  • If you have shorter or finer hair that cannot be put into a bun, you can still use Goody Spin Pins. Let me show you how.

It's ABOUT TIME someone helped us thin-haired creatures use these spin pins! Excellent video and what a gift you have explaining everything step by step. I hope you keep making videos....

Just found your video - it only took me 12 years! Your tutorial was very helpful, but what really caught my attention was your ability to explain without a lot of wasted chitchat. I can't remember the last time I heard someone casually use the term 'double helix'!

Very informative!! I'm a 63 y.o. Grandma and my daughter just recently told me about these corkscrew shaped pins. Your video really helped me know how to use the pins I just ordered once they arrive. Thank you!
Your perm is really pretty and natural looking, and you are lovely! Good work

You do great work Robyn (not just with hair) but you actually explain things really well and you speak so fluently and your words just flow. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to watch a tutorial and the person is yammering on like an idiot about things you just dont care about and then they hum and hah .. like you know what youre talking about and watching your video was a pleasure! Your perm is great too btw - looks very natural! Thanks!

Thank you so much. As someone who has just longer than shoulder-length, super fine (But tons of it) hair, and who is finally trying to learn to do anything other than a pony tail, I really appreciated all the explanation and actually showing me. I know nothing about doing hair. So... thank you!!

Thanks for the positive thoughts. I'm actually a music teacher, so I try to be clear and process-oriented with everything I do. It's funny to look back on something you made several years ago and see what you would do differently and what you could improve. Professional development! Maybe I'll make some more videos. Cheers!

I wish I had found your video before I had to learn this by "try and cry". I have waist-length, straight hair, and was getting tired of using so many pins and spray to keep my French twist or bun in place, so I devoted a whole day to learn how to use these pins. Turns out, I didn't need all that time, because once you find how to work them into your own hair, it is really easy, and I can do my hair with these pins without the aid of a mirror, and it comes out fine!
What works for me is to twist them EACH pin from the bottom, twisting them up and in, one on each side of my twist or bun. Now, after seeing your video, I'll have to try twisting one from the top and one from the bottom, like you demonstrate!
Like you said, angling them in, from the scalp towards the outside of your twist or bun seems to anchor the hair so securely that I can let go of my hair entirely, while I get the other twist pin, and other decorations, if I am augmenting the style with anything else.
I have even slept with the pins in place (hot night, keeping hair out of my face!) with no damage to my hair or my sleep.
Great, realistic video, showing that the pins are a lot easier to use than the instructions that come with the pins would lead you to believe. Thank you!

Thanks for the video, I bought from Avon similar pins called "Hair Twirl Styler" and they have been sitting in my draw until I saw this video. I watched you do it and then went and got my pins. Yay! it works...okay first attempt is a bit messy, but I feel confident that with practice I will get better. I thought these things were only for people with long hair and I was waiting for my hair to grow longer so I could use them.

@musiclover1111993 - I got a basic perm, but asked that they use larger rollers so it wouldn't turn out poodle-like! :) I also went to a beauty school where it was half price because the stylists are working towards certification. It took longer, but was actually very thorough since they had to have each step of the perm approved by their teachers.

I prefer the HAWWWY brand spin pins for shorter hair. They're not obnoxiously long like the Goody brand ones. They're also a quarter of the price, you get 8 of the hawwwy pins instead of just 3 goody pins for the same price. You can get them on their website but I also get them on amazon becasue of the prime shipping. try the hawwwy brand versions out if you have shorter hair.

Wow. I saw these looking for a different type of clip, wound up on RUclips to see how they go in, and you were the second video I watched. The first girl had this huge, thick mane of hair. And... my hair is just about identical to yours. Albeit, my curl (add a lot of frizz) is natural. I use lots of product to tame the frizz, and I quit using shampoo about a year ago. Conditioner only, once a week. Otherwise, it's a frickin' frizzy mess. Great perm, by the way. I don't know where you live, but I would totally go to your hairdresser, LOL. Excellent job, too! Step-by-step, easy to understand, done with confidence. Yes, nicely done. :)

@musiclover1111993 I'm 90 percent sure you can still straighten, curl, and blow-dry it, but I'd ask before you get it done! I think it's supposed to last longer if you don't do a lot of stuff to it and use less harsh chemicals on it (like shampoo for color-treated hair). Good luck!

The best medium sized spiral bobby pins are by a brand called HAWWWY. They are sold on amazon. They are exactly like Goody but you get 6 more in a pack for half the price! The best part is that they also have rounded tips so they won't scratch your scalp and are great for shorter hair buns! You can find the link at www.hawwwy.com

Just have some gratitude that this person has went to the trouble to provide and share this video (you watched it after all). My sister and I learned a lot from it by the way. What is the price of being a little polite and courteous when giving feedback instead of being so rude.
