Excellent video Ryan! But any competent mechanic or tire center can do the basics that your car needs. You can buy the parts from the service center or online you can find cabin filters. I’ve changed the cabin filter myself and you can to, although you are much younger and it’s not going to hurt your back. Tesla’s website even shows how to do it. The AC has a desiccant bag that eventually needs to be changed and I would guess that an AC mechanic could replace it. I’ve never seen any instructions. Your Tesla has Brembo brakes and any shop can test or flush the fluid.

For those people not in Australia and live where it snows and they salt 🧂 the roads, the brake pads need inspecting and greasing with special grease before every winter. I don’t know if people actually have that done, years of barely using the friction brakes and lots of salt can rust out the metal backs of the pads. Again I have no firsthand experience because I live on the Pacific coast

First service is finaly coming up in about 2 months :) rotation and wheel alignment $265 bucks.
Drove my tesla model 3 for two years and did no maintenance. Car drives fine and there is really nothing to do on the vehicle.
Mechanics are charging on average $140 per hour, and in most cases apprentices are doing the work for $25 per hour.
You can't get a ICE vehicle in for a service within two weeks, parts prices are ridiculous high, and in short supply and also poor quality because there made in China.
I'd rather have a Tesla, l can rotate my own tyres and replace cabin air filters and clean them myself.
I can also replace brake components, suspension parts like shockers, light bulbs, etc.
If you can't, then learn how.
I could not get my Kia in for a service in Brisbane for 2months and 1week.
Taking collection of my first EV next Saturday, M3 Highland after spending 8 hours carpooling in one.
I was a Tesla and EV hater. I had all my questions lined up and ready to tear shreds into the ongoing costs vs an ICE car.
"So how much higher is your power bill now?"
"Umm... About 1/4 of my monthly petrol bill"
"Okay then... How much do services cost and how often do you have to do them?"
"Service? Ehhh... Maybe about $200 once every 2 years?"
Hearing this, right after picking up my Subie Forester from a service where I had just dropped $600.... It cut me deep.
Then I started the Novated Lease enquiries and here I am... Anyone wanna buy a Forester? HAHAHAHAHAHA

I've only had my M3 SR+ for 3 months but have already covered 18000km. Everything is working faultlessly, and so it just seems way to soon to be considering any sort of service.
If I were to rotate the tyres at 10000km intervals I'd have to make a booking every 6 weeks!

I've brought my tesla model 3 two times in like 4 years, spending only $150cad. They have given me an Uber voucher of up to $150cad both times. Personally, I haven't had any issues with my car besides a couple of other drivers bumping into it. Their insurance have covered the damage. So far, Tesla service has been excellent. Both ppointments were with a week.

Coming up on 3 years of ownership of 2019 M3, 37k miles. Replaced the cabin filters myself and had the local tire store replace 4 tires. Other than that, no additional services. Very hesitant to take the car to a Tesla service center as they had my 2021 MY for about a month to fix some delivery damage. So yes, avoid Tesla service if you can unless it is their mobile service.
but is that voiding warranty changing it yourself ??

My brother is a shop foreman at Honda/Acura they have already been servicing Tesla's and Chevrolet Motors have been contracted too service Tesla's, it's no secret. I am a Diesel Mechanic and I have done a EV battery fuse replacement...too me the EV is not rocket science. But if you already had trouble understanding the physics/science involved in a petrol motor....I can see how EV will seem more complicated. I build electric go karts in the 1990's for fun, Too me EV was a simple basic setup. But no car marker is going make money in simple electric car😉
I’m curious if you know how much Tesla relies on petroleum for parts? Some parts, like tires are fairly obvious, but I’m would imagine nearly 100% of Tesla parts are either petroleum based or rely petroleum to be manufactured? I just don’t get the hype around EV’s. At best they’re virtue signaling, but in reality they enhance the need for fossil fuels!

The issue with service needed, only when an issue is identified, is most likely such a repair is going to be much more expensive, without any preventative maintenance. If you an informed consumer, will already know, that Tesla has the same fluids, except the engine oil, such as coolant, refridgerant, wiper, hydraulic brake,gear oil. It even has a rubber belt on steering motor🤔. One difference is the longer flush interval, minimal wear on brakes etc. The brake fluid undergoes lesser temperature rise, as well as fixed gear transmission oil. But eventually any motor oil will degrade, coolant will leak. Also, the coolant can be viewed as the new engine oil, since it could be catastropic, if a burst in coolant lines is not remedied shortly. Battery pack is the new engine, and its serviceability comparitively is zero(esp. With newer 4680 structural battery packs). If anything prematurely fails with battery pack, it will be a big ticket service item, beyond 100K warranty. So, Teslas are not maintenance exempt, just can tolerate more lax service schedule, until warranty expires at 120K. Just some 💭
3:11 yup, started with poor services. Recent one is good, odd though I send them video of issue and the person straight away told me when I reached there that the issue could be with aftermarket hub caps and that it was , then why did they book me in? Could have told me on phone to try remove hubcap to check if noise still occurs.
Most Tesla owners think they are car experts but most of them are clueless. None of them ever mention WHEEL BEARINGS.
Tesla mechanics charge up to $:320/hr (Australian), which is absolutely absurd, this information was supplied to me by members of the Tesla owners group on Facebook.

Just ran out of battery had to wait on tow $175 cheapest tgen had to buy a jumpstarter just to jump to get it to charge at the supercharger …. Not enough chargers and teslas do not go the mile range they claim …battery runs out quick . This is a car for someone who stays close to home

Always Nice to har good. However i waited 4 month for front windshield for model 3. Was lucky to find a parralel import. However in Europe or cars has to be Tuv approved every second year. My advise are take your Tesla to a professional mechanic 6 month before as you do not know how many month you have to wait for parts.
Tesla low maintenance cost or is it?
My story of owning a 2019 M3 LR bought a year ago.
- cabin filter replacement £60(80$) every 2 years or when it starts to smell due to wet weather conditions and tesla design flow of the system
- braking fluid check £30-50 every 2 years
BIG ONEs now:
- tyre rotation every 6k miles £40 per rotation £120 every 2 years
- 4 wheel alignment every 2 years £350 ( 450$) 😮
- break system lublication service in areas with winter gritting £200-250 (250-300$)
Coolant replacement after 8 years or 80k miles £200-250
Motor oil change after £150-200 8years/80k miles (optional)
Therefore I budget £1900 worth of servicing for the next 4 years.
You also need to budget £500-800 for any bushings replacements.
In 80k you will go over 3 sets of tires for £2.5k
This is based on tesla london UK service costs.
With a £5000 running and maintenance costs from year 3 to year 8 -
This is NOT a low service maintenance vehicle as you can see.
I've had brilliant dealings with my service center which is something I can't say about every other ICE car center I've ever had to deal with as a female!

80 dollar is only for the wheel rotation though, the wheel alignment is another 200.
What nonsense- I have 50,000 miles on my model 3 snd have pig 1 gallon of washer fluid and one set of tires at 28,000 miles on it. NOTHING ELSE. I have never had that experience with BMW, Porsche of Mercedes. Remarkable. 👍👍😊

I’m an Uber driver and Tesla is the way to go. I use to spend 20,000 a year on gas now I only spend about 5,000 in charging.
🤔All I’ve known are combustion engines and these Tesla’s are mind blowing. The amount of money I’m throwing into a used car is insane, non-stop money pit🤷🏾♂️

Yes, Tesla customer service is a SERIOUS downgrade from Audi. Let me say this again - Tesla CS in Los Angeles is a bit like going to Toyota (I imagine). However, after watching this video, I don’t expect to need to go often. There was a dead pixel on my screen when I first got the car so I made an appointment to have it replaced (luckily, it was replaced). They didn’t have loaner cars so I was given $100 in Uber credit per day. After like the 3rd or 4th (or 5th?? I can’t remember but it seemed like forever) day however, taking Uber gets old! Messaging the CS rep assigned to my car via the app was amazing though!
My Audi in Brisbane is woeful and I rarely leave there without a $2,000 plus bill. Tesla couldn’t be as bad as Audi here.

My brand new (1 week old) 2022 model 3 RWD completely shutdown tonight and left my family stranded in Highpoint shopping centre. I have to leave the car there as Tesla roadside assistance people (in the US) could not arrange a tow truck as I was in under cover car park with 2.3m clearance. Need to call back tomorrow but not holding any hope due to weekend. Hope the car is not vandalised tonight.

@@RyanCowan I am happy to say that after getting no help from Tesla roadside assistance, I have "fixed" my M3 after researching and watch youtube videos. For whatever reason the main computer think that the electrical system power was reduced and shut down the car and everything. So I had no access to the car, key card didn't work and the car is just like a brick. so I left the car there, went home and RTFM and watched RUclips. After thinking that even if I get the car towed to the Service Centre how the technician can get in? There must be a way for them to open the car. it turns out that yes - there is a way to open the frunk and "jump start" the M3 by opening up the tow eye cover and connecting external 12v power source to the 2 wires hanging out from the the tow eye opening. As soon as I did that the frunk opened and the car spring to live. Head lights on, screen on, and most importantly I can put it on Drive/Reverse. I drove home without any issue and the rest is history. Hope that it won't happen again during the week when we drive it. I got an appointment booked for the Service Centre to look at the alerts on the Tesla app though. Sorry for the long comment but I think it would be good for all OZ Tesla owners to know how to reboot their car when something like this happens. :-)

Excellent video Ryan! Driving my first EV Tesla M3H, 6K on the clock, should I request a Service Check for Rotation, etc at 10K ? Unfortunately, they don't seem to tell you therefore at a loss.
Thanks mate and congrats on the new 3 (such a beautiful car!) .. I wouldn't bother about booking in 10k service check unless you feel compelled to do so. It seems from my experience they have stopped encouraging it due to it not being needed. We took our Model Y in for 10k service and everything was fine, nothing needed to be done.
80 for a tire rotation is crazy....
So that means 10K KILOMETERS IA ROUGHLY a little over 6K miles. Avg person drives 14,263 miles a year in the US. So if the service that he suggests is every 10M KILOMETERS AT 80$, that's roughly 160 a year for that maintainance.
lol we 'had to' service our Mazda every year and cost $600+ ! Tesla don't request any service, only recommendations if you want to bring your car in.
I have been considering a model 3 but an alignment after only 12 months? Those are all new suspension parts and should hold alignment well.

The cheapest EV in Australia right now costs over $320 a year to service ( MG ZS EV).
Tesla really are way ahead of legacy auto.

When we did our first drive of the Model 3 in Melbourne they just said, " yeah the car will tell you if it needs a service"

My problem with the service center in Texas is that there is no loaner cars. I do not like being driven around (Uber) by someone who breaks the speed limit and disregard for my safety.

I just priced a service for a 2009 Ford focus diesel.
$480 from thr Ford dealer, and $350 at the local garage.
I do it myself for cost of oils and filters for less then half the local garage charge.
I scheduled my first service haven't even gone to the play and the app says 356 buck because i said the door out of alignment and there is a rattle. soooooo wtf? Charging me for a warranty issue?

When should one replace the battery coolant? I have. 2019 M3D no issues at all but the coolant will degrade I believe after so many years. Can someone advise ?

If you go with tesla depending on the model and size 12k-20k or if you go 3rd party such as Recell EV if you're in the US they will do the swap and disposal for their sticker price which is 7-9k and have a warranty
Tesla’s are quite sensitive in their suspension, regular alignments are a good investment. Don’t bother going to a Tesla service center, their service is &@%# and they do a bad job on repairs, they don’t test drive your car afterwards even. Working quick is everything there, even if the repair is bad. Another RUclipsr called AT-Zimmermann can tell you all about it. Find a good local garage who has had their mechanics trained and with the proper certificates for working on EV’s. I realize that this video is two years old, but Tesla hasn’t changed in their service department in those years.

Seeing this was ok, I was expecting it to be a minimal maintenance anyway, but my biggest fear came from your trip video. Range anxiety is very very real! Plus if you live in a Unit/Apartment where there’s no power outlets, not even going back home would help you charge!
BTW how would you own one of these if you can’t charge it at home?
Hey mate, thanks for the comment. We know a few people that live in apartments and dont have access to a charger. Just like going to the petrol station, they drive to a supercharger or a free charger (much slower) once every 2 weeks or so. It hasn't been an issue for them. But I agree, charging at home is definitely the best option.
Since recording that first solo trip video, my range anxiety has completely gone! We've had no issues since then. It just took me a while to understand how it works and that we can use all the third party chargers as well (not just Tesla).
Dont buy the Tesla car.
For me, these repair cost savings is significantly greater than the fuel savings when compared to my old petrol car and my old car got 15-20mpg (18.93-25.36 liters per 100km). It was terribly inefficient, but even more so unreliable.
What car did you have? My si takes premium gets 30 mpg avg. on the highway I can do 40-50 mpg
My wife Camry gets 25 mpg Avg and 32 on the highway.

I would highly recommend steering clear of a Tesla. The product is great, but after purchase customer support is horrible.
Check out your local better business bureau and it’s more than likely a F or they don’t participate in the BBB. I had to wait 2 weeks for a leaky 12v battery to come in. When I addressed the issue was told over a dozen, I mean literally a dozen that it was being escalated.
We have 2 Teslas in our family and I will never purchase a car where you have to do everything through an app and can’t go and buy over the counter parts like a BATTERY.
Back to Honda and Toyota.
Musk instead of trying to solve the world’s issues by going to space , how about you solve issues the common people have.

how is the time insignificant if you have to wait for appointment, supplies and services. it is terrifying that you cannot go anywhere else to repair your Tesla, it is like you are stuck with them. i don't like be in that spot after paying so much money.

@@samjam6989 there is a battery coolant. lot of ppl replace coolant cos of crack due to bump, small rock etc. car's underneath, coolant line is weak apparently.

The idea that an EV doesn’t require regular maintenance is absurd. First of all, Teslas aren’t made very well and secondly they’re relying on their customers to know when their car needs service. The correct answer is to take the vehicle in for a maintenance inspection every 6two months/8,000 miles. The suspension, braking system components and wheel alignment MUST be inspected to keep the vehicle working at peak efficiency/performance and safety. Also that $25,000 drive battery needs to be inspected at least 1x per year for load balancing, etc. Tesla is being grossly irresponsible for saying this. I predict most of these vehicles will be in the jink yard in 5 years. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about - and apparently neither does Tesla.
FOr example, with regenerative braking some drivers can go weeks without using their hydraulic brakes. And what does this lead to? Corrosion, especially in cold weather areas where salt is applied to the roads. This is a serious safety issue that Tesla on addresses - and not in any detail - on their own website.

EVs are overpriced cars for short distance driving only. You have to drive them 60K or more miles before they truly become net-zero. The batteries lose efficiency and thus range in cold weather, and of course they'll eventually need to be replaced. I love my 2012 Camry, it'll last me at least another 10 years.
Thanks for the comment. Price of batteries and therefore EV's will continue to trend down. Doing the numbers on a 10 year horizon with Toyota Camry a few years ago, we found the Tesla became cheaper for us after about 7years, which is insane considering it's so much more upfront (and a much better car). Tesla LFP battery should last 500,000kms. A Tesla is roughly 4x more efficient than a comparable ICE.
My friend had his battery in his Tesla Model S replaced after 7.5 years at $0 cost to him. Try that in a Toyota Camry.

That will improve with time because those are repairs that Tesla can update vs maintenance which is constant. So yes you are correct that some teslas unfortunately have TEMPORARY teething problems which results in repairs but you are incorrect if you think they have more maintenance.

@@RyanCowanwith about 80% of teslas delivered in the last three years ( most of these would not have changed ) , there is not much retention activity yet . Teslas retention rate is based on very low volume and won’t be comparable with other makes until a few years .
