Funny how this song can trigger so many emotions. It's tied to so much in the show. Sadness, tension relief, victory, uncertainty, disbelief. Probably my favorite anime song ever.
I think it's because it was the ending to the killer first season and the song on which the show ended. It's still a great fucking song to a great fucking anime. I knew shit about cars but the explanations were just enough to make you understand without boring you, the action was amazing with CGI that still holds well today, and fuck, they made me care about illegal street racers.
The final scene of the anime should have been all the racers on their respective mountain pass summits staring off into the horizon where the audience gets to hear their thoughts (Nakazato on Myogi, Takehashi brothers on Akagi, ETC). The final racer would be Bunta with a sad expression on his face as he feels his connection with the 86 become broken for he realizes the time of the 86 has come to an end. The episode would end with him racing down Akina Mountain, this time him stating this run is going to be serious and that he couldn't have been more proud of his son. The final camera shot would travel through the engine of the car and leave through the exhaust followed by an anti lag turbo burst from his WRX. It's a testament to what cars are about. Cars replicate the feeling of love for those who appreciate them. You form a bond with one and when it's gone, you feel as if you lost a part of your purpose. You think you won't find the same thing again, but you eventually will. And the cycle starts all over again.
Final Stage. After everything. Years of watching Takumi improve, defeating the Red Suns, Night Kids, Emperor, and so many others. The AE86's engine has blown for the second time due to Takumi's determination to beat Shinji. The car we fell in love with in First Stage is history. This song plays as we find out where everyone goes. Keisuke goes professional. Mako does too. Ryosuke still shows up at some races. Takumi still delivers tofu. *_And I fucking cried when I saw the AE86 just sitting there_*
After Initial D and before MF Ghost, Takumi moved to Britain to participate in rally for Toyota, his third year, he won the championship, but in one of his crashes, he broke his leg (I believe) and retired from racing professionally, and in MF Ghost, Takumi mentors Kanata Katagiri

This song triggers such strong emotions. It's neither happy or sad or something else but at the same time it's all of them. *_gets flashbacks from the series_*
Don't know 90% of what they're saying in this song, but considering it was played at Initial D's end and represents (to me) the realization of a dream or achieving it, I catch the feels everytime I hear this song. The way Initial D romanticized street racing and perfecting your craft as a driver and the fact that I found and fell in love with 1AAe86 the same year I discovered Initial D, it holds quite a special place in my heart. Not ashamed of that in any way. I though Initial D ended with Fourth Stage, but once I got to see the conclusion (Fifth Stage) I felt torn between satisfied and left wanting more. It saddened me that it was actually over. It was about racing, passion, coming of age, pursuing your dream. Wow, I'm catching all kinds of feels.
Thank you, Initial D, for bringing me a great childhood and allowing me to step further into my passion for cars. A shame indeed that it all stopped. Great to see that the community is still going strong.
Coming here in 2023.. this song is older than me by some month but man i feel nostalgic about it. Initial D is my childhood, hearing this again after years makes me want to rewatch the serie again.. such a masterpiece
Uploaded 17 years ago. The release of "Cars" was exactly 2 weeks away, Michael Jackson was still alive for 3 more years, Fernando Alonso was going for his 2nd F1 world title, Lewis Hamilton was not in F1 yet, Max Verstappen was 9 years old. This is the best nostalgia song ever. Time flies, boys.
I always think that all the young men in the show, like Takumi, Keisuke, Ryosuke and so many others, are probably in Bunta's age by now. This song shares so many emotions with me, no only because it triggers so many memories about the show, but it also has a deeper meaning to me, which is the youth. One's youth is beautiful, and it's priceless. I always want my youth to be spent on my dream car, or racing, or at least something associated with cars, with speed, just like the individuals in the show. Now this has become my motivation of moving forward. Thank you, Initial D! Thank you, AE86!!
Damn this is great! When I saw final stage I was like *don't cry, no feels needed* as Takumi's car spun out and then he won. Kept my composure all the way until they decommissioned the AE86, then I fucking lost it and this song didn't help either when it kicked in. Initial D gets 5/5 stars from me all day man!
I love that this video was one of the ones that got me to even look into Initial D over ten years ago and its still here for me to remember the good times. thanks Reggie for the memories

This song is the first thing I think of when someone mentions Initial D. Not Takumi's Hachiroku, not the epic battles, but this. This song has stood the test of time many times over, and will always have a place in all of our hearts. It's a song that holds so much emotion. Hearing it at the end of final stage was the perfect way to send the series off for the final time. Hachiroku ni sankyu.
This song was uploaded in 2006 when I was 3 years old, it's been a long time and it's the same year Italy won the World Cup. But I watched this anime in 2010. I didn't seem to know it because I was too young, but when I watched it later as a teenager it was great.
I never liked anime, but I've always been obsessed with cars. Watching Initial D deepened my understanding of japanese cars and car culture, introduced me to touge and eurobeat, and now I understand why people like anime :)
Unfortunetly i did come very late to the party, i started watching initial d this year for the first time, and my gosh, i didnt regret it. I started watching it for the 2nd time about 2 weeks ago. It just makes me feel sad to be born in such age where there isnt anything unreliable ( uhh yeah ), like the trueno is old, but ffs i love it, and im sad that its being replaced with gt86 and its getting hard to find a stock ae86. Goddamnit Toyota why wont you continue with the production of the original 86!
Well actually the gt86 is a brilliant successor to the AE86 it's cheap (for a sports car) about $25k new and u can get one cheaper used. It handles brilliantly, has a huge community behind it, can be used as a daily since it has creature comforts, could be modded to all hell or built to however you like, and most importantly is fun to drive. It really channels the spirit of the original 86 and is worthy of having the 86 badging
