One note. Fern is not Heiter’s analog. She’s Frieren’s. Frieren is Himmel’s analog. You can even make the results of the exam an analog to pulling the sword. I’m a writer and I study this show because it does so many things so well.
I agree she is Himmel's analog. She is rebuilding her party, a new mage, a new warrior, a new (temporary) priest. The only one that didn't get a new party member to replace them is Himmel because it's Frieren being the one that replaces him.
@@bochibochi9990 Himmel is irreplaceable even after his death. The main plot of frieren is still about meeting him in heaven. In frieren's current party there isn't anyone who is both charismatic and well-loved by everyone as himmel was. Stark is closest to himmel in that regard since he is loved everywhere he goes. But his self doubt and past trauma is the reason he doesn't have his charisma or self-confidence yet. Frieren was and still is frieren, she is the character that ties both journeys together. Himmel was the reason frieren wanted to understand humans better and started putting more effort into her relationships with people around her. but the series already told us from the flashbacks that she was a always a good person at heart. Her very long life span made her emotionally distant than most but she cares about the people around her a lot

My favourite song from the OST is “A Sunrise Worth Seeing”. It starts off with a relaxed medieval vibe, then about halfway through it switches to just piano. The song plays at 3 parts (that I can recall). Obviously, during the New Years Sunrise episode, but aside from that, just the piano section plays in episode 10 when Flamme tells Frieren about the spell to create flowers and again in episode 27, just the piano section plays during the flashback when Himmel is telling Frieren about the time she cast the flower spell for him in the woods. The way this beautiful, gentle, and simple piano score connects these emotional and integral moments in Frierens life is why I love this show
theres something about this show where everything just clicks to make this immersive experience that truly made me feel like i was going on this adventure with them
Evan Call knows how to make a good sound track. You have Frieren, Violet Evergarden, and My Happy Marriage...which explains partly why that show dragged me in.
Anyone who says Frieren sucks is objectively wrong. The problem is most people confuse "I like (or don't)" with "it's good (or bad)", when the two are literally not related at all. I was ready to be disappointed in the magic certification arc ("groan: Oh no! A f-ing tournament arc!"), but I was proven wrong: the whole thing is used to develop the side characters who I'm pretty sure we'll see again (at least those like Übel, Denken and Metode) and also to show how thoughtful and smart Frieren is, and more clarity on Fern's set of values. It also serves to show some very interesting aspects of Serie, and - this last is personal, so it doesn't count as quality points - has a lot of nice shots of her feet.
>Fern is approaching being capable of deating Frieren That's false. She couldn't even touch clone Frieren while the clone was busy fighting the real thing. The only way Fern landed a hit in was when Frieren created a huge opening by opening herself up. In a 1v1 Fern would have been smoked in the first minute.
I know this is sacrilege, but I think the 1st-class Mage Exam arc isn't as good as the earlier ones. It just gets way too bogged down, with more characters than it needed. And while I know the internet loves Übel, her "if you just delude yourself you can do it" power is a bad one, because it has no rules to follow, which means it can't be used in clever ways. It's always just "well, the author decided she was going to win/lose" for every fight, which has all the same problems as any deus ex machina.
Fair point with how lose the rules are on Ubel. She does get outplayed fairly often though. I like the final exam being a nothing, but prefer the more contained and personal arcs.
@@comfylilin She gets outplayed sometimes, sure, but it makes it feel like author fiat when she wins or loses, rather than the characters doing something well.
Okay so I'm once again the guy who just says it out loud but Frieren is pretty decent, even good at times but overall massively overhyped at best, similar to SAO or the Barbie Movie or anything thats designed to appeal to as many people as possible by being "relatable" and never too "edgy" or deep.
Then I tell you that Frieren is NOT Overhyped like other fucking Garbage after one episode. Frieren has slowly becoming the number 1 after his runtime because it's a absolute godlike Adaption! You are just be pissed that your favorite Anime ist not number 1.
One thing I want to highlight is that the whole motivation for the exam arc was for the party to keep their snack money.
"So if you want to eat cake, you better become a first class mage, fern"
"if you put it in that way, lets go"
@@calronkeltaran493 thats very convincing
One review said Frieren didn't have to go so hard in the fights. Everything about it was so well executed
I need a Frieren season 2 really bad tbh! Really love this anime.
