Some additional notes that wouldn’t fit into the description for anyone who's watching this a few days after I posted it:
    · I’ve completed each of my levels several times; I selected what I consider my most exciting playthroughs of “StairWAVE to Aaron” and “GateWAVE to Aaron” for this video rather than what I consider my best. I chose them because I was teetering on the knife-edge of death for a significant proportion of each playthrough; I felt that demonstrating how players can stave off death by playing well under pressure would be more interesting than a playthrough in which I made no significant mistakes. (The completion of “GateWAVE” in this video was in fact my first successful one.)
    · All my videos except “GateWAVE” are from the same day because I also wanted to demonstrate that I could complete them within a relatively short time in relatively few attempts. (I successfully completed “GateWAVE” as well, but as stated, I had a reason for using my first film of that level.) I didn’t count, but I don’t think any of these levels took me more than about five attempts.
    · I wanted this video to contain one composition from each of _hellpak_ vol. 2’s composers, and I also wanted each to line up relatively closely with the films of each level, which substantially restricted the pieces that were available to select; I chose the first three because they were of suitable mood and length; then future_you5 selected “Black Wallpaper” from Cory. Since “Nocturnal Sights of the Forbidden Crystal Rooms” is _hellpak_ vol. 2’s theme, it closes out the video.
    · We don’t yet know how many levels _hellpak_ vol. 2 will contain; it may contain as many as 50, although several submissions are still more ideas of levels than they are actual levels.
    · Similarly, we don’t how know much music the soundtrack will contain; it will likely be around two and a half hours, not to exceed two hours and forty minutes unless we end up having enough levels to justify a three-CD soundtrack. More than seven hours of music have been submitted; what doesn’t make it onto the official soundtrack (and isn’t used for other projects) may ultimately be made into a bonus soundtrack.
    · I’m getting over a nasty cold (thankfully, not covid), which has delayed the releases of both _Tempus Irae Redux_ and the next preview of _Eternal._ The latter may be out as soon as this weekend or early next week; I need to finish mastering one track and replay it to make sure no major bugs slipped through the cracks. _Tempus Irae Redux_ will likely follow within one to three weeks.

I'm very happy to see some hellpak vol. 2 content so early! What a great surprise! Thank you for also making the music available as well; lots of great stuff and goodies to get into. Looking forward to Tempus Irae Redux soon as well as more future uploads. Love to see it!

Good God this one looks fun! I can't even imagine making a level like this with forge, it would simply say "no, not today. Tomorrow doesn't look good either..."

thanks! and yes, several of these levels outright exceed vanilla limits in at least one capacity - i believe they’d all exceed the limits on draw distance and/or transparent sides (i’m only about 70% sure for “Chime Target”), and the first two also exceed its polygon count limits by around 420 polygons. plus, all of them except “Gateway to Aaron” incorporate scripting features we couldn’t even have dreamt of in 1997, which to be honest might’ve been the most fun part of developing these. being able to incorporate gameplay elements like “killing enemies restores a bit of your health” opens up entirely new potential ways to balance the game, and i think that’s cool.

@@MarathonVidmaster I'd be so lost trying to learn the new ways of map making.. but you could have enemies die with a negative damage only applicable to players for some kind of health restore in the old days. I used to make a marathon infinity physics file that gave the SMG a second trigger that shoots negative damage explosions, wasn't always useful but infinity was merged with m2 durandal physics so it would load the infinity only data from the custom physics file. Ahhh those days were so fun..

Funny you should mention “the new ways of mapmaking”. aaronfreed.github.io/mapmaking.html should help catch you up to some extent. I’ve barely gone into Lua scripting yet, nor have I written a complete guide to MML, but it should provide a solid starting point.
