I tend to agree with an argument that recognizes Randy Bachman as Canada's greatest Musician. (At least among those that are internationally known. Let's face it the country's truly best musician is probably a studio player we've never heard of. Record sales and fame don't really tell the whole story) A musician to my mind vs Rock Star is someone who reaches and attains more than just record sales. Randy clearly does Rock, Blues, Country and some Jazz as we see here. It's not a rap on Rush (I happen to believe Rush is amazing too) or it's three high profile players to put Randy above 'em as a musician. Randy just did more different styles and did 'em well.
