Recommendation Para-Norman and Kubo and the two strings are brilliant, kubo is a beautiful movie your gonna need tissues 😢. Hope you react to it one day if you haven’t watch it x
Surprisingly they intended to make an even darker film. The people who were swallowed would not survive, the children would use bullies who chased Chowder and DJ to trick the house instead of the vacuum cleaner... they also cut several scenes inside the house because it would have been too scary. I love this movie so much, it’s my favorite animated movie since I was just a kid.
Monster House was always like... the IDEAL spooky / Halloween movie to me as a kid. It's genuinely unsettling, but only just so. I think it's one of the starts to me knowing that animation isn't expressly for children alone.
This movie is so underrated. It’s mo cap is actually super impressive, it’s creepy, it’s sad, it’s funny, and it’s very creative. Truly a classic! The "anatomy" of the house is honestly pretty genius. The basement being the stomach, the front door carpet being the tongue, main chandelier the Uvula, etc. Kinda wish we saw more of the house but oh well. The design is really neat personally.
Also wish we saw more of this house but this is always a halloween movie I watch every year along with Coraline! Also love your icon! That's Legoshi from Beastars right?
Im glad more and more people are watching this movie as it's legitimately an underrated cult-classic gem in my opinion and a pretty horrifying premise that actually scared me as a kid, it actually had an interesting twist with the house possessed by the ghost of the old man's dead wife
@@shania991 I mean she did start out as circus freakshow attraction so maybe she never knew her original family, not had anyone care too much about her, since she did seem like a very rage filled person, and they did build the house in the middle of no where before more people moved
This one is such an underrated classic. Impressive motion capture, a twist that both saddens me and creeps me out every time, and pretty edgy humor for it's rating.
bro 9 was so fucking good but that was more aimed at teenagers and young adults, it was SO MUCH more disturbing than anything in Coraline or Monster House
Fun Facts on Monster House: • Monster House takes place in 1983. •As of 2018, this is the only motion capture film to feature an entirely original story and not be based on existing source material. • Chowders's line "DJ, you piss in bottles?" had to be re-dubbed "...you pee in bottles?" to help maintain a PG rating. You can still see Chowders's lips speak the original line. • The tricycle scene at the beginning of the movie is a homage to Stanley Kubrick's film rendition of Stephen King's The Shining (1980). • In the original screenplay, DJ and Chowder are harassed by two bullies named Ryan and Cameron who get eaten after DJ purposely lures them to the house as bait. The two characters were removed from the screenplay because the studio thought their death was far too dark, and that the bullies combined with DJ's cruel babysitter, babysitter's boyfriend, and Nebbercracker all made the film seem much more cruel. • Three super soakers are used by the kids when inside the house and two of them actually don't exist. Only DJ's water gun exists and it was not invented until 1993. • 10:07 the shadow that reaches out to grab DJ is foreshadowing that the house is Constance
I didn't know that happens in '83. That explains the arcade machine in the pizzeria, the outfits and Halloween of Siouxsie and the Banshees in the credits
You know how for animated movies over the past few years, we've had a lot of twist villains? Characters who don't seem like a bad guy at first but then only to reveal to be the main antagonist? You ask me, Mr. Nebbercracker is the best at being the complete opposite. When we first see him and for a good chunk of the movie, we just assume he's nothing more than that grouchy old neighbor who hates everyone and takes the toys from kids that end up on his lawn. But then, when we learn the truth, he's revealed as one of the most tragic heroes in animation. Only scaring people away from his home, so the spirit of his house wouldn't attack or kill any anyone. I mean, what else could he have done if you think about it? He couldn't just move because whoever would get the house afterward would definitely die, and he couldn't bring himself to tear his house down since the spirit in it was his wife. A litteraly no win situation. But despite being stuck as a said guardian to the people of the town, he never gave up. For 45 years. Hell, he broke out of the local hospital and STOLE an ambulance just to make sure no one else got hurt or God forbid killed in his absence. And when he finally saw Constance for what she was willing to do to the kids, he was able to find the strength to do the right thing and save everyone. So ya, not only is *"Monster House"* a completely underrated animated film, but it has, without a doubt, one of the most tragic yet selfless heroes of all time.
Someone probably said it already, but the house didnt spit them out because they were children. She spit them out, because the girl messed with her uvula so the house would throw them up. Not really sure how you both missed that
I always felt this was a true coming of age Halloween story like kids who were in 8th grade going into highschool. You're still a kid but are exposed to a lot more adult things & tones. Really enjoyed the reaction guys!
My dad was the chef for this cast & crew! I remember when he told me he had seen the cast in all the mo cap balls and had never seen it before. He loved all the people he worked with on the movie.
You two did Great on figuring out certain scenes in this movie. FYI: But the scene when the little girl was telling the two boys that the house has a "uvula" which everyone has. Sooooo when Ya'll were confused on why the house spit them out. The little girl ran through the house and jumped on the uvula to make the house gag...
I watched this a couple years back to see if it was as creepy as I remembered it to be as a kid and I was so surprised to see that it still held up and gave me that creepy, unsettling feeling I felt when I was a kid watching it. definitely a goated Halloween movie imo
I love that so many big reactors on RUclips are checking out this underrated masterpiece. This is my childhood and watched it a lot growing up. Great story and well made mo-cap
I don't think its underrated per say. I just think The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline have a bigger audience and are therefore talked about more. I mean there's only a handful of successful animated horror-esque movies released in theaters so I think most people know this movie (it'd ALWAYS play on Cartoon Network). But the lore of Coraline for instance is more intriguing and fun for people to theorize with. Monster House is a straightforward good flick.
This movie was definitely one of my favorite movies as a kid and it still is. It’s funny, scary, and also tragic how the house became a monster. Great Halloween flick and great reaction guys.
I used to be terrified of this movie as a kid but the sad ending made me feel very SAD and at a loss and spooky and a different blend of emotion that I did not know existed
I love the "In your face disgrace" scene with Chowder. He says "three seconds on the clock", but takes 11 seconds after saying that, to finally toss the ball.
This is one of my all time favorite animated movies EVER ! Mr. Nebbercracker always scared me more than the house itself as a kid Theres another amazing animated movie called simply ''9'' (2009) starring Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly and John C. I use to watch this all the time as a kid. I always felt bad for Constance, being a bigger girl my whole life and getting picked on by practically everyone. I love this movie, I watch it almost every Halloween
This is literally one of my favorite movies as a kid it was so dark and was going to be even darker but, since it was for kids they had to lighten it up a bit. I love they pretty much guessed he wasn’t a bad grump old man he was literally just trying to keep the kids safe and it may have not been the right way but he obviously had a very good reason. I also felt really bad for Constance when I watched it when I was a little older she was literally used, exploited, and bullied. This movie all around is soooooo good and I’m happy Nebbercracker was free and gave the kids their toys back.
Me and my sister took our little cousins to see this and spent the whole time holding them and covering their faces. Years later me and my husband showed my niece and nephew, we ended up with them in our laps. 😂😂😂
The cops are the animated versions of Officer A Hole and B Dicks from Friday After Next. I use to have a DVD of this movie and I remember when it came out when I was a kid. This movie holds a special place in my heart.
Literally my favorite Halloween movie as a kid also I like in the beginning when the old man had a heart attack he was going to say stay away from “her”

seriously one of the most underrated kid's movies ever, probably the best I've ever seen "children's horror" done, even over Frankenweenie and Nightmare Before Christmas.
I grew up watching this movie and mannnn, this was a spooky movie, but not in a pure horror sense, but more in a fantasy sense. Absolutely love it. Watch it every year!
Speaking to the camerawork: I saw this in the theater in 3D, which I believe was a major factor in its intended look. I loved it then, as much as I enjoyed your reaction!
This movie is a true gem, when I was little I saw this movie in 3D in theaters and the jumpscare where they said "don't look back" actually made me jump cause it was in 3D lol I love this movie so much though, it's an absolute classic!
OMG! I forgot about the existence of this movie! i remember watching this movie as a kid, everything about this was terrifying to me, the characters' design, the way they moved, the story, EVERYTHING, but i loved it nonetheless! What a terrifying nostalgia 😂
Funny how Tara mentions Home Alone and the similarity between the neighbours when the Mum from Home Alone is the same Mum in this… yes I’m British and it’s spelt Mum not Mom🤣
A few years back I worked in an after school care program. On the last friday of each month we'd watch a movie, and this is the one I picked for October. They LOVED it! 😂
"Are you two mentally challenged? If so I'm certified to teach you baseball" It wasn't untill recently I caught that line and while it might not have aged well it killed me when i heard it again 😂
Only very recently did I find out this film was motion capture and I couldn't believe I've gone all these years without knowing it and on top of that Steve busemi plays Nebercracker, which I never knew but once I found out I realised that I can totally hear his voice and see his face in the character. Nebercracker use to scare the absolute shit out of me when i was a kid, especially that scene where he dies on the kid and when he runs out the house towars the little girl at thr beginning
You’d think that whenever Nebbercracker had a heart attack on top of DJ, that paramedics or cops would ask DJ or Chowder what happened or they’d at least call DJ’s parents… I love this movie 😭 this was mine and my sisters childhood and we just watched it yesterday lol. We don’t care if it’s Halloween, Christmas, whatever, we’re gonna watch holiday movies all year long lol
i loved this movie as a kid! there was a video game too that i played on the gamecube that was pretty fun! i just remember absolutely loving how creeped out and scared the movie and game made me feel
My 17 year old walked by while I'm watching your reaction, stopped and asked, "You watching Monster House? I recognize that music and doorbell anywhere!" It's one of our family's faves!
9:57 just gonna point out that hand/arm is of the women haunting the house you can tell by the size/shape of the added fat. This means thats not just a nightmare but her actually haunting his dreams because he had no idea about her or what she looked like. Meaning she has the power to infect the surrounders dreams. But she probably would have been in her husbands dreams so they could be together at night but now hes not there shes trying to attack the one who took him. Ik im reading into it alot
Do you know what I'm still baffled by? At the end of the movie, Constance, or rather her spirit in the house, gets up and starts chasing Mr. Nebbercracker and the kids across the neighborhood, which eventually leads to a massive explosion. Now, mind you, this all happens on early Halloween night. *How the fuckin hell did no one else notice a gigantic literal monster house roaming the streets?!* Again, this all happened on Halloween. And unlike prior to the rest of the movie, the house is actually moving! You seriously mean to tell me a group of kids in costumes or someone who was giving out candy didn't see anything? Bull. Shit!
This one had been in my "Halloween watchlist" for a while, I finally watched it a week ago and I was quite impressed. Genuinely funny with a good story, thrills but not too much, and some deep emotions. So I didn't have a problem not feeling involved enough like Greg did. It's all subjective of course.
The first time I saw this movie It was in 2008, I was 8 years old and it became very popular that I remember that they put it as a new presentation on Oreo cookies for Halloween and it was one of my favorites.
I saw this movie on the recommendation of an adult friend of mine. When I was in the theatre, it was just me and a punch of kids from what I think was a child's birthday party. The only other adult there besides me was the chaperone, who I'm guessing was someone's dad. The party guest's were dumbfounded by the movie, but the dad and I laughed are asses off the entire time.
The basement scene where we see Constance covered in cement and dj falling in front of her was always a so creepy and scary to me as a kid. Still creepy now and that’s why I love it.

this is the first animated movie that scared the shit out of me, it's also heartwrenching!! huhuhuh
Funny how Tara mentions Home Alone and the similarity between the neighbours when the Mum from Home Alone is the same Mum in this… yes I’m British and it’s spelt Mum not Mom🤣
Man I remember my substitute teacher showed this movie in class, wow I was horrified but looking back it was a damn good movie to me.
I love this movie so much. One of my go to movies during Spooky Season!!
To this day, still my favourite animated movie, criminally underrated.
You guys made an excellent choice posting a reaction to this piece of art.
This movie is 1 of these films that I didn’t hear much about but loved it. I’m always so happy to see Tara, she’s my favourite guest…..
One of my fav Halloween movies! Super underrated
They took the classic "get off my lawn" cliche and created a very effective story around it and expanded on it in a very fun way
Happy Halloween. 🎃 👻💀☠️
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME also scared the shit out of me when I was younger it’s so good the early 2000s was great
My 17 year old walked by while I'm watching your reaction, stopped and asked, "You watching Monster House?
*How the fuckin hell did no one else notice a gigantic literal monster house roaming the streets?!*
Again, this all happened on Halloween. And unlike prior to the rest of the movie, the house is actually moving! You seriously mean to tell me a group of kids in costumes or someone who was giving out candy didn't see anything? Bull. Shit!
This was one of my favorite movies growing up!! I quote it all the time, people don’t talk about it enough!!
I LOVE this movie! My parents took me to see it opening night lol. Even as an adult now its still creepy
This movie absolutely terrified me as a kid, but I now love watching it as an adult, an amazing movie for the Halloween season.
This movie was so much fun to watch during Halloween when I was a kid. Also I need more Saw reactions please!!!!!
This one had been in my "Halloween watchlist" for a while, I finally watched it a week ago and I was quite impressed. Genuinely funny with a good story, thrills but not too much, and some deep emotions. So I didn't have a problem not feeling involved enough like Greg did. It's all subjective of course.
I never realized how underrated the is childhood classic was. It’s such a great movie to watch during the Halloween times or anytime really
4:49 Catherine O’Hara is her name. She was also known for being in “Beetlejuice” and in the first two “Home Alone” movies.
Stopping by to say I love you @ReelRejects
This is a childhood gem for me
The first time I saw this movie It was in 2008, I was 8 years old and it became very popular that I remember that they put it as a new presentation on Oreo cookies for Halloween and it was one of my favorites.
29:30 - house literally threw them up because the girl jumped on the uvula.
I saw this movie on the recommendation of an adult friend of mine. When I was in the theatre, it was just me and a punch of kids from what I think was a child's birthday party. The only other adult there besides me was the chaperone, who I'm guessing was someone's dad. The party guest's were dumbfounded by the movie, but the dad and I laughed are asses off the entire time.
this movie was a big part of my childhood!
The basement scene where we see Constance covered in cement and dj falling in front of her was always a so creepy and scary to me as a kid. Still creepy now and that’s why I love it.
Such a great movie. Reminded me of Halloweens past as a kid in the eighties. I saw this in the theater. The 3D was top notch.
This movie is SUCH a gem. Good vibes for Halloween. Loved this movie when I was a kid, and my 3 year old son actually loves this movie, as well.
33:34 - "Now that's what I call a 'mobile' home." [double drum, cymbal]
