Harry Potter CANON Events in the Hogwarts Legacy Timeline (Late 1800s)

- Hey everyone,
Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In this video, we’re going to be discussing the new Hogwarts Legacy game that was announced on the Playstation RUclips channel last week. Now, since the game has been announced many fans have been asking themselves: What’s it all about? Is it canon? Are we going to see the characters that we grew up watching? The trailer, which boasts an impressive 10 million views in its first week, reveals very little about the game, other than that we will be a student attending Hogwarts in the ‘late 1800s’.
Late 1800s is a pretty broad time frame, and this terminology would generally be used to describe the time period between 1870 and 1899, which leaves 29 years of events that could potentially coincide with the new game. In this video, I’m going to be exploring some of the events of the wizarding world during the 1870s, 1880s, and 1890s, and speculating on some of the events that we may see transpire, or hear about in the game.
Before we get started, let’s get one thing clear: Avalanche Software and Portkey Games, who are creating the game, have been very open about their dedication to keeping the game ‘authentic’ to the original franchise. What ‘authentic’ means, at least from my perspective, is that they’re going to preserve canon. Only time will be able to dictate whether they follow up with that statement or not, but I really hope they do.
Adrian Ropp, head of Story at Avalanche Software (who are bringing us the game alongside Portkey Games), had this to say:
“When the first book came out, I became an instant fan. This is a labor of love, and the real magic comes from the dedication and imagination of a team who wants nothing less than to make this an authentic and compelling Wizarding World game.”
This cements the fact that Portkey and Avalanche are taking their task very seriously- and will be attempting to approach the wizarding world from a NEW perspective while preserving the elements of the wizarding world that we’ve already been exposed to.
Without further ado, let’s get started and begin by taking a look at the events of the late 1800s- events that very well may coincide with the new game.

What are YOU hoping to see in Hogwarts Legacy? Did you know about all of these events from the 1800s?
Never did I come across these events, I really think this game is going to improve the wizarding knowledge of the 18ths. But I can tell that Harry Potter Theory knew about all these already! CAN'T WAIT!
I am really hoping to see a way to customise your character, be able to choose what house you want and a new and fresh game with a new story with new things to learn.

In 1883 the hoops that are now used in quidditch were implemented instead of baskets, I think this is one of the biggest hints as to when the game will take place as if there is quidditch in the game it will likely have the hoops

Erm I was looking through the comments and I saw that movie flame did something to you can I know what it is (also it is sick you are into Harry Potter most people either choose Star Wars or Harry Potter so yeah it’s amazing you like both)
Honestly, I am most excited to see (hopefully) Nicholas Flamel and maybe even getting to witness the Philosopher's Stone and its use. But young Dumbledore is also very exciting, seeing that power-obsessed side of him would be fascinating.

@@brianmurphy7599 Nicolas was 300 years old in the late 1800 and he met Dumbledore for the first time in 1890. I am hoping to see that happen and the way the philosopher stones and the elixir of life work (hopefully but not likely at this point I think).
@@TheSanarossOne bro is at least 500 years old by the late 1800s, Nicolas Flamel is a famous historical figure in the 13th century which is the same one we see in Harry Potter.

It would be interesting if you could periodically received a copy of the Daily Prophet (or similar) in the Post which had current news from the Wizarding World. Imagine reading about the Dumbledores welcoming a newborn son or articles on any of the other interesting events of the time. It would be as if you were living then.
That would actually really fit well with them wanting to make the world feel bigger then just Hogwarts and is also in line with how Harry, Ron and Hermione learned about a lot of stuff happening outside the school in the books
I think Dumbledore will either be a major character acting as a friend/rival to the player character or we will only see him in our final year which will be his first year. It feels to weird not to mention him at all and I don't think you could do anything other than that though I'm personally hoping its the later option just so we have room for some new characters.
It depends on when in the late 1800s this game's main plot takes place if it takes place earlier then 1892 we won't get to see him at all, for example if it's set in 1892 the CaC being a good friend or rival/bully to Albus could impact how he acts later on and in particular show us why he makes the decisions he does make later on his life. And I'm using the type of CaC I'm going with as an example which is someone who is a heroic wizard/witch who is a housemate of his in Gryffindor who happens to be Muggle-born basically I'm going to be all for the idea of the Muggle World, and the Wizarding World coming together but give the advice that it should happen slowly as it takes a long time for all the bad blood between the two worlds to disappear, and that trying to force the two worlds to come together while there's still bad blood will only lead to more less then desired disaster-fueled consequences for both Muggles, and Wizards/Witches. Basically my CaC will befriend Dumbledore and unknowingly set him down the path that leads to his friendship and eventual rivalry with Grindelwald.
I don t think we will see him.I think that they are trying to create something good without invloving any of the main story characters they want you to play the game because of the compeling story not cause you will be able to meet young Dumbledore either way I hope it s a good game can t wait for it

Yeah we need something removed from that because otherwise we either get serious limitations put on ourselves or we completely overshadow already established important characters.
I believe the game will be set at least after 1883 because that year quidditch goal post where changed from baskets to fixed sized hoops that we see in the HP timeline. Would be extremely odd for most people to see a different type of quidditch post so would make sense to me if the game is placed prior to that change.
In less it’s prior to that date but with modern hoops because they didn’t do the research

I like how he mentions the quidditch matches that may or may not have been interfered with by the goblin rebellion, but does mention the goblin rebellion.

If the book and quill is able to tell when a witch or wizard does it’s first magic, how come Arianna Dumbledore never got her acceptance letter from Hogwarts?
I’m the story of arianna Dumbledore she was a squib so she couldn’t produce any form of magic and her mother hid her in the basement chained up so no one would know that she existed and was a squib

I know this is gonna be our own story, and I’m massively behind that but I’m desperate too see some solid easter eggs and references!
Daily Prophets in the Great Hall would be an awesome way to do it in my opinion, as they were so well used in the movie for info dumps and transitions.
And outside of little easter eggs I want a huge party of the end of the story too have some kind of involvement with the Dumbledore vs Grindlewald fight! Would be the ultimate fan service

The 1880's was the decade where my grandparents were born and a time when much family history took place. It was a difficult time in United States history as we were getting over the tragic civil war. The US grappled with corruption and a fine President was assassinated.
The US South East never entirely recovered from the civil war. Seeds were sown for the hatred of black people.
So your grandparents would have attended Illvermorny at the same time as Albus Dumbledore attends Hogwarts

@@karlbergen6826 That would be awesome to have an Ilvermorny game. I see so many Americans associate with Hogwarts houses when Rowling has given us our own houses. It's understandable in the context of this game I'll definitely make a character in my Hogwarts house but it still feels slightly weird because I'm not a Brit.

I think the last Triwizard Tournament was in the 1700s, don't quote me on that however.

Maybe it takes place in 1982 and we are in the same year as Albus Dumbledore. In 1897 ist the 71st Potions Championship so maybe we can take part and see some students from Uagadou, Koldovstoretz and Mahoukotoro. And maybe the end of our story is in 1899 when Eloise Mintumble messed up with the Time turner and 5 people become unborn and one of them is our character

If i were to guess, I'd say we most likely will pick up around 1892-1897. Purely speculation, but it would be quite. Advantageous for avalanche games to bring in familiar characters such as the Dumbledores. Playing alongside him and making him a friend would be quite the experience and who knows you may be the very reason he aspires to become such a knowledgeable and powerful wizard

Ok, the idea of following the canon is awesomee and dumbledore possibly being there is also great, but i really wish this wont drive the story too much to the point where our decisions wont matter anymore! i would love if they mix a bit of canon but just the right amount, meaning the story will be completley new and free for us to shape and decide all the events

1890s is the game and Dumbledore is "apparently" not in it
so what we know for certain, if the game is based during or after 1892, they are asking for trouble because it would require them to present some form of a young Dumbledore, which is very risky.
Id guess the game will hit a 7 year gap between 1885 and 1892, perfectly timed for references to be made about the Dumbledore family, but NOT require him to be physically seen or be involved in any important events
I believe it would be cool to have a young Dumbledore as a student in our classroom.

i think it would be cool to play as dumbledore or maybe even change characters but mainly play as albus. we could learn new spells that made him what he was and actually see what he was capable of in canon as well

From what I know about the game and how I know game developers work. We will most likely start off before Albus first goes to Hogwarts but may eventually cross paths with him either way. Students typically go to Hogwarts for 7 years. According to what we know we get our acceptance letter late. What exactly does that mean? Do we start off in Year 2? Year 3? Or Year 1 because late or not you always start at year 1? From then we go all the way to graduation year supposedly. I believe the game will take place between the years of 1889 to 1896 depending. Kind of rings together with Dumbledor admitting to Harry that he lit the curtains on fire "accidentally" in his 4th year. lol

Octavia Blackthorn I would suggest buying a Ps4 or Xbox One if the only reason for buying is the Hogwarts Legacy game. I use both, and they suffice very well. They would also be a lot cheaper, so it would not be such a waste of money.

Dumbledore will probably be in it and we will hear and see places like three broomsticks, the train to school, hogsmede, and other places that we have seen. Characters are doubtful except Dumbledore. He went to school in the 1890s, he would be a student but most likely in year 6 or 7 as a highly capable wizard.

I'm calling it now, the game will end with a cutscene where we meet a young yet to be sorted first year who is nervous and give him a pep talk, like Harry did to his son, and then the name Albus Dumbledore will be called and he will be sorted into Gryffindor, and we zoom out of the castle and fade to black XD

i expect the game will take place in 1892 or beyond so we can get to experience seeing Dumbledore in his 1st year of school or the year b4 i don't think it will take place any earlier that 1890
What if u can ask the headmaster to have a secret dueling ground and he or she has the ability to say yes or no depending on your choices through out the game

Dumbledore was born in the 1880s so we might bumb into him as a kid
