Battle Stage had the best implementation of 3D by actually making the races seem as realistic as possible. However the OG still has better directional impact and sexy 2D. It had the better (iconic) selection of Eurobeat too.
I like the OG because if you actually have watched the full season, it really feels like they just didn't have the budget for 3D reflections and complex effects, except for the last episode where they decided to run on reflections

Takumi when he was thinking about a strategy : *if I'm going to be racing while bringing itsuki home at the same time might as well put him in the back for extra grip instead of being a dead weight screaming all the time*

1998 Has some better camera angles that make it look more intense than the battle stage, like when the S14 is sliding to the outside, it doesn't look like they are gripping in 1998 compared to the battle stage.
Battle Stage looks better without a doubt. The scenes from the anime are way too inconsistent with some being drawn and others being CGI. The visuals also look way cleaner as well. The rain is much more visible in the 1998 version but it doesn't look right because it was simply drawn on, the rain droplets on the cars and the splashing of the water around the wheels look much nicer in the battle stage. The lighting, camera angles, world, and models also look much better overall in the battle stage. Overall I think the battle stage did a better job. I don't care about Night of Fire.
i remember watching first stage being weird out that there is no night on fire but its wast a problem , also i remember wondering why takumi put ( forgetable name ) , to people who dont know its becouse of weight distripusion
From just analyzing the First Stage I already have that nostalgic, vibe of cheap CGI and well-efforted attempt to make a good scene. It screams attempted effort.

Unpopular opinion: Because I watched Battle Stage around 100 times in my childhood, I personally prefer the Battle Stage beats over the OG.
