I can't badmouth Yngwie. He's cool enough to have allowed a buddy of mine come onto his tour bus after a show to give autographs. In the process, he asked Yngwie to call me on my cell phone and talk to me. Yngwie did! He was cool and funny, and downright funny. He may be cocky sometimes, but that's a pretty cool ass thing to do. He gets major props from me, especially as one of my guitar heroes of all time.
Yngwie is a legit straight up good guy. He was attacked relentlessly by music industry hitmen because record execs colluded in fear that Yngwie would kill record sales of all lesser guitarists and that included EVH and a slew of others.
@@johnp.johnson1541 Oh nonsense lol. Yngwie said heinous things about other bands and guitarists. I have the guitar magazines from the 80s to prove it. When you say bad stuff about other bands their management won't look kindly on it and book you opening slots for their acts.
Guthrie Govan about malmsteen:"when he stopped and played just one note, it sounded like a violin or an opera singer. Yngwie has an incomparable vibrato, which his detractors choose to ignore."

I think the mixed legato/alternate picked run after the blues lick in the solo sounds amazing...it has Paul Gilbert written all over it. It gives me chills every time...

One of my fav songs ever Paul Gilbert is so sick man he's one of the best guitar players I've ever heard they just don't make music like this anymore 80s hair bands forever!!!
+Jc333 for real man, what I loved most of Yngwie was his songwriting... of course he's a terrific guitarist, but those albums from the 80's have amazing songs. Take all the soloing and shredding and stuff away, and they're still really amazing songs.
Jc333 I went to one of his concerts a couple years ago and it was kind of a let down, cause it wasn't really song oriented but anyway, it was OK I think
I like how he adapted the solo for his own style. Malmsteen and Gilbert have completely different picking techniques. Malmsteen is a downward pick slanter and uses economy picking to switch strings at speed, Gilbert is a two way pick slanter and primarily uses alternate picking to cross strings at speed. They both have what works for them and for Gilbert to play a Malmsteen solo, he would need to rearrange the notes to suit his particular style and/or add in his own flavour and modify the solo to make things interesting - as he did here.
It does become more of a concern, but there are ways around it. Yngwie uses hammer-ons and pull-offs for switching after an odd number of notes. Breaks up the consistent attack a bit, which can be good or bad depending on the sound you want.
lol when someone watches cracking the code and thinks he knows everything about pick mechanics. if youd analyze pauls playing more you would have noticed that instead of pure alternate picking (which he can use but hasnt done so since the 90s cuz of tone reasons) he uses an extremely perfect and efficient way of combined legato and picking which makes him able to play pretty much any song. also he can use yngwies style as seen in paul song y.r.o (yngwie rip off)
Nick Salvatore that doesn't have anything to do with what I said. You are right but Paul stopped picking every note since the late 80s. He rarely uses 2 way pick slanting since he tends to do outside picking.
@@gigatesla Nailed it. Trilogy or example, both hammers and pick attack -fluid but tight. All this over-analysis maybe less relevant for adanced stylistic playing - that dfference is what sets them apart.
