Being outside of EU rule and having the ability to make our own laws that suit us would make us extremely attractive to other countries. We could tailor our own rules to suit Britain's interests instead of European interests and that is very very good for business.
The point was the actual trade value isn't going to the UK, it's just being recorded there due to it being held there temporarily. And as gold is worth so much on its own this little economic quirk actually creates a huge distortion in the UK's trade figures.
