    Is this scooter really the best budget commuter scooter out there? Does a cheap purchase price with low running costs pack more of a punch than the high-tech electric rivals!

    It has a nice chunky look about it. With current battery limits, I think combustion scooters and mopeds will be around for a long time unless something dramatically changes. It’s good to see the established brands making an effort to stay competitive in this particular segment rather than pulling out and trying to just sell top end premium vehicles like a lot of the car manufacturers seem to be doing…

    Can you do a real world fuel comparison between this and the suzuki address.

    The problem with all the electric scooters is the charging speed, no reason why they cant charge in an hour or two, its just that they just have crappy chargers fitted. A 4 kWh battery is about 400 bucks these days, so battery cost isnt really a factor. I did a lot of commuting on scooters but the drive belt and engine servicing (small motors need a lot of oil changes) really put me off them in the end. Fun for blasting around town, but for anything about 5k a year petrol scooters are a pain in the arse.

    Honda cb125f is so fuel efficient it must be cheaper than an electric motorcycle over its life span.

    The biggest draw for EV's, both cars and motorcycles, is the acceleration. That's it. The whole charging, poor infrastructure, initial high price, the price of replacement batteries long term, the 2nd hand prices, resale value and of course what happens to the car/bike in 10 years? Will it still be a viable form of transport or will it be in the scrap yard? If you want to be "green", EV's aren't green at all in the overall long term life of the vehicle. The only reason people are buying them is the initial cool factor and that "Omg! How fast is this! 0-60 secs". Personally, I'm more intelligent to see further than that.

    I've test ridden the same scooter albeit the base model with the analog console. I don't if its with the India model, but I felt the built quality was subpar. The plastics felt thin and the console looked low effort, something I didn't expect from yamaha. We already own two generations of the honda dio and was looking at a third vehicle. Coming from that even though it is slightly faster, the ray felt even tinier with the shorter handle and the compact shape and the design, lete say overdone

    Best cheap is QJ Motors ATR 125 Hybrid, combine the good of the 2 world, fuel consumption is almost unexisting, over 50 km/l (sorry i'm from italy) plus electric motor assit until 90 km/h, giving a surplus power when starting, cost me around 3000 euros with TCS, rear and front ABS spoke wheel TFT screen with smartphone mirroring. This one is junk compared to sorry about

    Yamaha claim electric assist when moving off - did you notice this?

    • @interestsavvy6813
      @interestsavvy6813 7 часов назад

      That assist usually comes on when you need more power, typically on an uphill or more strenuous acceleration.

    Why is it acceptable that the scooters can only have such underpowered engines it's dangerous. 15 break horsepower can go a lot faster keeping up with the flow of traffic is essential for safety bloody nanny state 🤔

    • @GodspeedChris
      @GodspeedChris День назад +1

      Not dangerous at all. I would suggest that someone on an overpowered bike is more dangerous than underpowered.

      It's an unfortunate interplay between the ever more stringent emissions regulations and our broken licensing system. Only 125s sell in volume because of the engine limitation on CBT/A1, but it's now really difficult to get anything like 14hp from a 125cc engine while still being Euro5/5+ compliant. The cheap way around this is to drop the engine down to 7/8hp.
      The 125cc limit was put in place when it was quite possible to get 20hp from a 125 engine, but those days are long gone and the limit hasn't been raised to compensate. And, yes, I agree it's dangerous. Traffic is faster now, cars are bigger, driving standards are lower, but scooter riders have less power to get out of unsafe situations.

      @@drramtop1576I rarely feel like I don’t have enough power to get out of situations. I ride a PCX125 and an Innova 125, both about 10hp and I’m just returning from my 8th trip from Bristol to Europe in 4 years clocking over 18,000 miles riding in Europe.
      I’ve been on the autobahns in Germany, ridden to Budapest and Finland and never needed more power to get out of tricky situations because you ride and anticipate for what you’re on.
      My bikes/scooters will get me off the lights faster than most cars, I can avoid heavy traffic by filtering and on the rural European roads the limit is mainly 50mph (80mph) so you don’t need much more than that.
      Conversely I’ve seen riders with overpowered bikes drop them on the Stelvio pass cause they’re too weighty, get stuck between bollards because they’re too wide, and run off the road cause they’re carrying too much speed.
      At the end of the day it’s not the bike it’s the rider 👍

      I think you're ok with this I've owned several similar hp scoots over the years. 50cc though is another story
