When Corsair released their first high performing SSD entry onto the PCIe 4 m.2 NVMe tier, they did so into a significantly less crowded marketplace than it is right now. The MP600 was one of the first Phison E16 SSDs to arrive on the scene and it made quite the mark! Then the Phison E18 prosumer model arrived in the MP600 Pro (Originally reviewed here on NASCompares, it scored very well in its review and benchmark ), but fast forward to 2022 and corsair have revisited this SSD with a new heatsink and tweaked firmware (optimized in favour of PS5 utilization) in the new Corsair MP600 Pro LPX. This new revision of the Corsair MP600 embraces some physical differences in the heatsink (changing the rather beefy PC targetted H/S), but for the most part is the same SSD, with the same architecture as the MP600 that came before it. That said, with the boost in SSD deployment in PS5 consoles around the world, the move by the brand to make their flagship prosumer SSD more accessible to that market makes a lot of sense. That said, is this the same old SSD with a simple paint job? What sets the Corsair MP600 Pro LPX apart from its predecessor? Let's find out.

just bought it off your review, thanks sir!
I got the 1Tb model for $92 USD during a sale. At that price, along with the Corsair 5 year warranty and a preinstalled heatsink, I couldn't resist.
i'm about to get the 2tb at best buy for $155, sounds much cheaper than a year ago when he made this video.
was considering getting a more expensive brand but the little bit of research i've done implies it's not really worth the extra $50 to $100 for maybe slightly faster speeds that are hardly noticable.
Enjoy running out of space again
@@jollama Umm, I'll never run out of space, as I only play 2 or 3 games at a time, from start to finish.
i have like 90 games on my ps5, most of them ps4 games saved on an 2tb external hard drive which is full. my ps5 internal storage is full, and the extra 2tb internal hard drive i just bought only has 2 or 3 games on it.
i got so many digital games once i realized how cheap you can get them waiting for sales. like x-com 2 with all dlc was 5.99, metal gear solid 5 complete edition was about 5.99. both on sale from like $100. $100 is way overpriced for games that old of course, but $5 or $6 is a really good deal.
Thanks so much for this video you have the exact same one u have. All the way down to the 2TB. Thanks so much love u for this.
Just grabbed a 2tb from best buy. Thanks bro!
Quite a bit off topic, but since you test so many M.2 drives, how do you store the one's you're not using? I just replaced a perfectly good one in my computer (for a faster one) and am sitting here looking at this thing the size of a stick of gum and wondering how I'm going to store it.
@@maddog31255 That's a good USE for the old ones. But, I'm wondering how to STORE them. The things are so small that I could easily lose them amongst all my other old computer supplies/equipment. Plus, there's the labeling of what's on them.
I would probably place it back in the package and then put a sticky note on it.
Buy a USB case for it? Then you can use it as an external drive?
I order the 4tb one as well
Does the elecgear heatsink fit above a firecuda 530 (with the cover) ssd?
I have the firecuda 530 2 to with the elecgear plus a thermal pad on the two side and it’s fit really good 👍 best combo for the ps5 at this moment
2 TB Corsair MP600 Pro LPX or the 2TB WD_sn850X with Heatsink ??? I can get them for essentially the exact price right now with a discount code I have. Which one should I get and why ? I'm so stuck I need help 😢
Definitely the sn850x
Well i started off with the wd sn850 with heatsink 1tb and i just barely ordered the 4tb corsair hope everything goes well
How was the WDSN850 and what was the reason to switch?
@@derekrodriguez7891 probably because if you want 4tb your options become more limited, at least based on my online browsing.
i wanted a 4tb but it costs as much as my ps5, so i'm just gonna get a 2tb.
i was gonna get a corsair on sale, but after seeing a lot of good things in the comments, i might spend the extra $40 on the wd black.
How many times can you say “SSD” in one video?
😂😂😂 facts that’s all I hear him saying now just say Corsair and only ssd sometime oh no now I just said it 🙊 ssd ssd ssd ssd ssd ssd ssd ssd ssd 😂😂😂
I hear benchmark more than anything lol
Just got the 2tb on amazon for 122 out the door after tax. Seemed like a killer deal to me.
I got it at Best Buy for 110. Not a bad deal at all.
2TB popped up on the Amazon Prime deals for £99. For that it seemed like a steal.
Bought it for the same price lol
Just to let people know, the SSD's I've seen with the best Benchmarks are Samsung 980 pro, PNY CS3140, Western Digital SN850. PNY CS3140 on the majority of ps5's runs the max benchmark of 6,558. However, PNY CS3140 may vary in benchmarks. PNY CS3140 can vary between 6,000 to 6,558. Western Digital SN850 gets a benchmark between 6,200 to 6,500. Samsung 980 pro with a firmware update you download from your Samsung Magician through your PC gets a benchmark of 6,400 to 6,500 on your ps5. Samsung 980 pro is the only ssd that I know that has a firmware update that is optimized for your ps5, so your benchmark will be more consistent than other brands. Without the firmware update, Samsung 980 pro benchmark on your ps5 is 5,500 to 5,700.
My PNY 3140 bench shows from 5300 to 5800 MB/s. I bought WD Black SN850 1TB. 3 Times bench shows 6500 MB/s. Never again PNY.
@@kyopolska7274 same! Never had a PNY but have the SN850 and ran several benchmarks and it always reads 6500 upwards! Remarkable SSD and probably the best factory fitted heatsink plus performance imho
So you need a PC to get the firmware update for the 980 pro?
Does the 980 pro with heatsink come with latest update?
I’ve been thinking of getting the 980 pro but with a elecgear heatsink.
@@crazzy24kane Yes, you need PC for firmware update.
You can’t get the firmware update from the PS5 ?
Mine is in ancorage alaska being held up by customs. 😵💫
Why does the Corsair have a noticeable green tint ?
In terms of the footage? Probably because it was recorded on an external capture card
Bro how do we get that matrix awakens game
you cannot, Sony removed it from the play store, I couldn't get it too mate.
@@msanchez1680d why'd they do such a thing? they're assholes? is that an actual game that's coming out at some point or what? all i know is the matrix awakens movie sucked so bad i couldn't get past 40 mins. i tried twice and it seemed to get stupider each time.
@@Jack_80 it was just a tech demo, nothing real planned from it
Which is the best performance SSD for the PS5? I've tried hunting benchmarks and figuring this out, but there's not much information and it's complicated.
I don't care for thermals or power consumption (so as long as it's okay for the PS5). I want the fastest SSD that maintains its performance the longest.
Unfortunately, there's not one brand of ssd that's absolutely the best overall for ps5. Each ps5 and each ssd (even from the same brand) vary in benchmarks from one another. For example, PNY CS 3140 may get a benchmark of 6,558 on your ps5, but on another ps5 it may get a significantly lower benchmark. The closest to the best overall benchmark you probably can get on a consistent manner is the Samsung 980 pro after you download the firmware update from Samsung magician through your PC. As far as I know, Samsung 980 pro is the only SSD that has a firmware update to be optimized on your ps5. Although, even with a firmware update, the benchmark still varies from 6,400 to 6,500. Without the update, Samsung 980 pro is 5,500 to 5,700 on your ps5.
@@richardoh3666 thanks for letting me know. I was going to bite the bullet and buy this SSD when it was sale a month ago. Now it's back to fill price. I wish I had bought it now.
It is like on PC parts, some have an edge on some things, others on another things. Normally is just price to GB that you need to worry the most.
@@campersruincod6134 Sorry for the late reply, but if you can wait for a good price, I'd suggest you wait until at least by August of this year. Samsung is launching their Pcie 5 SSD by July, and I expect PCIE 4 ssd's to drop in price significantly by August. And if you're willing to wait further, wait until Oct/Nov because other Manufacturers will launch their version of Pcie 5 ssds and PCIE 4 will be the cheapest by this time. Right now gen 3 pcie Samnsung 970 evo 2tb is $219 on Amazon. I expect Samsung 980 pro 2 tb to be around $210 to $230 by Oct/Nov. As for myself, I was planning to buy the PNY CS3140 2tb last fall, but that was before the firmware update for Samsung 980 pro, so I was going to wait for the Samsung price drop for this year. Unfortunately, I was gifted the Western Digital SN850 1tb in January, and I won't be buying any other SSD. I really wanted the Samsung 980 pro 2tb.
@@richardoh3666 would the firmware be installed on newer manufactured versions?
I thought every gen 4 drive performed practically the same on ps5
News flash, they don’t
My speed shows as 1776mb/s
mine shows as 6410
Be sure DMI Gen is set to 3 or so in BIOS.
Corsair sold me a dead drive and it seems I’m not alone. 💩
A lot of hype on Corsair right now. IGN even called it their recommend SSD they tell everyone to buy for their PS5s.
@@chrisginoc so it’s junk? Shoukd I get the western digital ps5 one for $50 more ?
@@VisibleEnd no they just get unlucky
@@christiansantamaria7233 I got western digital it was on sale for the same
@@VisibleEnd right now the wd is $45 more than this for the 2tb drives. might get the wd because best buy has them in stock right now and you have to order the cosair online, and i'm not big on online shopping.
if something is wrong i want to be able to just go back to the store and exchange it, not have to send back the faulty one and wait for them to send me a new one.
Bro can’t even say terabyte
no difference lol
Honestly, that's what you want to see. If it was slightly faster that'd be a bonus, but what you don't want is for it to be any slower - bascially as long as they function like the onboard drive does you're golden.
