Good reaction. They were never a joke, they were just original and different to everything else and they're the only ones doing what they do - some have tried to follow, none came close. 'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - that was a very important thing for them as well. As with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards. They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time .... and she let it go. We all know Moa wouldn't hurt a fly. The figures in white were the girls all along. They were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves. Did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that. This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards". Live at Download 2016 in the UK is a very popular live performance - done in the English rain. If you want to see them in an arena with all the lasers, lights and special effects then live at Budokan 2021 is particularly good.
Nice one, thanks! "Karate" is on their poppier side but that main riff comes out from nowhere and hits you like a bus. And it hits harder live, of course. 😁 This music video is one of their best (if not the best: multiple award winning, etc.) and it pretty much explains the lyrics, which are about resilience and endurance. 🤘🦊
Yes you're absolutely right, they do create their own genre, it called "kawaii metal" which is means "cute metal". There are plenty of kawaii metal band inspired by babymetal, but non of them are successful as babymetal yet.
@@SirGreenDay I think you need to check their interviews because what they say should be the official truth. You'll see that when asked they refer to their genre sometimes as kawaii metal and sometimes as BABYMETAL. In fact, I just watched an early video where they said their genre was "BABYMETAL kawaii metal" but it seemed to me that Su wanted to say "heavy metal kawaii metal" but got translated as their genre was "BABYMETAL".

Karate (Babymetal song):- "Karate" is a song by the Japanese 🇯🇵 heavy metal band Babymetal from their second studio album, Metal Resistance. Great reaction! We already told you what this very special genre is called: Kawaii Metal. BABYMETAL invented it 😉 Their style is SO unique, you won´t find any other band (or "Metal Dance Unit") doing that kind of metal stuff. "Karate" MV was a great choice, too! It won some prices, and the song is killer, plain and simple. The MV had some movie references in it, did you notice? The scene with Su-Metal crushing the stones might be from "Dragonball-Z", that one I don´t know exactly. But it fits her very well, the petite, tiny, metal trooper with unbelievable power crushing everything. Moametal´s scene is a reference to "Karate Kid" (a movie from the deepest 80´s), which in turn is a reference to an ancient legend of a Japanese swordsman named Musashi Miyamoto, who tried to catch a fly with chopsticks. Moametal let the fly go tho, because she loves everybody 😊Yuimetal´s scene is a reference to the last movie Bruce Lee did, "Enter the Dragon". Did you notice that the camera lens was shattered? Yuimetal is known for her speed, power, and accuracy while doing the choreo. Almost like a machine. Sometimes she is called "Yuibot" because of that 😁 You should try a live version of "Karate", like you did with "Ratatata". - Karate Live Download Festival 2016 4K(video and audio remastered) which you´ll find at the HEAD123456 channel. You´ll get BABYMETAL´s super famous "Kami Band" with this! 😁
BABYMETAL was launched in 2010 as a spin-off club of Sakura Gakuin, a group of girls who were only able to grow up and were focused on school life and club activities.😊 The central figure, SU-METAL, also known as Suzuka Nakamoto, was a member of a unit called "Karen Girls" managed by the same agency, but her love of metal led her to be discovered by a producer who was planning to fuse idols with heavy metal, and BABYMETAL was formed.MOAMETAL and YUIMETAL, who are in charge of "screaming and dancing", were initially looking for a member with the singing skills of SU-METAL, but because SU-METAL's personality was too unique, they gave her the role of "dancing cutely around her" 😌By the way, SU-METAL's sister is not currently active as an idol, but she was a former member of the still popular idol group Nogizaka46. And while they are doing the seikentsuki, they shout "Seiya!" and "Soiya!" which are shouts they use to pump themselves up to increase the strength of the blow and to prevent injury. Also, the "tile breaking" and "bat breaking" that they do near the climax are things that are shown in karate trials (though of course they don't do them 😅Also, the custom of picking up a flying fly with your fingers is based on the legend that the vagabond Miyamoto Musashi picked up a flying fly with his chopsticks and threw it away🥢😆
Just saw this live yesterday, and yeah, it Djented all up in my ear 🤣. We got the whole crowd doing the chants too, it was epic! Check out the live from Download UK 2016 when you can. Babymetal is always better live. 🤘🦊
When I saw their first 3 music videos in 2014 I was sure that this was a joke band trying to make fun of the heavy metal genres. In fact I was laughing so hard that I cried. A few weeks later I saw a LIVE clip of them, BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL), and that's how I found out they are freaking serious. I cried again because I was so impressed. No, I don't cry often but I have been to 6 or 7 BABYMETAL shows since that. This song is about fighting your biggest enemy, which is yourself. Sometimes you get knocked down but with the help of your friends you can get up and fight back. If you look at the effects you notice they change color during the video. Keep training and learn new moves, that's how you win.
The genre is Kawaii Metal, but guess what, the name BABYMETAL is not about the age of the girls, but indeed a reference to the birth of a new wave in metal music. And it's also a pun, cause there's literally one point of difference between Heavy Metal and BABYMETAL writing down their pronunciations in japanese. 🤘🦊⚡️
Last night, an audience of 6,000 in Washington, D.C., enjoyed this song. Recommends The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for a live performance of Gimme chocolate!
Nice reaction. I don't know where you got the notion Babymetal was created as a joke in anyway shape or form. Their producer felt the metal genre in Japan had become stale boring old and fading away. Tower Records which are still a big deal in Japan. Someone famously posted a shot of how the metal department went from an entire floor to a shelf next to the discount rack. That's bad. In order to save metal Koba (Babymetal's producer) created Babymetal out of another idol group he was producing Sakura Gakuin. By mixing metal with the very popular idol Jpop Koba's brilliant but risky plan worked. Now folks from around the world know about Japanese metal artist and all because 3 young ladies had the guts to try something they had never done before. That and their crazy amount of talent and skills. All while being Kawaii. Now instead of metal always being about dark and bad things in your life. Babymetal brings light and positive uplifting messages and a ton of joy just watching them perform. Some may have taken them as a joke all those years ago, but the joke was on them. They earned their stripes and awards along the way. Including Su as best female metal vocalist for 2024. Sometimes folks like a good joke. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises
Grington and IAMisLove must both be sleeping if I'm here before them after this has been up for 9 hours. You said it perfectly, this is not normal, yet it is normal for Babymetal. And yes they are their own genre with Kawaii Metal. As I'm sure you've already been told in your two other reactions, Babymetal are definitely a live band and should be experienced as such, though, for a first listen I will typically request the music video for this song and a select couple of others. Also, in your two previous videos they consisted of members: Su-Metal, Moametal and Momometal. In this video it was Su-Metal, Moametal and Yuimetal. Yuimetal left in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues. Also, at the end, it's not a viper that they do. It's actually the Kitsune or Fox sign that has become synonymous with them. For your next reaction I would suggest either Road of Resistance Live in Japan or as others have already mentioned the live version of Karate at Download 2016
What you call it is Kawaii metal. A sub-genre of metal created by Babymetal. And in a nutshell you expressed what is so wonderful about Babymetal. It shouldn't work but it just does. And beautifully. Would love some more BM reactions and would suggest going live. BM can make some great MV's but to really get the feel for the whole BM experience live is the way to go. I'd like to recommend a more recent live performance. Metali, Legend MM Live 2024, link follows: ruclips.net/video/fxzaQAFAVl8/видео.html
Ok. It's obvious you've fallen down a deep fox hole and there's no getting out now. Only 50 some ought more songs to go. But are you ready for some MORE amazing Japanese music? Are ya?! Cause let me tell you, Babymetal are only the stepping stone to what Japan has to offer. I'm not going to list a hundred different bands and groups for you to react to, cause trust me, there are a ton of outstanding groups out there. I'm going to suggest one band at a time. Take it slow. The next band you should react to is HANABIE. (Pronounced Ha-nah-bee-eh). I band that labeled themselves as Harajukucore. Harajuku being the young adult fashion district of Tokyo and "core" referring to their metalcore sound. The song: "We Love Sweets". If this doesn't blow your mind, then nothing will. Just try it😉👍

Single-mindedly, seiya soiya, let's fight on
with our fists more... with our spirits more...
with making all sharper.

even if we get sad and unable to stand up.
Run!

Sometimes she is called "Yuibot" because of that 😁
You should try a live version of "Karate", like you did with "Ratatata".

Let’s fight on🙏🥷
BABYMETAL was launched in 2010 as a spin-off club of Sakura Gakuin, a group of girls who were only able to grow up and were focused on school life and club activities.😊
The central figure, SU-METAL, also known as Suzuka Nakamoto, was a member of a unit called "Karen Girls" managed by the same agency, but her love of metal led her to be discovered by a producer who was planning to fuse idols with heavy metal, and BABYMETAL was formed.MOAMETAL and YUIMETAL, who are in charge of "screaming and dancing", were initially looking for a member with the singing skills of SU-METAL, but because SU-METAL's personality was too unique, they gave her the role of "dancing cutely around her" 😌By the way, SU-METAL's sister is not currently active as an idol, but she was a former member of the still popular idol group Nogizaka46.
👍An awesome MV with a great message. This MV is special to me as it was my introduction to the wonderful world of BABYMETAL. Great reaction. 🦊 🖖❤
_Ossu!_ 🦊🤘🥋
Of course you don't want to mess with these girls.👊
The genre is call Kawaii Metal (kawaii meaning "cute" or "Adorable")
Babymetal got everyone surprised the first time. 🙂
Don't think the girls can really fight, but they are definitely very fit.
Nice reaction!! Cool MV🦊osu押忍👊
Live BABYMETAL
INSANITY
Very good reactions! I also suggest Hanabie, Nemophila, Band Maid, Lovebites, Kiyoshi too! I think you'll enjoy it. 🤘🤘🤘🦊🦊🦊🔥🔥🔥
You are only at the edge of the Foxhole . watch the live version of Karate at Download in the UK 2016 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
I think 'BxMxC' is the logic continuation to this song, you should really check BMC MV and live performance (both are fire)
Actually, this is Japanese culture. We are crazy sometimes 😅
Now watch megitsune Live at PIA arena, Monochrome Live at PIA arena and Rondo of Nightmare with Mischief of Metal Gods intro
React to F-HERO x BODYSLAM x BABYMETAL - Leave It All Behind
Go watch their live
Subbing for more babymetal
What you call it is Kawaii metal. A sub-genre of metal created by Babymetal. And in a nutshell you expressed what is so wonderful about Babymetal. It shouldn't work but it just does. And beautifully. Would love some more BM reactions and would suggest going live. BM can make some great MV's but to really get the feel for the whole BM experience live is the way to go. I'd like to recommend a more recent live performance. Metali, Legend MM Live 2024, link follows: ruclips.net/video/fxzaQAFAVl8/видео.html
Bro you need to react ado (ready steady)song.
I prefer you doing the live version of Babymetal
Big band
