manfrotto gives me more options. I have the older version of the pistol grips on my 2 tripods but would like to go to a good ballhead mount on my next tripod. I also have reflective tape that is used on emergency vehicles on both my tripods. Being a fireman in the past I it the scraps they threw out when they came to do new trucks with it. Thank you for sharing Richard.
Nothing wrong with using the straps John. Thanks heaps for watching my friend.
the clamp rock idea is awesome, super simple and quick if you have a lot of rocks. but of course the sandbag option is best if you'll be near your car/van
Thanks for watching. Yes all of these simple ideas work well .. depending on each particular location.
Richard, your channel has fast become my favorite night time photography channel. I sure wish I knew how to adapt the Manfrotto to Archa last night, as I have been agonizing over which heavier duty tripod to buy for night photography. I ended up going with a Leofoto, but would have stuck to Manfrotto, had I known this was possible. Please keep up the great work, I've watched a bunch of your videos. I'm still not sure how to do the light painting and then take myself out of the pictures when stacked.. could you touch on that again in a future video? TY from New York state in the US.
Thanks for your kind words of encouragement Jessica . .it means a lot. I do have quite a few videos on editing the light painted shots .. but in a nutshell. You create layers masks and simple erase yourself out. Hopefully this video will help: ruclips.net/video/0r4Z94uondI/видео.html
Very useful!
Thanks heaps for tuning in.
Great simple tricks to improve shooting experience. It is a bit easier if going by car. For me bike is the transportation and therefore much more limited in amount of gear I can bring.
Wow, I don't know how you do it . .I'd never get anywhere by bike around here ...!!!
@@nightscapeimages.richard Bike trailer does the job, but still limited to distance. So maybe next time when it windy and it rains and you have cuppa inside your car, think of others who are not so lucky 😂😂😂. Joke aside, it's all about passion and will. Unfortunately it seems that in near future photos will be created on a computer and no one will bother themself to go out in the middle of nowhere to take milky way shots, ai is really taking over fast.
@@miloradkaravidin8818 Yes the AI is a real problem . .and I agree with you . .we are on borrowed time I feel.
Some very good suggestions Richard! Thanks for sharing!
@@Interbeing_CDN You're very welcome Todd. Thanks for watching.
I really enjoy your energy, Richard, it's contagious! Really enjoying the content as well! Pretty sure i edited my first composition in 4 years, and for the first time did the 'reduce stars' magic, going off your instructions. That was last week, on pictures taken on my phone. In a bortle 4/5, still came out awesome! Thanks for taking the effort of making those videos! Editing is a lot of work
Thanks heaps for watching, I'm really pleased you got something out of it.
I love your videos. I was wondering how much time it gets this time to pull out the cuppa. A nice break in between the hard work outside is an important part of the whole endeavour, isn't it? The clamp trick is neat, I have to check my local shop for these.
Thanks so much for watching Jaroslav. I do try to make time for a cuppa when I'm out there filming these videos.
Allô! You’re so beautiful to look at. So interesting to listen to! I luv ya, always!
Haha, you're so funny Carole. Thanks for your ongoing support my friend.
@@nightscapeimages.richard
So obvious that you’re the BEST of them all! ♥️♥️♥️
Very clever tips and tricks Richard. Any chance of listing names of the stabilising tripod leg clamps, and the 3 point tripod weight stabiliser as I have difficulty with finding those on ebay. Thanks Richard
Thanks so much for watching my friend. I made the leg clamps out of the clamps and pieces of metal lying around home. The clamps are these. www.ebay.com.au/itm/165819051307?hash=item269b95ed2b:g:chUAAOSwLwBjiVp~&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoGrJhc4yyyKcHpTbNPUJCG3ExO0WSPKwbc0CEq6PlDBEjDSHsgagRlq%2BOBt4nzbxJOUhiySkytzgljZuoPsJ3QdaXufN3oM3VU17%2FVWgoXqQDVtztskFt%2FEXByppP2JmqBmSkIBBz6ylIp%2B3SK8AKCLJZCWeOo3U0NR4dXXtJGVPt4CK8sJBLifbPZtRa8q5gUMYRPBi%2BjGzyn7N%2FQaS7gA%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_bq-b2nYQ
The 3 point tripod item is called a stone bag. Thanks for a great video Richard. Where can we find more info on the (litium?) battery chargers that you use?
Thanks so much for watching. I have referred to them quite a few times. Clearly you love the cheapo shops
Yes I sure do.
Nice great tips Richard , would the ARTCISE carbon fibre tripod be a good travelling one?( overseas) Many thanks
I think the one I have may be a little too big to use as a travelling tripod Dazza .... however they do make smaller units.
4.27 just wanted to make sure it's AS80C instead of the AC80C, correct? I just purchased AS80C after watching the video and i hope i purchased the right one😊
Yes it is definitely AS80C. Sorry for the misprint. I don't think there is any such thing as AC80C
Thanks for the tips. But I didn´t get that with the bag between the legs of the tripod. It looks like manufactured. But I can´t find a link to buy it. Or did you do it yourself?
Thanks for looking Martin. They call them stone bags. @@nightscapeimages.richard Thank you!
Hi Richard, I keep meaning to ask. What is the GPS unit you have on the dash of your Subaru
It's a Garmin Dezl 770 A few years old now so maybe something new available these days. It's been really good though.
Where do you get your tripods??
I bought these from Amazon. www.amazon.com.au/ARTCISE-Carbon-Fiber-Tripod/dp/B08M9MYNDR/ref=asc_df_B08M9MYNDR/?tag=googleshopdsk-22&linkCode=df0&hvadid=463597831805&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5586712429387049438&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9071496&hvtargid=pla-1159443381035&psc=1
Oh wow you really do get your cameras Down Low?
Yes I sure do John .. very often I have that remote receiver touching the ground.
MacGyver
Haha, yes I used to love that show.
@@nightscapeimages.richard it was huge in Brazil. Until today the guys who improvise for anything on mechanics, engineering etc are called MacGyver haha
