GT Sport penalty system is like when the teacher punishes you for fighting back against the bully and tells the bully to cut it out.
yes brother and it's fucking frustrating. And sportsmanship rating keeps dropping to hell. Also if I may add, there were some nice experiences with some really fair drivers, but most of the time someone push me out, gets 1 sec while I lost 8 or 10 sec. Stupid fucking system
That actually came from sport refereeing where retaliation is seen as worse than the initial assault or foul. Schools took it up because teachers are basically dumb.
@@SvenTviking Retaliation is stupid in real life as well as in games. Revenge is a dish best served cold, with a subpoena and the support of local law enforcement. Not in the heat of the moment.
Remember: Bullies (griefeers etc) want you to fight them because they can beat you in a brawl, but if you send them two uniformed people with batons, they are not so tough anymore.
As for racing:
One second is too little in the game it seems, it should be a drivetrhough of the pit lane or something else that costs you 10-30 seconds, not a single second slowdown where you are a brick in the road.

But in an online game, it is easier to not give them the satisfaction of a fight at all.
this game needs a real damage model.. cannot ram if you have no wheels
but what if some asshole punts you and your car gets damaged by it?? you would lose the race immediately with no fault of your own

The worst part about Veteran wasn't his driving style, it was the design choice for his Megane
The colors that he chooses are ugly... I think he did it on purpose.
Ugly color usually a good indicater of a bad driver... not always but often enough.

It doesn't really matter about the design, the Megane itself is a poor design choice, and just a terrible, ugly little car that only a Frenchman would drive.

yeah, apparently most racing game players are like this. i was too up until 2 weeks ago. heck, not even just for racing games, i play EVERYTHING offline on my own.
Too many people want to play sim racing games like arcade racing games. They are just shy of complaining the cars don't have guns.
i like, how they evolve from "i like Nfs:MW" to "im gonna play racing sim online"
Which is the reason devs should work, ideally together, on a system that really penalizes that sort of play. What we got so far works but we need it more fine tuned.
Track mania :) collisions have to be off and are by default.
- Get pushed wide from someone miles behind.
- Lose SR because you were racing on the line and because .. reasons.
- Get even worse races.

That's what annoys me about the SR system, it should be possible to see if you're breaking way too early for a corner, if you're breaking in the breaking zone and get rammed you shouldn't lose SR. Drives me mad.

This is so indicative of my experience. The 5 second penalty for basically Missiling someone off the track needs to be more like a 20 second penalty. And even then, you know your somehow going to get penalised for someone else doing it to you.
Black flags are a thing in real life. They should be part of this game as well, and there should be a cumulative penalty for being involved in accidents along the way.
Just add real damage and it would clear up
There should be a penalty system where if someone rams another person off and the game detects the injustice the rammer's PlayStation explodes, their controllers melt, their Fortnite accounts get deleted, and they receive a certificate saying:

The sad thing about these dirty drivers is that they are actually really good. He had a faster qualifying time with you. If he hadn't been so toxic, he probably would have held onto a top 5 or podium finish. It's a shame they take all that skill and just chuck it out the window.

They need a black flag penalty where if you ram someone off the the track you're disqualified or at least placed a lap down and ghosted.
It does DQ you if you do it enough lol. But you have to be consistently penalized.
That won't work, the penalty system as it is can't detect who is at fault. What if YOU get rear ended by someone and as a result YOU ram someone off aswell (can't be avoided), if the system would be implemented that you mentioned, it will punish you aswell.

first rule would be "if you hit the ass end.... then its your fault.... period"
but then something like..... if you are rear ended, then give grace period and/or penalize the rammer"
you could even add to the first rule "unless car infront moves at X feet per second left or right in the braking zone"

I just started playing. Honestly it's unplayable, every race someone does something dirty. Really makes the game terrible.
Spot on observations. There are even worse tactics going on at narrow tracks, like Tokyo expressway, where the guy behind you initiates contact and than taps the wall on purpose to hang penalties on you even though you did nothing. And he hardly looses any time by the slight tap of the wall.

My experience: This was my 2nd race in GT Sport online, i was 2nd, pretty good, then i got bumped off the track and pushed back to 5th. It would've been fine if the 6th place racer didn't spin me out pushing me back to 8th.
I’ve always been interesting in racing but never really understood what makes someone good or bad but this channel has opened my eyes to it and made me laugh along the way. Great stuff mate! Cheers.

literally the reason i quit iRacing.... I'm tired of getting pole every qualy and getting punted in the first lap. Even if you can get out of the low SR classes, I'm not wasting hundreds of hours to start having fun.
great video, I have had and kept my SR at an S for so long and lately the races have been chaos. one of my recent manufactures cup races I was shunted at what felt like every corner, there would be penalties but they just are not that severe enough, I lose about 5 seconds they only get 2 second penalty.
it's a shame as the game is great but atm only 1 out of 5 lobbies I enter seem to want to race fair.
any tips on other racing sims and their penalty systems? I have ps4, been looking at project cars 2 but will probably have a similar experience there.
maybe all the rammers are just waiting for a console release of wreckfest haha.

The idea of the 2nd account was to preserve ratings on my main account when the serious FIA races come around later this year. Racing against lower rated players was never the aim, it was just a necessary step as you have to start on low ratings. It's genuinely not fun at all racing in the lower levels. Fun for some memes but mostly boring and a smash-fest.
I need to go take a shower after viewing this. That was so dirty. He was holding you up as well so the 3rd place guy was involved the whole time. I'm triggered.

I was so scared I would've gone in a negative drain straight away racing guys like this. So glad my first few races were all pole to flag wins (just lucky, not that good) so I started out high

That's the thing I have in Gran Turismo - no damage. Event without penalty system a damage system would have him out of the race, ruing the race of less people.
Ivan Angelov well, in this instance, damage system still would have hurt SuperGT more because he got rammed off the course. The other guy's car still would have been mostly fine with some minor cosmetic damage. I remember playing GRID 2,which has damage modeling and scum drivers I think did better because they took advantage of the fact that the cars they attack with bad sportsmanship will likely end up with more damage than the aggressor at times.

Blacklisting.
Just ask after the race who you want to blacklist and you will never race them again.
I was so excited when you got past the Renault, and then shared your feeling when you got rammed off. Perfect timing with the slow motion cam. This is truly the stuff of broken controllers, but at 32 years old, I haven't gone that far in a long time. I'll just turn the game off and watch Letterkenny; crack open a beer.

Sure, if someone hits you, you're out too and people make a lot of dumb mistakes and do dumb things but you can't just shove through without any consequences
I used to race like that last guy, back when I played a lot of forza. as of recently i've started getting into sim racing properly, playing assetto corsa and ACC a lot and im really trying to focus on learning to overtake/ race cleanly and i think i've got a lot better. my SA can still use some work in ACC but im enjoying racing so much more now that im actually trying to avoid collisions haha
4:23 i see that you're having some problems with black borders around the screen while recording or taking screenshots, that's an easy fix, go to Settings>Sound and Screen>Display Area Settings and enlarge it to the maximum, that will solve the problem

As a new driver to this I do my best to break earlier since i don’t have the confidence to attack a corner yet in order to pass a player. That being said I’ve had multiple times I’m trying to gain confidence and someone rams me or someone I’m racing off the track but gets no penalty. So it’s difficult to build up my skill times when that happens.

It's worth remembering racing ultimately is about being first, at least in the minds of some of the fastest people. They will get dirty if that is what it takes. You can see this in real racing. Do not be surprised to see this in sim racing every where. It's why I race less and less, it's annoying, it's not fun.
@@TheChannel1978 Its because the way races are setup is broken. Collisions should result in realistic damage, meaning that if you bump with somebody your car doesn't drive straight anymore. But this introduces other problem, which is that it becomes very hard to finish any race, since everyone's cars are broken.
This could be fixed by assigning equal penalty points to both drivers in a collision, irrelevant of the driver that actually caused the collision. The points should have a real impact on your rating. This way, the drivers would have an actual incentive to avoid collisions at all costs, even if it means finishing last (its as if you are driving a real car, and it costs money to fix it)
@@kristupasantanavicius9093 A sturdy nudge probably won't screw up the alignment or bend the frame but, on a race car, damaging the bodykit kills aerodynamics and that extra drag would do them in.
I just started the Sport section & frustration is an understatement. Always getting bumped out of the road slowing for corners & dive bombs galore. And it’s my experience that they rarely get a penalty. But you go from say 3rd to the middle or farther back in the pack. This is where more bumping and shoving happens. And all this after turning many laps to get a good qualifying time. It has turned me off racing in Sport. Great vid bud. Cheers

It took me a while to get out of the dirty races and get my SR up. My route out was through the longer daily race C. I kept doing it again and again. I recommend this route to anyone looking to break away.

I’m rated SR A and agree. When you try to win you tangle with racers and your SR suffers. Just race easy and SR goes up and you leave the thugs behind you.

The CR(commentary rating) is absolutely brilliant and top level S+!
Needs some sort of damage model and incorporate that into the penalty system. Make it variable based on weather conditions too. What about also a possible "recovery" system for the guys that get knocked off the circuit where it deducts time elapsed instead of the penalty system that adds time elapsed? And then link the two so that the amount of time added/subtracted correlates to who gets knocked off / who did the ramming.

Make it cost SR or DR points to report someone (To avoid abuse) and then actually penalise people if they are reported by more than one player?

There's obviously a problem, a problem that needs a fair solution. Expecting clean players to just move out of the way for cheating pricks is not a just solution, that's some bullshit. I'd say to make it so if you hit someone, even accidentally, you automatically forfeit the race, no forgiveness. Learn to drive and don't make mistakes, or lose.

I have this happen to me a lot. I work my way up several positions and then someone behind forgets they have brakes and I get penalized for it. :/ More in the daily races than in the championship series, but it's there too. It's hard to build up your SR and DR when you're consistently drop-kicked.
I find that when someone comes up behind you and tries to squeeze up the inside on a corner and I get the penalty and not them.
Ouch, that hurts to watch. This is very similar to how it feels playing Rocket League when your teammate accidentally bumps you out of goal n the opposition scores the easiest goal of their lifes.
I’ve just started playing GT Sport this past weekend and my phone must have been listening in on my complaints, because here’s your recommended video.
I’ve done daily races 3 times and it makes me not even want to go back online. It’s so awful. I’ll be rammed from the back which will cause me to hit a barrier. I’ll get penalties for both contacts and it just doesn’t seem right.
This is really late and I hope you have gotten better lobbies, but a good thing to try is to not qualify and just drive the race last and hopefully your SR goes up if no one comes in contact with you from crashing in the first turn.
A year and a half later YT has just recommended this video to me again. Have to say the penalty system just seems to get worse and worse with this game.
The amount of penalties I have got from being hit by a dive bomber is ridiculous, but even worse is when you connect with a car that is spun out and blocking the whole track, and you get a penalty for hitting them. Try to avoid it by going off track, get a penalty for ignoring track limits.
Last night I got a penalty for hitting a stationary car at the start of a race because the guy obviously was not at his PS4 when the race started.
That has to be one of the sneakiest dirty moves I've seen on your channel. Most rammers are just goons. This guy shakes your hand (moving over) while reaching around to stab you in the back.

This type of behavior plagues every racing game... I remember being hooked on Racedriver GRID. When I played against good players, we had fun. Real fun, and I almost always got podiums. 99% of the time, though... the "rating" system is half the way only. The other half is stopping them from playing online. Something like a soft system ban. Let them access all features but the multiplayer.

Just started playing this game myself and getting pretty disillusioned quickly with the last lap barging that frequently happens to me. Setting some decent times but being pushed in to the sand regularly just like your last lap in the video with the megane
I played an online race (my SR is 99) on the 18.82 mile oval and there was a 7-car crash on the first straight in an 11 car field and it was almost 8 if the hit I took actually spun me. I have no clue how people mess this up.

The orange SR from being tapped by people who can’t judge slipstream means even if you don’t get pens your SR goes down because it’s 4 laps. Even if you have a clean race you get max 8 SR up so this system is literally pointless that’s why I’m not bothered with this game anymore. All they care about is FIA tours with a bunch of nerds. No one else matters
This is why Race C is your best bet if you want to improve your SR. It's very easy to maintain and build up your SR in C because of the extended length of the races. The field gets very sparse after the first 4-5 laps and so if you want to stay out of trouble, it's quite easy to do so.

You're absolutely bang on. This is why I gave up playing online Steve. Both you and Tigney hit the nail right on the head with this. Too many idiots spoiling it for fair racing.
Been hovering around b/a sr for a while. It just doesn't work. Some races go OK but mostly people go for moves that are not there, force stuff through or just straight push you off. Puts me right off playing.
A good system would be to implement some type of "submit review" button and it'll allow you to select a person/s in the race who you think should be up for review. A human person would then review that footage and decide on appropriate action. Or hell, do what CS:GO does and allow the community to review flagged races and let them vote on who is in the wrong and what type of punishment is necessary. For example, in the race with the Veteran, I'd vote him in the wrong and mark him down for a 5 day game suspension meaning he will not be able to play for 5 days. After 24+ hours, if enough people have voted on a punishment, that punishment will go into effect. If not enough people voted on it, a human employed by the devs will then review it and decide on a punishment.
You could also reward people for their reviewing with in-game credits or some type of reward that makes them want to participate in making the community a better place.
Dumb question, but are you running the roof/hood cam when racing? The lack of rear view mirrors on this view you can't see where they are coming from behind, or if you have cleared them. A few times it looks like you ran them off the track.

If you're not matched against people with an SR on the top of S rating, it reminds me of Forza.
not that I'm any good, but I stopped playing Forza because I don't want to play THAT kind of player vs. player game, I just want to race without having to treat each car near me as a trap/homing missile
@@huffadopolis ironically that has moved to horizon 4, M7 has been pretty damn good to race in now and with watching jsr Devon beta test the penalty system they have coming it's looking even more promising

I'm really new to gt sport. People in the few races I've played online definitely don't mind bumping into you. I haven't qualified toward the front yet though. Does anyone have tips for getting better? I'm pretty bad with manuel transmission but forcing myself to use it. Not sure if it's optional in online tbh. Also what's the best camera angle?
I’d say best camera angle is the one on the roof of the car, gives you a good view of what’s ahead and the front of your car to be more precise. If you want to get out of the ramming sessions just take it easy and drive as contact free as possible without worrying about position so you can get your sportsmanship rating up and then your less likely to get bad rammers.
I've been playing GT since PS1. I would chill with my memory card in my pocket how serious me & my friends would play GT back then. We played no dirty moves. Contact sure but if the contact drove the other car off the track you owe me $5 that's how we played 😂 2020 i race the same way clean racing but not everyone is like that so 👍 of course no one wants to pay $5 so it forced us to play clean.

Yep. Just moved to C from D but sportsmanship dropped from S to B due to other drivers raming me off the track or into other drivers. Of course I'm not faultless but drove a race last night and literally it was bumper cars and impossible to avoid contact. It's so incredibly hard to move up but you just have to stick with it. No option.
in b sr tier races i've consistently had people just run me off the track even when im right beside them or just ahead of them. im doing my best to avoid contact but in the lower sr lobbies, overtaking is nearly impossible without your opponents retaliating

How do you decline a penalty, especially if it is unfair? Is there a way to do that?
Honestly this is why I don’t like playing any game online. I can never trust that I’ll have a fun experience. And even if I have fun it’s all temporary. With SP games you can enjoy a fair and well balanced game and you can enjoy the story and experience as many times as you want. In the old days playing multiplayer was fun because your friends knew that playing dirty would bug the hell out of everyone and it just wasn’t tolerated. But online there’s just nothing you can do about and strangers can be dirtbags.

Don't slam on the accelerator. Gradually push it down.
So glad I watched this, I have a B SR rating at the moment and sometimes you get a good clean race but if you get involved with some dickhead and it drops to a C rating it's a total shit show. I'm going to finish last and avoid everyone until I'm S and hopefully it's a better experience.
it is nowhere near better with an S rating. Its all about the DR. once you get above a B it gets better but you better be fast to get a B. its tough to get that high. I"m D/S won 2 manufacture's race today and didn't budge. I'm about to give up on this game unless the new update has some drastic changes.

I'm prettt new to racing gt sport online. Incant understand the penalty system at all. I climb a couple of spots on first lap in a race, then I get rammed from behind, end up outside the track and takes me ages to get back. How do i recover after something like that? The others didn't even seem to get a penalty. Even if they'd get a few sec it doesn't help me from 30 sec behind.
I've also noticed that when someone hits me feom behind, in the one getting penalty!
Btw is there a way to recover the car quickly?
