- I wanted to pay tribute to my filipino roots so i sample from filipino records here & there. this one's more grimey with an underground feel so it's jansport ready..LOL. an emcee i used to work with used to say i was like a filipino premo so he used to always call me filipremo. salute to my Better Beat bredren Antagonist for lacing me with the sample! i've been diggin' for filipino records for a hot minute so to all my pinoys, if your mom or pops got any, tell auntie or uncle to get at me! haha!

a decade later and I'm still playing this
at first, i learned the basics in a couple months on and off. i was frustrated too, just like everyone else. lol! then i just kept getting better and better, learning new tricks over the years. 12 years to be exact. but i perfected the way i wanted to execute comfortably within the first few years. the key is always to challenge youself. the MPC is limited by today's standards so there will be workarounds to get the sound you want. you might take a few extra steps, but it's worth it in the end.

s'all good homie. i do all my basslines on the mpc. i got like 3 different bass sounds that i use, but i got one main one that i use for most of my beats. i sample everything in for the most part. you can sample any note from keyboards or vst's into the mpc and map them out on the pads using 16 levels button. change the velocity to note variation and voila! look up "disko dave brings his mpc over pt. 1" and i go into little detail how i do basslines.

@polidosk8 are you talking about saving beats or recording beats to your computer? i used to save beats on floppies, but just finally upgraded to zip disks..lol. i'm behind the times, but it still gets the job done. for transferring and recording i use pro tools. the mpc IS a sampler so you record(sample) everything into the mp and choose which way you want to save it.

Damn Dave! Where you been at homie? Your videos and beats had been an enormous help in helping me overcome those frustrating stages after finally picking up a 2000xl and realizing just how huge of a learning curve I had to work past in order just to be able to navigate its interface, let alone how to sample, chop, layer, learn timing, develop an ear for arrangements and how to create sonically pleasing music in general.
Whenever I’d get stuck feeling like I just couldn’t get my drums to hit right, or my sound was coming together flat, I always came to your channel for inspiration and left reinvigorated.
I truly hope your still in the game, healthy and doing well for yourself!

@freklez They cut each other off. you have to use the mute-off function in the paramaters screen. Each pad can mute off 2 different pads on the 2000 & 2000xl.

cant tell for Dave, but ive been on the 2000 Classic for a year now, and im refering to my manual at least 3 times a week and i still feel like i got some more to learn from it

@swoppaful nah, i did everything on the mpc, but i sampled that little bell sound off my keyboard and put it in the 16 levels. i think it sounds fatter on my camera because of the built in mic. i put the mic level high and it picks up a lot of the low end. plus it's placed right in front of some subwoofers with the music blasting. as far as the mp3, i don't adjust the volume on my program and usually don't track out and mix beats (on purpose) when i put music on the internet...

@ oOCeeTVOo..i use pro tools. i got an old mbox and use an m-audio midisport uno to sync. but i rarely track out beats unless i'm working on a project. everything i put out on the internet is mostly 2 tracked. i try to get a decent enough mix in the mpc so i don't have to do too much when i track em.

@9Bamba5 nah, just used the mpc. the little flute-ish/bell sound is from a roland xp-30, but i just sampled the note on the mp and ran it through the 16 levels.
