    Nice helping your friend out. While attending an outdoor birthday party yesterday about a dozen people start pointing to the sky saying 'what the hell is that ..balloon blimp thing'?? I felt like an expert and said with confidence 'that's called a powered paraglider'. Thanks Brian for making me look smart in front of the birthday crowd. lol P.S. First paraglider I have seen here in Delaware in the past 30 years, not common.

    Got a thermostat change ahead of me. I came here to peruse your videos for some hints and tips about changing various odds and ends in the coolant system. Once again, I've found myself hypnotised. Your vids are always interesting, informative and easy to get into and follow. Best comparison I can make is, you're like....the Bob Ross of car repair. Keep up the good work, and as always happy fixin'!

    A good thing to change too, is the distributor O-ring.
    I find that usually the distributor o-ring develops an oil leak, which drips its way to the hose, which blows it up "like a dead cow", then it eventually bursts.
    Awesome video man

      We just sealed this one up due to the electronic timing.

  • @lineartechbd1600
    @lineartechbd1600 8 лет назад +12

    I owned one of these exact cars. The reason the heater core hose bloats up like that is because the distributor O ring is leaking oil onto it. After a while, it gets soft and blows. I had to fix mine on the side of a dark highway 2hrs from home in the middle of nowhere . I just cut off the first 2 inches of bloated hose and reattached the hose. I had to drain my wiper fluid reservoir and use it as coolant. I had to add some club soda that I just happen to have in the car but i managed to get home without over heating.
    Also, you don't need to take the distributor cap off.

    I just bought this 02 h accord 4cyl 139000
    2 weeks in I got a coolant leak and hot sensor. Watching this vid and tracking on mine was an expect match. Except my hose didn’t have the clamp. Like ever. No marks or anything to indicate there had been a clamp. Gonna fill it and clamp it. Thank for the vid!

    Brian; I've a magnetizer too of course. Works like poop. I resort to the old wrap a wire around the screwdriver and touch each end to the battery posts. Never fails to magnetize... Like the 90 degree needle nose being adapted to actually grab new car hose clamps. Thanks again. JIm

    Check for engine oil dripping on hose. Distributor has two seals inner n outer that can leak on hose. This will cause the hose to swell up. Wipe underneath distributor to check for leak.

Long story short, I forgot I left it there and I slammed the hood on it. The hood was a little bent on that side after that.

      +briansmobile1 check "How Its made" they do a bit on how thermostats are made

    • @mrman17
      @mrman17 8 лет назад

      He is right - in most thermostats, the spring does keep it closed (this is why it's such a problem when the thermostat fails, causing the engine to overheat). The wax used has a high thermal expansion, enough to push the plunger and open the valve.
      Because of the wax, they are sometimes also called wax stats.

    • @leebarnes655
      @leebarnes655 8 лет назад +1

      I have an expired patent pertaining to the subject, the proper term is wax servo motor. High thermal expansion rate is misused bogus half truth info, the wax however does melt at different temperatures 160, 170, 180, 185 were always options in the older days and today 193,195 and 197. I say bogus because all wax has a high expansion rate upon melting, this stuff is nothing special in that regard, which is contraindicated by the misuse of superfluous factoids that actually get in the way, misleading more than they help. The wax is special but only because of it's precise melting point temperature. There is usually a divet in the bottom of the copper pellet, this is the area where the servo motor is 'tuned' to the proper opening load at a specific temperature. This allows automated mass production volumes while maintaining a consistently precise device.

    thank you for sharing this helpful video. I have a 2005 Honda civic which I love more than many people I know. she's been struggling lately tho and everybody tells me to trade it in while I still can, but I feel like there is hope. it seems that there is "too much " pressure happening. when we "fix ".one thing, the pressure finds a weak spot somewhere else. have now replaced the radiator for the second time since I bought it in 2008, new Thermostat , and mechanic used blue devil head gasket repair. when it made a "new ".leaking place, in a whole new spot, I am slowly giving up hope that I am going to fix the issue. is it time to cut losses? thank you for any ideas and for your time. believe it or not I was understanding a lot of what you were trying to show!

    My radiator leaking bad. Used bar leaks for a blown head gasket. Seemed like it fixed it but I was driving the car with a loose coil bolt and the coils came off as I was diving and the car overheated. When I opened the radiator noticed it was clogged. I took out the gray dust looking thing out the radiator and tried to fill it with coolant but it immediately leak outs at the bottom. Car starts fine after I let it cool down tough. I’m hoping replacing the radiator would fix the problem. Otherwise I’m stuck with a blown head gasket and a fucked up radiator.

  • @mrman17
    @mrman17 8 лет назад +2

    Hoses fail in that way ("swells up" and goes squidgy) due to oil contamination. They can take a little bit of dirt and oil as you'd expect in an engine bay, but if they get a lot of oil from a leak, then over time they'll go like that one did.
    In this case, I'd hazard a guess that it was from the rocker/valve cover gasket. Looks like there was a fair amount of oil down there.

    • @briansmobile1

However I can't bust the crankshaft bolt. I try an air impact wrench with about 500 Nm and I even broke an extension of a breaker bar. Hey man I can ask you something. I have a Golf 5 tdi 1.9 year 2004. I have been with many fitters and nobody can help me. But look i have replaced the radiator that cooler pipe and thermostat and temprature sensor has also been replaced. I think it is the intercooler and the air conditioning I think, because I have to replace those 2. Because that air conditioning needs to be refilled. And I have this car for 5 years in my possession. He drives really well in the beginning. I could easily drive 180 without any loss of coolant. And still if I drive above 100km then that temperature sensor now goes a little slower to that red part.goes all the way to that red side. Is really tired of this. almost everything has been replaced. And that inside is also checked. And it is still good of those 4 things I forgot the name. Can you look for me, but I really want to visit you lol. But I need to see how I am going to do that. lol Then I give you what you want. Then at least I know someone who does it, who can simply be trusted. Because when I'm at the mechanic, I have to leave my car behind. yeah right not with me boy.. Let me now in a messege oké ill check it later one.Wish_015

      I have a few videos on that process. Unfortunately they are all pretty old and from an era when RUclips was a labor of love for fun, so quality is poor, but the information is good. Here you go!
      AC Dye→ ruclips.net/video/I9wj1_CDlE0/видео.html
      Cheap and effective UV light → ruclips.net/video/izbKZdsvpUE/видео.html

    Would of been easier if you just take the intake hose off is not good to bend.

    Those Cosco led lights are the bomb.Did both the dog grooming shop and my wood working shop with them.Much better light than the fluorescent. Here they go for 29.99.Be interesting to know how many of the Bmob know what a spotted owl is.Here in Washington the feds are actually wanting to shoot the barred owl....www.wfpa.org/news-and-resources/blog/effort-to-kill-barred-owls-gets-into-full-swing-in-the-west/...to save the spotted owl.

      Wow! Thanks internet censorship. I can't read the owl article because it's forbidden in my area. If people are too stupid to react properly to truth, keeping them in ignorance through censorship isn't doing them any favors of intellect. However if censorship is being used to hide corruption, it will likely show a spotlight on it using curiosity as it's vehicle.

      The judge initially decides to let him off, though the seagull may become endangered, due to the man saying it was he or the seagull.
      He then went on to say the meat tasted like two other endangered birds.
