    just upgraded due to a problem with my previous sena srl 2 to this on my shoei gt air 2. well there is no comparison between the two.. the mesh variant even if you dont use the mesh is a must , waaaaaaaaaay better sound and volume , better battery life and charging time , type c usb charging port... i would say if you are looking at these two go with the mesh the srl 2 does not make sense as an option.

    Ive been using the Sena 20S as an intercom between my wife (pillion) and myself since 2015 and love them. Last year I need to replace and aging and stinky Scorpion helmet. I really like the design and features of the Scorpion but sadly Scorpion has changed the design. So I started looking for another brand with a drop down sunshield. My original intent was to transfer the 20S over to my new lid….. or at least thats what I was hoping for. It seems helmet manufacturers have conspired to make this an impossible task. Most put the sunshield actuator right where the 20S would mount to the helmet rim…. I looked at the Air2 and really liked the layout and features of it but unless I glue the bracket to the helmet there is no way of properly mounting the quick connect bracket to the helmet.
    So I broke down and bought the Air2 AND the Sena SRL2 since it was compatible with the 20s on my wifes helmet.
    Installation was easy despite the tiny poor installation drawings. After installation I wanted to fully charge the unit prior to trying it out. It was at that point my first negative impression surfaced. You must place your entire helmet either on the floor or a counter with access to an AC outlet. I have a charging station set up for phones, tablet, laptops, Sena, etc…. However there is not enough room to accommodate placing the helmet there. It was very convenient to unclip the 20’s and plug them in. Pairing was easy and the operation was decent but sometimes very frustrating. For example. The intercom function is sometimes deafening while trying to hear turn by turn directions is barely audible.
    About a year in my unit developed an irritating habit of not being able to turn the device on or off while wearing the helmet. I pulled out the instructions and confirmed the two button press but was only able to turn it off by taking the helmet off. Additionally, this device would drop connection with the 20s. The is strange considering my wife was sitting right behind me. I tried software updates and factory reset but neither worked.
    Thankfully, Sena customer service replaced my unit. I haven’t had too much opportunity to really try it out since my wife and I haven’t had time to go for a ride. But so far the unit is powering without issue.
    Im still flustered by the volume issues for both the 20 and SRL. Not sure why it just cant be consistent as sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
    I would have preferred to find a suitable helmet and keep using the 20s. But sadly, the helmet manufacturers had something else in mind. I did transfer the 20s mount to my HJC dual sport helmet. I really like the fact that it is cheaper to buy a second or third bracket than hae to buy a complete separate unit for each helmet.
    Given the choice, I would probably not buy a Shoei Air2 as the helmet is very noisy compared to the Scorpion. But feature and usability wise it was the best option at the time.
    Sorry for the long winded post. Just wanted to pass along my experience with the Shoei and the SRL2.

    I have owned a number of Sena units prior to buying the Shoei Neotec II and, in general, have been very happy with them. I decided to buy the SRL Mesh unit for the helmet and I am disappointed.
    The system is buggy - after using the Mesh system you need a system power off and back on to turn on the Radio.
    You can't raise the volume level quickly as it assumes you want another function when pressing the buttons quickly. The Radio volume around town 20-40mph is fine. Above 45 mph it's terrible - no the automatic volume reduction is not activated so it's not mistaking the wind noise for speech.
    The Voice commands don't work very well - sometimes not all all until the system is powered off and on again.
    Sena's support leaves a lot of be desired - sometimes they reply after a couple of weeks, sometime never. And, often, when submitting a support request the website responds with: _There was a problem submitting the form. Please try again later._

      You've activated the VOX comms in the settings to try it out too? I've always struggled w/ Sena's assistant which is why I love using Google / Apples and having the newer BT's piggyback off them. Sena (or Cardo for that matter) can try all they want but they can never compete with the $$$ Apple / Google have invested in their assistants ha

      @@rainman1356 Yeah I've always had tough luck with the Sena version but it does occasionally work for me if I say it the right way or in some instances scream it inside my helmet ha. Luckily, Siri / Google can do all of the Sena tasks so as long as your phone is authorized to use them when the phone is locked (likely in your pocket), thats the true golden ticket. That's why I was so stocked when they started piggy-backing off Apple/Google's billion-dollar tech instead of their own hundred-dollar tech ha

    • @christopherhamm1574
      @christopherhamm1574 2 года назад

      The helmet manufacturers need to revamp their designs too. I prefer a drop down sunshield. My Scorpion worked flawlessly and the lever was put in a very convenient location…. The helmets I see today put that actuator right where the 20s mount would go. The best I could do was the noisy Air2 with its low profile ( hard to find with gloves on) drop down visor slide.
      I love my 20s too. I find them much easier to use.

    • @patrickmchugh8039
      @patrickmchugh8039 2 года назад +1

      It's unlikely any crazy BT innovations will be coming since Mesh is a better technology for this application. I'd imagine both brands will start innovating Mesh and evolving it while BT comms becomes a secondary feature like FM radio has to BT music. At least, that is the way the wind is blowing for now ...

    When I got my Shoei Neotec II a few years back, I also got the original SRL. I have to be honest and say that it was utter trash. Its only redeeming feature was being integrated and built for that helmet. That selling point is probably what sold a majority of the original SRL series. It certainly wasn't by virtue of its performance as a coms unit. It was based on the older 20 series hardware and was released to consumers already outdated. Sena was well behind in sound quality compared to Cardo at the time, too. The Sena Device Manager software for updating firmware was and continues to be hot garbage.
    I love my Cardo PT Black, but when this SRL-Mesh came out, I gave Sena one more chance and installed it in my Shoei GT Air II. Having a coms unit built for your helmet is great. The SRL-Mesh is a definite improvement over the previous SRL hardware. The sound quality has improved with the move to H/K speakers, which is the parent company of JBL (which Cardo uses). The changes have really brought it up to today's standards. The Wi-Fi dongle to update the firmware is much better than the still terrible Sena Device Manager. They have basically addressed the major shortfalls of the previous series.

      Would you say the sound quality and volume while listening to music is comparable to the cardo packtalk with jbl speakers?

    • @SoDakTwisties
      @SoDakTwisties 2 года назад +2

      @@renedoring6970 The Sena SRL Mesh is most definitely not as good as the Cardo PackTalk w/ JBL speakers. The maximum volume is less on the Sena. I use nice earplugs with a filter to allow certain frequencies through, so the SRL Mesh is doable, but the Cardo is better. This is especially true at highway/interstate speeds. Around town without earplugs, they're both pretty on par.

    I want to know two things:
    1. Can it pair with Cardo mesh yet? My brother has Cardo, and making connection proprietary instead of open will decrease the enthusiasm factor, as Cardo is trying to make theirs open.
    2. I have a C5/SC2 combo and the speakers aren't very loud. Is the SRL3 better than the SC2? It'd cost me about $300 more to get the Neotech3/SRL3 combo compared to another C5/SC2 combo. I want to know if the SRL3 is that much better.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  10 месяцев назад +1

      Sadly it sounds like Sena's system no longer allows the Mesh to Mesh comms between the two brands after their last few updates, so no the two wouldn't be able to communicate via Mesh mode. BT comms would be the only option between brands. As for the speakers - they are the same and same tech from the SRL3 / SRL-Mesh, Harman Kardon powered speakers. FWIW though, there are a ton of riders using these speakers without volume issues (and have been for nearly 4-5 years). So you might want to check the app settings, the phone settings for volume, speaker location placement, or wear ear plugs to remove wind noise so the speaker's sound isn't drowned out by wind noise. We've used the HK speakers on a naked sport bike at highway speeds and still able to hear the music just fine. If you are still having issues, reach out to our Customer Service team and they can help you further.

    Ok does this Sena unit have a 2.5mm or 3.5mm aux OUT port? With my Sena 20S I use the 2.5mm AUX out with the supplied Sena cable into the 3.5mm I put of my GoPro to use the microphone boom as the microphone for my videos while motovlogging.
    Not having that 2.5mm AUX out is what's stalling me from buying this helmet if the Sena SRL doesn't have such a port

    • @RevZilla

      No, it doesn't have either port size. The speakers and everything are hardwired in and can't really be altered or customized for your video needs. You'd likely want to stick with the traditional MotoVlogging setup and side-mounted BT/Mesh unit.
