But they just happened to not have enough time to make it good.
Reminder that after this dumpster fire Hideaki Itsuno didn't want to be remembered as "the guy who made DMC2" so instead of disappearing he just made DMC3 the coolest shit ever out of sheer force of will.
Actually, you might want to edit in that Hideaki Itsuno wasn't really the director of DMC2. He was only brought on board at the tail end of development (4 months left) to try to fix it. But can't really do much at that point. This was stated in the 3142 art book interview. He was surprised to see that he was credited as the director despite all that, and thus where the "didn't want to be known as the dmc2 guy..." quote came from. Just letting you know since not a lot of people know that.
When I speak to older friends (and my brother) about DMC, they always say this was an amazing game, and no one said it was sh1t. No one read reviews or others opinions online because it was hard to use internet at that time, so they just asked friends when they could. Maybe those who played this game then understood more what it innovated because it could only be compared to DMC1 and other games of that time. All those (unlisted) combos with the sword which culminated in shotgun attacks, or the wall-walk, the usage of guns pointed in different directions, or the fact you feel a lot free with movements, these things were novelties for action games. And Dante's outfits were incredible. You had also 3 characters to use and, despite the lack of depth in gameplay, people loved extras for the sake of it. Not saying this game being good, but that the perception people had of this game was different due to a lot of factors.
Okay. Im calling bullshit lol The game still sucks. People called this game out for being shit back then too. Buddy, you and your friends had a good time, and that’s good. Nobody else did. Good on ya.
@@BriefDark I literally wrote: "not saying this game being good". I just said a lot of this game's mechanics are actually part of the sequels we liked, and for this reason perception can change from person to person despite it being a bad game. Read better next time.
@@brando_duurie Most of what you pointed out is bull crap. Don’t even try. For example. Unlisted combos. Combos were also in the first game. The 2nd completely ruined the combo system, by making you flick the analog sticks, as well as time your presses. And having them be unlisted makes that even worse. You’re most likely just going to be doing the same 4 hit combo the entire game. But, I guess it’s subjective. But seeing as the games went back to DMC1s style of combat for the rest of the series…Yeah…That’s a moot point.. The wall run, I’ll give you. It’s a really cool, and good addition. Having guns point in different directions? What? Dude, that’s just auto aim. The guns pointing is just for visual. Literally all of these games have it. A lot of free movements…yeah, because these stages are literally fucking empty. Act like you don’t have plenty of room to move around in the others. That’s not a plus. The extra characters, I guess. If you want to be technical, there were different costume options in 1. But, to your credit, Dante and Lucia have different movesets. Congratulations. Have a cookie. 🍪 Later.
Most won’t say it, but DMC2 had elements in its gameplay that laid the groundwork for future elements of games afterwards (gunslinger style, sin devil trigger, etc).

The cutscenes had yet to be shot. They hadn't decided what to do about Dante's Devil Trigger yet. They only made the Stinger attack but none of the other attacks had been worked on at all. I feel like standing there actually makes this game easier. Like those wolves that keep missing, if you move around trying to dodge them they're way more likely to hit you. Seems like most enemies/bosses in general are like that in DMC2.
I actually love this game. DMD mode was challenging especially on bosses like trismagia. Dante had an ultimate demon form for the first time if you transformed while having red health and it was the coolest thing ever. It also had 2 ultimate attacks one dark/light explosion and a continuous dark/light beam. 4 wings and laser swords and stuff! Pretty cool actually. It also had the most difficult bloody palace mode, it would get you to a room with 3 or 4 bosses at the the same time with DT!!! That is veeeeeery hard. The gameplay was kinda slow sadly... Also i loved the SMG weapons. The worst thing about this game it's that it doesn't have infinite DT even after clearing everything.
Honestly DMD is way too easy, compared to DMC 1. Item prices do not go up, and the bosses do pitiful damage. You can still cheese the game by running past enemies and using shotgun/launcher.

Exactly. That's why I liked it. My guns actually felt effective in this game.
I think we just discovered what a Pacifist DMC run looks like.
I don't think shooting your enemy into oblivion while standing there unfazed with enemy attack count as pacifists....
The fact that the game ends on a Gunshot 💀
Reminder that after this dumpster fire Hideaki Itsuno didn't want to be remembered as "the guy who made DMC2" so instead of disappearing he just made DMC3 the coolest shit ever out of sheer force of will.
Love your channel
Thanks wikipedia I never knew that. What's next, You gonna tell us Mario 2 in the US was originally Doki Doki panic in Japan.
He was motivated.

The best comment so far about this vid, true.
Also, reviews were positive at the time. Consensus was that DMC1 was a 9 and 2 was a solid 7.5

Devil May Cry 2: Dante goes for a walk
A not very enthusiastic one.
Most won’t say it, but DMC2 had elements in its gameplay that laid the groundwork for future elements of games afterwards (gunslinger style, sin devil trigger, etc).

its actually like 4 hours long, yeah everybody loves the meme of just using your guns but if you use your sword you can kill the bosses rather quickly, what sucks ass is that there are certain bosses that attack way to fast and dante attacks really slow with his sword so you are forced to shoot them but thats only like 3 bosses, the rest of the bosses can be killed with your sword.
this isnt me deffending the game though, it does indeed suck balls

REMINDER: Hideaki Itsuno was brought onto the game with only 4 months left of development time because NOTHING was getting done and that needed to change.
The scenario hadn't been written.
The cutscenes had yet to be shot.
They hadn't decided what to do about Dante's Devil Trigger yet.
They only made the Stinger attack but none of the other attacks had been worked on at all.
Its nothing short of a damn miracle this game came out at all.
Itsuno essentially made this entire thing out of literal broken scraps in just 4 short months. This complete failure of a game is not at all his fault. IT WAS his motivation for mating Devil May Cry 3 however. He drove straight in with a "Lets do this right." attitude. He did not want to be remembered as "The guy who made Devil May Cry 2."
The issue here is that this channel is devoted to nothing but blind distaste without due diligence.
@@ChipJones421 What diligence? the game is terrible and the whole "He did not want to be remembered as "The guy who made Devil May Cry 2" narrative is made up by people who know shit what they are talking about.
@@zoroken2946 idk, at least in hd collection on pc prices do go up to the cost cap and then stay there, like any other dmc game
