Although the general understanding the 2.5 was a ‘better car’ do you think that this, with what the owner believes to have only come in 500 units, is the one to buy? Is it a future classic? Or are they just going to die off into the sunset 😂
they have a number on the slam pannel 26001 -26501 👍🏻👍🏻
there is also quite a big following for these mate , deffo going up in value
There nice, and definitely going to be increasing in value soon, although the st200 is a better future classic to get, or if you want silly rare(believe there's less then a handful left) the st3000!..
It's just the silly ved bracket that kills cars like this. 👍🏻
Mate you wanna check out the Daddy of all Vectra B’s the Uber Rare ST200 and yes Vauxhall beat ford to the name!! And there was only 38 made 2.5 V6, close ratio gearbox, quaife lsd, Koni suspension, AP 4 pots, and super sexy Speedline Mistrals.

These were delivered by the Vauxhall factory to Motorsports Developments (MSD) for final preparation. MSD were a race prep company who were also building/preparing the factory BTCC Vauxhalls at the time. (You can see the MSD logo on the cam cover inthe video). MSD fitted hotter cams, special alloys (not the ones on this car), bigger brakes, lower suspension, remapped ECU and the Irmscher backbox.
MSD were also doing a similar thing for Hyundai at the time. They took Hyundai Coupe 2.0 SE and converted 1500 of them to F2 Evolution spec. (Cams, backbox, spoilers, interior trim etc). MSD were also preparing the works Hyundai Coupes in the FIA "F2" category in the WRC.
MSD had the Vectra GSI's at one side of their factory, and the Hyundai Coupe F2 Evos at the other. Good business for MSD at the time, though they later went bust.
Both of the above models are future classics, already both very rare.
It wasn’t an Irmscher back box it was a magnex .
Other RUclipsrs focusing on RS6s, M5s etc - that's great and all, but the rare obscure stuff is the real treat.
I honestly couldnt be less interested in cars like that. Yes they climb the speedo quick but they are so boring.
@@cc2162 Exactly the same I feel, older cars had much more character
Very very good point
My dad used to have a 2.5 when i was a kid, that relly got me into vauxhalls and modern classics in general. Great car!!
@Lloyde Turner ye, my dad now has a Vectra VXR. Very solid engines and the gearbox is strong
Yep. Great engine. Very notchy and precise gearbox also. But doesnt like quickshifts.
I also own a 2.6 Gsi saloon and can confirm there was only 500 2.6's made
Had many other vectra gsi's over the years.
Great video too, about time they got some recognition, unappreciated motors
Never know there was just 500 2.6 made. I’ve got 1 picked it up the over month goes good with my estate as well lol
That might of been the msd version, not the standard 2.6…
I meant there was only 500 2.6 gsi's made
What do you think of the 3.2v6 Vectra? Any good
@@pictlandpickers1171 Yes, very good car
O to 60 in 7.6. 200 bhp if i’m not mistaken. Good cars. Lovely seats. Lovely noise.Mine was pretty thirsty.
thats the 2.5 the 2.6s are only 170bhp
179 bhp from the omega.
The 2.5 had 193 bhp.
@@tomforrest7814 No the 2.6 was 'only' 178bhp with a bucket load of torque.
Jeez... The perspectives here 😳🙄
That was the 2.5, and 193 bhp.
About 7 years ago, me and my best friend was on holiday with my mum and her best friend. She bumped into a old school friend who we went out to dinner with the next day. It was about 11pm, and he needed something from Tesco which was about 11 miles away. We got in this Vectra, no idea what it was, and it was rapid, it was my earliest memory of someone driving crazy. And it turns out it was one of these 1/500 V6 Vectra GSI’s, it also had blue light up dial
Love the video, that V6 sounded gorgeous...a vectra I'd actually admire!!
Used too own a 2.6 gsi about 12yr ago...02 plate in pertrol blue....great car
I have vectra b from 1998. 1.8 16v . God this cars are sooo good. Simple. Pretty. Handfull if you need . It is just a cool car. I love it.
I had the super touring version can’t remember which number it was but I loved that car!!!
had 2 sri 2.5v6 and a 2.6 sri over the years
sound wicked with a cone filter
I had 3 v6 2.5 vectra and my brother had a 2.5 gsi....
One 2.5 estate. One ex police v6 but engine blew at 170k miles, rolling road the rev limit was found to be at 6700rpm and had a smoother torque band than other v6's on the day....replaced it with a 2.5 auto sri. Ex met police....fastest out of the lot and returned over 40 mpg on a long run at sensible speeds. Down to 8mpg if you wasnt being so sensible....
Both the ex police cars were far faster than my brothers gsi....which was put on a rolling road and running at standard power
We're the ex cop cars after being chipped or something do you know??
looks really good - proper old school touring car style. Always loved them - bog standard vectras got slated but thats because they were so dull. My dad had an Omega 3.0 V6 and the noise it made was gorgeous and it was such a lovely car. We used to go on holiday to france in it. Big respect to vaxhaul for making this car.
My old mans got one of these tucked away in the garage, he’s not started it in about 5 years😂
Please save it 🙏
@@mishalchotai4721 it’s not going anywhere!
Completely original 60k miles👌🏼
Does he still have it?
@@samsoncalin1787 yes mate he does.
He hasn't just sold it has he haha cos I just bought 1 thats been tucked away for 5yrs
Lovely car also a big fan of the cavaliers
One of my work mates had the Cavalier Turbo and back in the late 90's and spent a fortune on having the engine modded. Absolutely beautiful car! I started off with a K registered 8-valve 2.0iGLS, then the 16v 2.0i and then a 2.5 SRI and then two GSi's - first one was a 2.5V6 on a T plate and then the 2.6 GSi that I have had from demonstrator and still goes well. My last Vauxhall was a Vectra VXR on an 06 plate and that was a money-pit which I ended up scrapping about 5 years ago because I got sick of constantly ploughing money into it because it was basically crap and went over to driving BMW's.
A friend of mine had a GSI with extra irmscher bits in the early 2000’s. I remember it was plenty quick. Sounded great.
My dad bought one new in 96, be it the 2.5 SRI in the lovely titanium colour. Great car, it took us to Paris a few times and Germany. He eventually part exchanged it with a Honda Accord, but I will never forget the sound from that V6. I have an Astra VXR at the moment, but do find myself looking for an old V6 Vectra as a project.
Definitely a future modern classic, once people my age get a bit older into our 30’s and 40’s we’ll be pining for these like older men in there 40’s would for the old cavalier SRI’s and Astra GTE’s... love an old vauxhall like a wee nova would do me nicely😎
I’ve got a 2000 ph2 2.5 GSi saloon, which I’m looking to recommission soon. Been off the road for about 3 years now and I miss the V6 growl! One of the best sounding sixes ever imo!
its a good vectra i had a 2.6 sri in persia red it red lined at 6800rpm i still miss that car strong torque and smooth power delivery all the way i brought the car with 215 40 17s performance was addictive.these cars have cult and classic status how often do you see one.
The best thing about the GSI was the alloy wheels, he took them off and now it looks like a standard Vectra with chavy wheels
How are Vectra C VXR wheels Chavy?
V6 4motion golf is way faster
@@bunter6 they look good on the newer one but wrong on that one. The old gsi alloys are gorgeous
@@hamzahhussain9636 same top speed, 0-60 is slightly slower by ½ second, the Vectra is lighter but also the engine is 300cc smaller, so add another 300cc to the Vectra or around 30hp ratio and the Vectra is probably as quick 0-60 but faster top end. So very even but the 4 motion is not way faster. Only slightly and probably lose out on a track die to the 4 motion being very soft and sponge like, Vectra was set up harder from factory.
@@hamzahhussain9636 golfs are boring
We had a Vectra B V6 SRI and it was pretty quick - when the EML wasn't on. Which was never.
Jamie now get the omega 2.5v6 or 3.0 v6 to compare
I miss my old 2.5 gsi... I have a vectra vxr now and yes it is way quicker but the old 2.5 v6 with no turbo used to sound great and I managed 150 out of it haha !!!!
Vxr does 161…👍
Yes mate. Got a soft spot for these. Funnily enough an estate one was posted on a group I'm a member of and I was discussing it with the owner. Very under rated car. I couldnt believe they hadn't already gone through the roof in price. Really quite affordable right now and I do reckon they'll appreciate in a few years
A guy by me has a purple one and has had it since new he absolutely loves it and it's mint. Did actually like the look of these even though Clarkson hated them.
Clarkson was a shithead that way. Don't know what was wrong with him. It was a really beautiful car, and with the additional facelifts and the Lotus tuning - come on! It was a really gorgeous and beautiful driver's car!!
We don’t do reviews on this channel anymore. Proceeds to do a review.
And a damn good thing it was too!
My mate had one of these, his gf was driving it around the caravan site we were staying in one summer, then I gad a go and I wasn't happy with the speed bumps around the site so I kind of stole it and took it out on the main road and god it was fun. When I took it back my mate just said "was that my car I could hear getting sent on" all I could do was laugh.
I've got a old ph1 gsi estate and I'm going to be restoring it soon. I've already re built the engine but I did that before I started making videos. I really like it and it's fun to drive 👍
I had two of these in my time one of which was the rare i500 , excellent motorway cruisers , got me through France very quickly in time to catch a ferry and lovely sounding v6
Stepdad has one T plate had it since 2001 still drives it to this day and in mint condition
Wow fantastic!! ❤️❤️
Just got to say the best intro to any car youtuber 👌. Also very jealous of your old school car collection 😍
Nice cars had a 1.8ls vectra b years ago. a Supertouring is a proper unicorn in the vectra b shape
Excellent family cars. And the 2.6 was the rarest one. And the desirable one to get your hands on. Definitely a future classic
I had a black 2.5 GSi saloon as a company car - half the team I worked in had one. Great cars - one of the first mainstream cars to come with 17" wheels from a dealer. Very fast for the time, but oh my lord was it a nightmare for reliability, not helped by the terrible service at dealers. I put 100k miles on mine in 3 years, took it to an indicated 150mph on derestricted roads in Germany and went through many, many clutches and a gearbox in the first year. They came with super sticky Yokohama tyres from new, which lasted a good 10k miles if driving enthusiastically. It was kept on the road for another 10 years based on the MOT checker after I gave the car back.
Never thought I would watch a vectra review in 2020
Awesome vid, good banter about cars and a nice drive, what more do you want? :) Nice! I remember seeing one of these back in the day and always loved how they looked. Rare like you say, sounds nice :)
HAD A SRI 2.5 V6 GREAT CAR TO NICE ONE FYD
I also had one Loved it
I have a 2.5 model max powered love the thing drivers really well more of a tourer in my opinion these have always suffered from under steer nice example u had the privilege to drive 👍
Love the vectra gsi, what a motor
Good memories for these I had a late 2001 gsi great car lots torque and great engine only thing yes head lights was bad. Been looking for another but rare as hens teeth now find a good one
Love vectras and the v6 sound think you need one on the channel 😉
I have the 2.8 turbo v6 signum bud. Was looking at the vectra vxr but theyre are asbo asf and common in comparison to the signum.
Great car,had the pleasure of riding in one of my mates black one around 8 years ago😀😀😀😀.Great vid jamie
Yes lad 😎
Vectra with Irmscher touch, can't go wrong with that! I really love that car, for that age I really love the shape of it, love the sound of that V6. It's underrated by my opinion, it really can be fun car to drive.
In Croatia there are few 2.5 Vectras but not sure about 2.6, they are really rare here
I own 2 gsi 2.6’s, i have a 2.5 gsi and a 2.5 super touring
Will defo be a classic in years to come I had the 2.5 v6 gsi absolutely loved it
I had one with the 3.0 throttle body and cams it was a machine and they handle really well so tight best vectra build the vectra b
I get budget Lotus Carlton vibes from this car
It's because it's the same engine as the lotus carlton just updated version of it
@@willbassett2917 are you sure about that lol
If only it was as fast as one lol
Nothimg about this engine is the same as a lotusc carlton lol. Carlton is a straight 6. Engine shares the same block as a carlton gsi the vectras are v6 and fwd
will bassett 😂😂😂 updated by making it 1L smaller ?
Lovely looking car.
Defo a modern classic
Any car that was in the super touring era of btcc is cool
Remember seeing a green one of these in the showroom when they were new, very nice
in terms of torque, its limitation is the F23 gearbox, rated to safely take 230Nm torque. Any more reduces its serviceable life, so you will notice it will be restricted to that level and will have a very linear torque delivery as a result.
I had the 2.5 V6 SRI for 14 years, I loved that car, changed it for a more up to date 2L turbo diesel Insignia, which is not as good imo, I really wanted a GSi but car tax went stupid £500+ a year
Nice rear car I use to have the 2.5 v6 Gsi love the sound of the engine..too many break them same as other sport cars back from early 2000 etc
Very Nice and Very Rare so yes it's a Modern Future Classic but an St200 Is the Ultimate Vectra Classic
I had one of these years ago, same colour as that " moonland " was a lovely car ,but far too thirsty & juicy for me to run on a daily basis, I believe it's still out there somewhere, will probably be a classic soon now that it's 20 years old
my dad had a brand new one back in 2000, was a 2.5 gsi. I then had one myself when I got to 19, im now 33 lol. I had it for 6 years! I had the 5th last 2.5 made. I loved the car, yes it wasn't the fastest thing in the world. But it was great going to Cruises (ha remember them) and being the ONLY one there. the 2.5 were around 192hp from factory and the 2.6 were 168hp. The change was EU emissions I believe. Mine had exhaust, CAI, 3.8 bar fuel pressure regulator to try and get rid of the massive flat spot in the mid rev range. They came out of the factory and were sent to MSD to have the Irmscher kit, recaros and the cams changed (in the 2.5) to increase the power. miss that car
179 bhp from the omega.
I had an ex police cavalier v6 2.5. it was quite quick but i hated the gearing and was not a big fan of the v6 though they do sound nice it was reliable but felt heavy superb grip .This vectra looks nice though sounds superb ,cav would do 70 in second 90 in third would pull strong at from 80 into 3 figures .
yes mad gearing if i can recall nearly 110mph in third in the vectra
The cavalier was faster cos it was lighter. 7.3 seconds to 60 if my memory serves me right. And very rare the casaro.
I’ve got 3 of those great car defo a lowkey classic
The body kit/ seats are standard fit on the gsi and not optional extras. The exhaust is magnex backbox and came standard on all gsi models. The sri had the irmerscher back box which was more square looking in its design.
I had the 2.5 gsi and was always disappointed with it. The car looked the part but didnt have enough ooomph to match the looks.
The vectra vxr was a far far better car.
Always loved the Vectra B .. My friend had the MSD , but i only got a poo brown diesel 😆...still did me proud though ..
Love a bloody vectra
I had one many years ago but it was the 2.5. Really liked it, terrible on fuel though. I used to tow a corsa with it to the drag strip 😱
The 2.5 GSis were quicker and more powerful near 200bhp and the recaros came standard on all GSI's
Thought I was the boy when my dad picked me up in his 2.5 gsi 💪💪
I had the Vectra B CDX V6 back in the day - loved it but thirsty!
That was a BEAUTIFUL car too.
It was actually one of those, in a black hatchback, which made me get my own black V6 SRi hatch.
Gorgeous gorgeous car 😍💗
Loved mine now got a vectra vxr
All Vectra GSi's came with the full irmscher bodykit as shown in this video.
The earlier ones all had the rear skirt but the later models didnt
I used to love this cars! I had 5 Vectra B in total about 10 years ago. I got my first one when I was 18 years old 2.0l SRI saloon and spent about £10k over the years to get it to look the way I wanted it and it was a very well known car in the Vauxhall community. Insurance was £2500 a year as a second driver 🤦♂️. I was one of the first ones to put snowflake alloys on a Vectra B. I remember paying £1k for second hand wheels and over £600 for Pirelli tyres 215/35/19. You could get another vectra for that much money back then 😄.
I used to go to pvs with it and other car meets. I had a few sri 2.2 and a couple of GSI's, a red prefacelift hatchback which I also put snowflake 19s and a Persia red saloon, facelift model. Very rare colour. I still look from time to time if I'd come across a low mileage one as I would buy it and store it. Like you say, it's not a car that many people look for or know much about it nowadays. It's not a fast car but I guess i still live then as it was my first car. I think it will become a future classic. I would love to get a white ST200 but I haven't seen one for sale for a very long time.
If anyone with an ST200 reads this message and would like to sell the car please do let me know.
There are 2 bad quality videos on RUclips that were recorded long time ago if anyone would like to see them and probably recognise the cars if you were into Vauxhall's 10 years ago, just search for Saimirs vectra
Great little Vid . Perfect content .
It's 3:58 in the morning. I've just woken up again after dreaming about my Vectra 2002 2.6 V6 SRi which I tragically had to let go after only 2 years of ownership and another 2 years parked up at the side if the house. This was due to financial problems resulting from the economic crash of 2008. I had bought it with only 36,000 miles on it at only 4 years old from a guy in Bermingham, and brought it back to Ireland. It was the first and only one of its kind here and was in mint mint condition. It was like purchasing a brand new car. The motor tax in Ireland was horrendous though at €1,100, which would have been fine if the economy had kept up, but it didn't.
She was a black, hatchback, and in its stock state, a sweeter looking car you could not find. It pulled like fck, all that torque, and the creamy V6 purr...whooh....still gets me inside. Wonderful hearing it now again with your featured car, thank you.
I adored the swooping fine lines, the modest, but muscular stance, the relative refinement of the car which was just enough, whilst still feeling 'raw' if you know what I mean. It was the era just before cars became silly with tech - all tech - both driver aids, and electronic conveniences, so with traction control, abs, central locking, power steering and light-ish clutch, it had - enough, and not any more. It still meant the man was driving the damn car, and not the technology.
I purposely chose the SRi of that era over the GSi, as it had the exact same engine and level of tuning an suspension, brakes etc as the GSi, but it had, imo, a far nicer classic black leather steering wheel, and far nicer alloys (5 spoke / twin bladed). They were 'only' 16" but still a nice size. They looked so right and sexy on the car, esp against the black. It still also had the same Lotus tuned suspension etc as the GSi, so, I think, it really was overall just a prettier GSi. I was just about to buy a front splitter from the '96-'99 Vectra B GSi made by a crowd in Yorkshire. This to me, again suited the grilled design of the SRi's twin bladed 5 spokes, and was a little more subtle than the '01/'02 splitter, but oh, so very tasteful.
I was also going to get a Jetex straight through, and a chip and induction upgrade from Regal. It would have been really, really sweet, and again imo, just right at the perfect level of upgrades and tuning without going OTT like some fellas do: but it was not to be. It turned heads everywhere and even young hot hatch petrol heads saluted her. The sight of it, even in its factory face-lifting still made me swoon and after parking her somewhere, would make me want to CONSTANTLY look back at her as I walked away! N.B.: you need be able to WANT to look back at your car (or woman) like this, or you are just not into her enough.
Still heartbroken missing her. What a beautiful steed. She was my Black Beauty 😍 😢
oh wow
Are your going to waste everybody’s time with any other lame irrelevant stories?? 😳
Loved the all white touring ones, pretty chavvy back in their day but let's face it we all love that era now! Great car, Also love the wing mirrors 😂 Not sure if they'll go up, pretty low performance and most of them are rotten now 😭
Absolute awesome video love the vec gsi 😜
My daily driverfor the last 7-8years is a 96 vectra b 2.5v6 cdx, decat downpipes, g cams on the intake side and aftermerket airfilter. It has been a problemfree car, it performs good for what it is, 343000km or aprox 215000miles on the odometer, engine and autobox has never been changed. It aint a fast sprinter from 0-100kmh, but from 80-90 to 120-130kmt its fast, got long legs and top out at aprox 235-240kmt on a good day at the speedometer. My 2001 mondeo 2.5v6 manual maby faster 0-100 time but cant hang on the vectra anywere else when it came to strightline performance or highway speed, mondeo got only 100k miles
My cousin had a vectra b 2.6 v6 Turing spec was white with the normal yellow accents but blow it up on way home one night and that started his 3.2 v6 omega swap lol. He got it all in and going and managed to get his mate to get a supercharger from the holdon vt was told its basically the aus version of the omega. But sold the lot when he got divorced. He spoke with a guy year or 2 ago to buy it back but it was set fire to not long after he sold it.
I need 1 in my life lol!!
Who doesn’t love a good review
I owned a SRI version of the vectra which had the same engine, I’m not sure if the engine had been put in or if they came with the same engine? Was a great car.
Same engine, from the omega. 179 bhp.
Still better looking than todays cars!
Love these! Shame there are hardly any clean examples or i would have one in a heartbeat 👌
Iv still got a 2.5 Gsi
I had a sri150 with the 2.2 and loved it when I was 18 would of loved the gsi but insurance was to steep.
Theres one for sale with 140k miles for 3.5k on autotrader. The alloys look crap tbf apart from that basically the same.
MATE YOU REALY NEED TAKE FOR A DRIVE AN ASTRA G GSI ! pls ask and find one
Good video content as always cheers Jamie
Used to have a 2.6 v6. Spent a lot of time in the garage...
Dont know why.... these old vauxhaull v6s run and run.
My dad bought a calibra v6 desitined for the scrapyard for 300 quid. Lasted him 6 years. Ended up with 280k on the clock.
Reliabilty and maintaining these is no more difficult than on a most basic crappy gutless 4 cylinder.
I brought a black 2002 2.6 gsi That also has a MSD number stamped in the slam panel for 900 pound a few months back 👌 I don’t think the man knew what he had 😂 and I daily mine too 💪
Never been a vauxhall fan, never been a vectra fan but WOW does that V6 sound good 😲
Mine opel omega has 2.5 v6 sounds heaven
The looks remind me of a Saab, looks very sleek
the 9-3 and 9-5 were based on the Vectra platform so yeah
@@dougsmith2320 Wow!! Did not know that!!
The Vectra's looks were absolutely gorgeous imo and Clarkson is a bigoted horse's arse
Lovely cars! My brother had one a few years back now. Make a great sound 👍
2.6 v6 gsi was 170bhp but the torque was more than the 2.5, thr 2.6 had three cats, 2 on both manifold and one underneath and also a fly by wire throttle system
Xenon headlights came standard on the 2.6 v6 and also design models and some Cdx
You're correct with the 500 made statement in the 2.6, 2.5 came in ph1s upto the first generation ph2 (2000 reg) that's when they swapped to the 2.6
The heated switches have been added as they didn't come with heated cloth recaros, people just put then switches in as they're blanked
Starting to get a rare car now and starting to shoot up in value
Fun fact also, all gsi's started life as an sri until they went to msd for the seats/interior, bumpers, suspension and wheels and few other bits and pieces
This is very nice car,and i500 best
Had the 1.6 vectra b could never get comfy in it lovely looking cars though
Seats were terrible in the base models gsi seats were comfy nice car to drive
Least most desirable of the GSI'S was the 2.6 it had less power than the 2.5 178bhp vs 192bhp in the 2.5 i had a 2.6 SRI which was an improvement on the 2.5 SRI 178 bhp vs 168 bhp . So it's a bit cheeky wearing the MSD badge on the engine as Motor Sport Development only tuned the 2.5 engine.
great looking car mate and vary rare
Theres one round near me. Sounds very tasty. Was behind me in traffic, i was in my signum 2.8 v6 turbo xD
Vectra's are nice. And virtually silent at 80 on a motorway. Just wish the 1 i had wasn't a 1.8
according to another comment there was even a 1.6 version, so at least you don't have that :P
Don’t look nice with them wheels there to big! And that front grill. Can’t beat the orignal look on them
Completely, completely, absolutely agree with you there! Those wheels are uggo!!
I have Speedline mistrels on mine the best in my opinion!… there’s allot of love for them on here I see
In love with it
