I adore the basslines in these areas. ESPECIALLY the delay effect on the bass at the end of the loop. So good. That's why remake largely just remasters the music of this game: it's FLAWLESS already!!

They composers perfectly captured that laid back but also ominous feeling of the area. Like, yeah, it‘s a giant market area but also really shady around every corner
this song gives off the vibes of a downtown city in your area but without all the fun or going there for the sole purpose of meeting your friends. it gives off the vibes of walking through the downtown city by yourself just to pick up some food from a restaurant. as you walk around and observe the atmosphere you notice police talking to homeless people who either threw their whole life away or have simply lost everything. the police however confront said homeless people for the sole purpose of telling them they cant sleep here or some other law. you notice people just like you who aren't out with friends and are just out in downtown to walk around. i have never played through final fantasy so i would not know what the context of this song is but i just imagine some sort of lifeless town full of very sketchy people. to me that is the beauty of this track.
You're not far off, Wall Market has some very shady businesses, a motel, a gym full of cross-dressers, and a brothel. And instead of police hassling homeless people, the place is run by a fat degenerate who's the local crime boss. Everything in Sector 7 is run down, hopeless, corrupt, and every-man-for-himself, where you can't even see the sky because of the upper levels blocking the sun and pollution is "not my problem". And literally everyone packs a machine gun, grenades, etc. because crime and monsters are a serious issue that the Shinra cops/soldiers barely bother to deal with.

I couldn't play the Remake because they changed Wall Market so much, they didn't just update Wall Market they completely destroyed it and tried to turn it into the Gold Saucer. Wall Market and this song are some of my strongest memories from the original, after seeing what they turned it into I know I would have been deeply disappointed if I played Remake.

The 1997 Wall Market was more Bazaar-slum like, it was really cramped. The 2020 Wall Market was way more Las Vegas-Festive, bright colors, many roads and alleys leading to new discoveries. They are both Wall Market, but still they are not the same. Each song compliments the Wall Market of their own game. Yet both are excellent landmarks in the Final Fantasy VII experience.

In the remake I had to turn the music setting all the way down and play this on my phone as I walked around Wall Market. Not sure what they were thinking getting rid of this track for whatever you call the new track they have that sounds more like it belongs in Mario Kart.
They didn't get rid of it. Its now the collapsed expressway music and it even got a second version as a battle theme. Don't know what you're complaining about. I do think that the new wall market music fits just fine for that casino/nightlife vibe. I agree with the decision to change it since its still in the game on your way to wall market.

This theme fits the original and the new jazzy theme fits the new one. Also they didn’t get rid of the old theme, they played it in one cutscene when you first encounter beck and his crew and there’s a remix of it after you battle beck and his crew until you reach evergreen park.

Man I should have known not to read the comments on an old vg st that had a remake. It just annoys me more than anything. Why can't we just enjoy both? I think the Wall Market st in the Remake was quite spectacular and lived up to the rampant, chaotic energy that surged throughout the Entertainment District with Don Corneo's influence looming in the shadows. Yet, I still love this one, as well. It definitely does capture a much more openly seedy vibe. I feel as if I cannot directly compare the two because they're both going for entirely different concepts due to the way the environments and the games both turned out. They're still both Wall Market, but different conceptualizations of the same place. This theme is a dirty back alley that no one has any business going in. The Remake theme is the Vegas of the Slums. I can buy into slumdwellers going to the Remake's Wall Market to blow off some steam or have some fun. This one? With the atmosphere, I'm having trouble understanding why everyone doesn't clear out immediately for fear of a rib in the knives. Both different takes which have their own pros and cons. And then there are people who say things like they shouldn't have remade the song in the first place, and with an attitude like that, it makes me question if they even know what goes into remaking a game, especially one of this scale. If you're going to go as far to suggest you simply take the old soundtracks and plop them into the new product, I have no clue what to tell you except to stop playing the Remake and go back to your PS1. That's not how any of this works. You are entitled to your opinion that one thing is better than another. I definitely have major complaints with the Remake as someone who was invited to Final Fantasy as a whole from FF7R. But I think this dismissal or outright rejection of the Remake's parts in this way is frankly insulting not to just to the developers, but to yourselves for not allowing this rebirth of old storytelling to grow and evolve.
Man, the original FF7 (I've never played the remake) has such a great soundtrack, especially considering the limited technology back then. Just goes to show that a lot of today's big-budget games can't buy good taste.
Limited technology? Maybe that applies for FF1-6, but the PS1 allowed studio recorded music since it used CDs unlike previous consoles, which compressed the music into bits on cartridges. So the music of FF7 even on PS1 is stuff they played in the studio recorded straight onto a CD, much like a music album would've done it.

Yet, I still love this one, as well. It definitely does capture a much more openly seedy vibe.
I feel as if I cannot directly compare the two because they're both going for entirely different concepts due to the way the environments and the games both turned out. They're still both Wall Market, but different conceptualizations of the same place. This theme is a dirty back alley that no one has any business going in. The Remake theme is the Vegas of the Slums. I can buy into slumdwellers going to the Remake's Wall Market to blow off some steam or have some fun. This one? With the atmosphere, I'm having trouble understanding why everyone doesn't clear out immediately for fear of a rib in the knives. Both different takes which have their own pros and cons.
And then there are people who say things like they shouldn't have remade the song in the first place, and with an attitude like that, it makes me question if they even know what goes into remaking a game, especially one of this scale. If you're going to go as far to suggest you simply take the old soundtracks and plop them into the new product, I have no clue what to tell you except to stop playing the Remake and go back to your PS1. That's not how any of this works.
You are entitled to your opinion that one thing is better than another. I definitely have major complaints with the Remake as someone who was invited to Final Fantasy as a whole from FF7R. But I think this dismissal or outright rejection of the Remake's parts in this way is frankly insulting not to just to the developers, but to yourselves for not allowing this rebirth of old storytelling to grow and evolve.

Yes. I've recently beat the game for the first time and it was Zack and not Cloud who was with Sephiroth.
Man, the original FF7 (I've never played the remake) has such a great soundtrack, especially considering the limited technology back then. Just goes to show that a lot of today's big-budget games can't buy good taste.
Limited technology? Maybe that applies for FF1-6, but the PS1 allowed studio recorded music since it used CDs unlike previous consoles, which compressed the music into bits on cartridges. So the music of FF7 even on PS1 is stuff they played in the studio recorded straight onto a CD, much like a music album would've done it.
