There's only three ways to get the disc from in your hand to flying through the air, PULLING, DRAGGING, AND LAGGING.
The further you move up the scale from pulling to lagging, the further you will be able to throw, the more effortless your distance will be, and the more fun you'll have when you get to head out to the course and demolish your friends 😈
If you want to have the tools to see WHERE YOU ARE ON THE SCALE from pulling to lagging, make sure you download the free guide linked below, so that you can find out where you are, and progress upwards.

You are quickly becoming my favorite go to channel for all my disc golf issues. Thank you for all the time you put into your videos.
This video is super helpful. I’ve discovered that I’m a dragged because I have been pulling the disc into the power pocket instead of letting it lag. I love how this video doesn’t just tell you what to to do, it teaches you how to coach yourself!
Thanks so much Caleb, teach a man to fish!!!
I'm a puller and I can say from my experience I do feel disconnected between my arm and my body when I'm throwing. That's the best way of explaining what I'm feeling, and it's good that your video confirms it for me. I'm trying to stop pulling but I've been unable to do that. I'll check out your guide and see what I can do. Thank you!
Thank you Ben, I’m really looking forward to the guide. It’s this exact topic that is slowly driving me insane. I appreciate the detail that you put into your videos .
Thanks so much Michael, I really hope it helps you out!
Well Ben, I for one am pulling for you. If I quit dragging my feet and spend more time practicing, maybe someday I can bring my form to the point where I am lagging behind you.
Sharing with all my pully draggy friends. We are all ultimate players with 20+ years of pulling practice!
As a former ultimate guy as well, I appreciate you sharing the love!!!
welcome back to my screen, always a great intro music and skills of spreading knowledge to the disc golf world!
hope to improve more and more everyday, wish the same to you!
Excellent video. This whole time I've been thinking "pulling the lawnmower" is good. Now in just one week, you and Robbie C have both mentioned it being bad. Look forward to reviewing your pdf.
Ben, great content, but the link to your guide is broken.
Awesome video Ben! Lot's of ideas hitting home and looking forward to checking out the guide, thanks for all your efforts to make us all better players!
Thanks so much Jeff for watching, I hope that you see huge improvements out there!!
Got me good on the lagging joke 😂
Hahahaha I was hoping it wouldn’t be too obvious, but I guess you’re pretty convincible 😉
Wow you’re exactly right, I exclusively pull and my max distance is 320’
I definitely have some stuff to work on. I typically throw around 300'-325'. 2 times I got one to 360' but I have no idea what I did to throw that far consistently lol. Great video!
THANK YOU! I have been going crazy trying to find this exact info. I can't get past 210 feet and......yup i have always thought you are supposed to pull while you are while rotating. Can't wait to start working on getting that lag.
It's such a natural thing that's hard to get away from, but I'm sure once you give it some work you'll see that number go way up! Thanks so much for watching!!!
Hope it helps. He’s increased my distance about 50 ft. That’s about 2 days worth of field work and troubleshooting
@@joshedmondson5134 50ft. in two days is 🤯🤯🤯. Shout out to the hard work!
@@BensBigDrive it’s the love of the game
Thank you so much for all your research, time, effort and the length of your descriptions. Someone get this man Nick Saban’s salary!!!
Thank you so much for your support on the channel!!! And I'd be cool with Mark Stoops' salary (Go cats 💙⚪)
@@BensBigDrive yessir! I’m always looking to improve my game. Little mistakes cause big waves. You’ve helped me smooth it out. My average round at my local course, which is just an average public Florida course, Has improved by as much as 4 strokes as long as I am applying what you’ve taught me and not missing any stupid gimme putts. You’re helping so many folks you’ll never even get to meet. But we’re all thankful and we will send subscribers and fans your way! Thanks again bro. Looking forward to the next video!
What happens to Ben’s Big Drive? Nothing new in a year. Hope you come back someday. This was a good one.
I am a 100% puller and am really looking forward to viewing the guide.
Awesome Dave, I hope it helps!
Hey man great meeting and playing with you yesterday! Been watching your videos and they are great breakdowns.
Brandon!! Thanks so much for letting me play with you all, I hope you finally throw one in sometime soon!
@@BensBigDrive bound to hit one of those putts eventually 😂😂
Congrats on being the first to get out such a concise, easy to follow guide! (FYI there is a typo/missing word in the very first section)
Let’s talk follow through. If I really loosen up my throwing arm I worry about hyperextending my shoulder and/or elbow in the follow through. Am I right to assume the best in the game let their throwing arm go loose only for the split second they need to? The timing is mind boggling. How do you think about your throwing arms looseness vs engagement during the throw? Thanks. Found your channel recently and it rocks!
Thank you so much for the feedback!! That's a great question, in a perfect throw, the throwing arm tension comes from timing and being in the right position instead of pulling, so keeping the arm "loose" is really just allowing it to become tense from the rotation of your body. Very complicated stuff, and I am not a doctor so this is not at all medical advice, do NOT do things you are uncomfortable with, but if done correctly this should be controlled enough to where this shouldn't be an issue. Also, your body is very good at not hurting itself, so it usually won't let itself make a destructive movement. But take it slow and feel comfortable before you try anything. Hope that helps!
Yay you’re back! Love your videos. Keep it up!
Thanks so much Eric, I really appreciate that!!!

Booooo the links don’t work anymore
I think it would be great to see overhead cams on pro players and Ben.
This might be one of the best videos I'd come across. And it makes perfectly sense, you must learn howto walk before you can sprint 100m like a bat out of hell.
Thanks so much for saying that!! And yes, instead of just seeing the finished product, hopefully people will understand it's a journey! Thanks for watching!
@@BensBigDrive And thanks for the guide! It is good but it is perhaps not that easy to be able to refer to my own form, a simple man as I am. Based on the guide, I think I'm a pull-dragger but not 100% sure. I think one of the main issues us noobs deal with, is that we have so many technical drawbacks, it is hard to know what to focus on fixing as a next step. Would you mind taking a look at a stand still throw of mine?
@@superblitz or should it be changed to lag is smooth and smooth is far?
Juicy😂 That content gave me goosebumps!😉
Hahaha anything for you Phil 😉
I couldn’t download it on all three platforms.
great video, always love when you release helpful content for us noodle arms!!!
Thanks Nathan, us noodle arms unite 👊
I find throwing a nova helps me determine if I am throwing correctly. I watch clips of Valerie Mandujano and then I throw into a net and watch it immediately. I make corrections before throwing again. I throw a nova with the goal of no wobble. I throw a nova while playing. If I pull the disc through, the nova will fly right wing down. I also do stand still drills before throwing. And for real fun, I practice stand still throws in virtual reality using my quest 2 and the app off the chains disc golf.
Throwing a nova helps so much. I had one that was beat in and there is no other disc on the market that flys like that. I had to quit throwing them because they were unreliable off the tee due to breaking where the plate meets the rim. A similar disc to the nova that is slept on and is great for form work is the Classic Grid Aviar. Very neutral flight and similar profile to the nova. I like warming up with 5 and trying to put them all in the same spot flat, hyzer, and anny.
Two of my novas have cracks there too! I bought from Valerie Mandujano the Nova that she threw at worlds. It has cracks. I don’t throw it anymore. I only use them for practice at this point, I wouldn’t use them in competition or even casual play. I would throw my envy instead. It is just a testament to Valerie’s incredible technique that she throws them so consistently and on angles. Yep, I am a fangirl.
Nice video. Thanks for the guide! And yes, I did think my internet was lagging.
Thanks for watching it, I hope you get a lot out of the guide!!! And gooood 😈
i’m in the pulling category but i can still throw consistent 400ft. Trying really hard to learn to throw without two hands.
I tried to time my plant foot with my release today and I felt more snap one time I lag to long. I max out at 400 ft. Also do I squeeze the disc hard as I can or hold it softly. Ima very accurate thrower
"I've never seen a puller throw more than 325 feet."
Oh, OK, BEN. I didn't realize we were doing personal attacks now.
HEY, YOU can get more distance and we'll do it TOGETHER :)
Yo Ben why is there no video of how to throw discs higher but nose down? Maybe you could a video of it? ;)
I tried this once, I am a puller for sure.....loose arm and x step and rotate....most painless throw I ever made....you do have to learn control/release sequence....it's a bit more precise....this was a good way to remind me to stop the pull...loosen the arm/body....focus on release....coil the whip....I will try again on this !! Thanks Ben..
Awesome B D, that is a great checklist to remind yourself of! Thanks so much for watching!
The website doesn't work where you explain Pulling, Dragging and Lagging. Any way to acces it? I'm a pulling guy 😂
you did get me dangit
But.. the arm want to round outwards automatically, so you would need to drag the arm into the powerpocket right? My problem right now is (i am a dragger btw) that even tho i do not reach behind my body, i still round.. i try to get the disc to the powerpocket, but every video shows the disc going away from me too early. My lower arm sort of rotates as my body rotates. How can we make that not happen?
👍great video
Link is not working anymore.
Ben where are you? I miss your videos!
Enter the “dragon“ category! I was SURE there was going to be a Bruce Lee gif pop up
That got me good
Link is broken :(
links do not work really need them
🔥
Damn man u got me 😭
😈😈😈
I need examples
So are you saying that we should not pull the disc at all, or do you have to still have some pull on the throw?
The body should pull the disc into the power pocket. I do stand still drills to feel the body pull the disc to my left pec. The rotation should continue and sling shot the disc from your left pec once you have rotated toward the target. I am not sure if at this point the arm muscle should actually be engaged to assist in ejection or not. I don’t think so. I think the arm acts more like a whip. Shoulder joint is the handle and the body is applying all the power. It is funny when someone makes fun of themselves by saying they have a noodle arm when a noddle arm is what you really want!
"Dragging" aka "Rounding" or "Hugging yourself", is too much "Lag".
What happens if I think I am both a lagger and a dragger?

Hey are you good yet
Too much lag has been Biomechanically proven as bad in disc golf.
